FBI: Derek Haas

FBI, from Emmy Award winner Dick Wolf and the team behind the “Law & Order” franchise, is a fast-paced drama about the inner workings of the New York office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. These first-class agents, including Special Agent Maggie Bell (Missy Peregrym, pictured), her partner, Special Agent Omar Adom ‘OA’ Zidan (Zeeko Zaki, pictured, center), and Assistant Special Agent in Charge Jubal Valentine (Jeremy Sisto, pictured, left), bring all their talents, intellect and technical expertise to tenaciously investigate cases of tremendous magnitude, including terrorism, organized crime and counterintelligence, in order to keep New York and the country safe. CBS freshman drama FBI underwent multiple showrunner changes last year: series creator Craig Turk exited after the pilot, with PERSON OF INTEREST’s Greg Plageman stepping in; Plageman left in October, with CHICAGO FIRE’s Derek Haas and CHICAGO P.D.’s Rick Eid taking over.

Both men have a long history with Dick Wolf-produced shows—Haas co-created the CHICAGO franchise, while Eid worked on the LAW & ORDER franchise, including a stint as SVU’s showrunner—but the move to co-run FBI was a surprise.

CHICAGO FIRE underwent a number of changes in 2018, a fact that showrunner Derek Haas is all too aware of.

“We got the new time slot on Wednesday nights at 9,” he says. “And then having MED as a lead-in and PD as a lead-out has been just way beyond what anybody’s expectations were. The way our viewers embraced all three being on one night and being ONE CHICAGO. This first half of the season, I’m particularly proud of.”

Comments Off on CHICAGO FIRE: Derek Haas on Finding the Right Way to Say Goodbye to DuShon Brown

CHICAGO FIRE lost one of its own in 2018, when DuShon Brown (who played Connie) passed away in March.

It left the writers with a tough task: Brown had filmed three episodes prior to her death, and there were only a handful left in the season. “I just didn’t want to do something disrespectful [to] her family, [and] our cast and crew had grown close to her,” CHICAGO FIRE executive producer Derek Haas recalled to reporters.
