Fox Missing the Point - Give Me My Remote : Give Me My Remote

Fox Missing the Point

May 19, 2008 by

I’ve got a major pet peeve with Fox. What’s up with not airing shows online until 8 days after the original broadcast airing? I thought one of the reason for showing the episodes online was that so people could catch up in the event that they missed an episode. No? Ugh. I missed last week’s episode of HOUSE and now I can’t even watch part one online before the conclusion and season finale tonight. So frustrated.

I hate to ask but I’m going to…anyone know where else I can watch it online? Sorry Fox but desperate times call for desperate measures. Found it.

If they want to be dumb like that then they should know that people are going to go and automatically download it the day after it airs. You can get “House” (and anything else) on any of the torrent sites.. I use mininova.org

Hmm. I’ve never used a torrent site and I don’t know if I will. I was hoping there was someone that knew of another site streaming it. Are torrent sites illegal? I’d be the one person that would be get busted.

Where did you find it? I was just looking for it myself at hulu.com but they don’t have it yet either.

BSG also isn’t up the day after anymore. Grr. I’d gotten so dependent on going to hulu and watching it Saturday morning!

I just heard from someone at Fox who told me it had something to do with the new contracts with Fox, NBCUni, etc.

Is this 8-days thing a new policy? I could swear I’ve seen The Simpsons and Family Guy online within a day or two of their broadcast.

Most Fox shows are up within a day of broadcast, but House is a special case. I’m almost certain it’s because they have a deal with NBC Universal to air new episodes on USA at 11 pm Eastern time the Friday of the week after initial airing. They want the largest possible audience for those reruns, so they hold off on putting the episodes online.

It seems to be a pretty universal thing. A bunch of my friends suddenly came across this problem this weekend. And it’s a really, really stupid thing, because now so many people will be going through illegal, or at least ad-revenue-free, channels to get caught up. Idiots.

(Also, this is why I am head-over-heels in love with my DVR.)

I have a suggestion of a site that is not really legal but also doesn’t require any downloading of shows. Its http://www.surfthechannel.com They almost always have shows up the day after. I don’t know if you want to go that route but its a great site especially if you don’t want to watch commercials.
