ELSBETH Carra Patterson interview

“An Ear for an Ear” – After one of New York’s most sought-after plastic surgeons is found dead, Elsbeth has her eye on the victim’s former boss, Dr. Vanessa Holmes (Gina Gershon), who she believes has motives that are more than skin-deep. Also, Kaya keeps tabs on Elsbeth’s whereabouts as her investigation into Captain Wagner heats up, on ELSBETH, Thursday, April 25 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on-demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*. A plastic surgeon is brutally murdered on the Thursday, April 25 episode of ELSBETH, placing the cops—and Elsbeth (Carrie Preston), who is tagging along as part of the ongoing consent decree—into the wild world of cosmetic enhancement.

“This episode is really funny because it’s a world that’s kind of rich for so many jokes,” Carra Patterson, who plays Officer Kaya Blanke, tells Give Me My Remote. “A lot of the things that we were exploring, a lot of those characters…I think people are gonna really be on the edge of their seats by this week’s journey.”

In the hour, Elsbeth circles Dr. Vanessa Holmes (Gina Gershon), who was the boss of the deceased. “Gina Gershon is amazing and she does such a good job playing Dr. Vanessa,” Patterson gushes. “[Vanessa] and Elsbeth clash in a really fun way…I think it’s a great one.”

Kaya, however, will have a messier problem on her hands: Captain Wagner (Wendell Pierce)—whom Elsbeth is secretly investigating—has realized Elsbeth may be up to something and has asked Kaya, who is often Elsbeth’s de facto partner, to keep an eye on her.

“Kaya has started to develop a friendship with Elsbeth and respects her,” Patterson explains. “I think [Kaya]’s used to how quirky [Elsbeth] is, and she’s like, ‘She can be as quirky as she wants and wear all the loud colors, but she’s smart.’ But the thing that happens in this episode is there’s this seed of distrust that’s planted and she’s stuck in the middle. There are things that make Wagner look a little suspicious, but…she’s really starting to be suspicious of Elsbeth.”

“Kaya is in a really not fun, really, really tough position by the end because she wants to be on the side of what’s right,” she continues. “And that’s really not clear.”

What is clear? ELSBETH will be continuing on—the series was recently renewed for a second season.

“Oh, man. I’m excited,” Patterson says. “You know, these opportunities don’t happen every day. And especially in this industry, you’ve just got to be grateful for the work. And it’s not just work—it’s a great family that we’ve created, a great story, great writing. So I’m just excited to keep it going. We’re all on cloud nine right now.”

ELSBETH, Thursdays, 10/9c, CBS
