DEXTER Recap: “About Last Night”

DExter

Oh, has it been an interesting week. I come to you from the final days of a sinus infection, replete with fever and headaches. Also, “Pushing Daisies” and “Dirty Sexy Money” got the axe, breaking my TV heart. But, on the brighter side, my friend Mike found the joy of “The West Wing” for the first time (after badgering from yours truly) and I finally got to see the return of Jack Bauer in “24: Redemption.” Not a wash, certainly, but the week got better as it went on.

Now, on to the review…

Only three episodes left in this season and things are getting intense! We were left at the end of last week with the image of Prado entering Ellen Wolf’s home office with a lecherous look in his eyes…and a frightened look in hers.

Exclusive CHUCK Scoop: Josh Schwartz vs. YOUR Questions

November 24, 2008 by

Despite the top secret intel I gathered while hanging with Chuck, Casey and Sarah last week in the deep undergrounds of the Orange Orange (more on my CHUCK set visit soon), there is only one man that holds the answers to some of your top CHUCK questions.  I had big plans of torturing CHUCK creator Josh Schwartz for answers while I was on set, but alas our paths didn’t cross.  But that didn’t stop me from tracking down Schwartz and demanding answers for some of your more pressing questions.

(I tried to go for bad ass.  Did it work?  Schwartz was more than happy to answer my questions and no torturing was required. But I could break him if I needed to…know that.)

Here are just a few answers to some of your top CHUCK (Mondays at 8pm on NBC) inquiries.

The Chuck Soundtrack

Like other Josh Schwartz shows including THE O.C. and GOSSIP GIRL, CHUCK offers up some killer music on a weekly basis.  But what are the chances that we’ll be seeing a CHUCK soundtrack in stores soon?  Not that likely, sadly. Says Schwartz, “Right now there are no plans for a CHUCK soundtrack.  I LOVE the music on the show, and spend a TON of time on it, and love that we get to mix in the old (Huey Lewis, Europe) with the new (Blitzen Trapper, Frightened Rabbit, Bon Iver) but the kinds of shows that get soundtracks these days tend to be those like… Gossip Girl (pick up OMFGG in stores now! Kidding…)” – [or not, buy “OMFGG” right now here or download it from iTunes.]

THE AMAZING RACE: Dan Can’t March

November 24, 2008 by

Since last night’s episode of THE AMAZING RACE was a non-elimination leg, there’s not much to speak of. But am I compelled to share with everyone the clip of Dan of Team Superbad trying to march alongside the Russian Army in one of last night’s Detours.  The kid says he has no rhythm.  I don’t think it required any rhythm to walk.  Just a teeny bit of coordination.

This was so funny.

Happy Monday!  I hope you all had a nice weekend.  Did you do anything fun?

No GOSSIP GIRL tonight means that my Monday night TV watching has eased up a bit. There’s plenty to watch though…still too much. Check out what’s happening on some of your favorite shows tonight [with a little additional commentary by moi.]

Chuck | 8pm on NBC
Chuck, Zachary Levi, NBCChuck, Sarah and Casey make a stunning discovery about Chuck’s girlfriend, Jill (Jordana Brewster); Ellie is determined to host the perfect Thanksgiving dinner when Capt. Awesome’s parents come for the holiday. [GMMR: Not going to spoil you, but I wil say that I got a wee bit teary during tonight’s episode.  You might want to have tissues nearby.  And CHUCK fans should tune in to GMMR later today as I have some exclusive scoop CHUCK news.]

The Big Bang Theory | 8pm on CBS
Sheldon is thrilled when Leonard starts dating a woman who meets Sheldon’s stringent standards.. [GMMR: I was lucky enough to attend a live taping of tonight’s episode of THE BIG BANG THEORY and it’s funny, funny stuff.  As always, Jim Parsons (Sheldon) has some really great material to work with tonight.  And dare I say that Sheldon is almost happy?  Sara Rue is back as Leonard’s new girlfriend and she is just lovely.  Spoiler alert – no matter how much Axe body spray you use, it will never be enough, Walowitz.]

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles | 8pm on Fox
Terminator: The Sarah Connor ChroniclesSarah’s obsession with the three dots pays off; Ellison is introduced to someone very important. [GMMR: There’s just no catching up.  The overcrowded Monday night TV schedule means that T:SCC is officially off my radar.  I’m disappointed because I really liked this show last year. I don’t blame the show but rather the network execs.]

How I Met Your Mother | 8:30pm on CBS
Ted walks into the apartment and finds Robin’s date sitting on the couch naked. [GMMR: Hmmm. Does that mean that Ted and Robin will confront some unresolved feelings? Get in there and stop that, Stinson!]

Prison Break | 9pm on Fox
Michael comes face to face with the general and is betrayed by one of his own as the search for Scylla reaches its shocking end. [GMMR: Ok, so maybe I haven’t watched much this season, but I fully intend on catching up with PRISON BREAK…at some point.  I hope.]

Heroes | 9pm on NBC
HeroesAn eclipse casts a shadow over the heroes, impacting their abilities; Arthur reunites Sylar and Elle and orders them to find Claire; Hiro, Ando and Matt follow Daphne to her hometown to discover what she’s been hiding.  [GMMR: My only guilt here is that I feel like I’m not supporting my girl, Kristen Bell.  Sorry HEROES – I tried but you lost me this season.]

One Tree Hill, James LaffertyNathan gets a professional basketball try-out; Peyton tries to get Mia to focus on her follow-up album; Julian asks Brooke to design clothes for his movie; Haley takes Jamie to his school talent show.

Survivor Gabon: “Nothing Tastes Better Than $500”

Survivor

Summer Camp is a strange and awkward place for a kid. No matter the structure of the camp or the rationale used to determine who would attend, there is something necessarily cruel about subjecting adolescents to the devious and often crushing influence of their peers 24 hours a day. I was lucky enough to avoid the overnight camp experience, but my time at Western Communities Summer Day Camp produced a trail of tears that would haunt my nightmares and feed my therapist’s bank account for years to come. Had it not been for my kickball acumen, I may not have escaped intact. To my parents’ credit, I was extracted from the camp cycle before permanent damage was inflicted. Little did I know that a small gathering of Summer Camp alumni would gather in West Africa this year, and bring back a slew of old tricks to punish one another.

This week, the eight remaining Survivors traded jabs and pranks in a flurry of outlandish behavior that has become the backbone of reality television. Depending on your perspective, this episode was either the high point or low point of the Gabon saga.

Is Crusoe Permanently Shipwrecked?

CRUSOE NBC

It looks like Robinson Crusoe could be permanently stranded on his island.

NBC has moved Crusoe to Saturday nights at 8:00 beginning December 6. (Lipstick Jungle will be airing its final four episodes in Crusoe’s original Friday night time slot). I’m not sure this is really going to bode well for the show. Last week’s ratings have it coming in at #19 on NBC’s schedule – My Own Worst Enemy was #18 and Lipstick Jungle was #20, and we all know what has happened to those two shows. As much as it pains me to say it, I’m assuming that Crusoe might not be far behind in this year’s canceled TV shows. There are 6 episodes left and I’m assuming those will all air, but there’s nothing definite yet.

Now on to this week’s episode…..Friday has become delirious and is threatening to kill Crusoe. Crusoe is desperate to save him and begs Olivia to help him find out what’s wrong. When Olivia figures out that Friday has been stung by two wasps that were protecting poisoned honey, she and Crusoe set out to find the plant that will cure him. The plant that will cure Friday is located on the side of the cliffs and the only way for Crusoe to reach it is to repel down the cliffs. While he is repelling, his rope breaks free from the tree stump it was tied to and he is left barely holding on. So how is he saved? Olivia takes her clothes off and uses them to make a rope to throw to Crusoe so he can pull himself up. Thanks to Olivia’s quick thinking, Crusoe is able to get the plant and he and Olivia are able to save Friday not a moment too soon.

30 ROCK: Gavin Volure

30 Rock Cast

What the what? I thought it was “Velour.” Anyway, the best thing I can say about “Gavin Volure” is that it made last week’s “Night Court” episode look ten times better, and is still the funniest show I’ve seen since then.

But by all degrees of 30 ROCK, this one felt forgettable and sounded suspiciously packed with writers’ room lines. This isn’t typically a problem, or even noticeable since the actors are so adept at spinning gold into even better gold, but tonight some of the dialogue rang loud and false (that Bruce Willis/rock harmonica bit springs to mind). Or we can blame it on my ears, because I feel ungracious for complaining about the quality of this show, which is a small oasis of brilliant in the middle of network TV’s ever-expanding desert of crap.

Zac Efron/Kevin Bacon in High School Footloose

November 22, 2008 by

While reading this past week’s issue of EW I stumbled across an article by Stephen King talking about some of his recently discovered pop culture interests. He made mention of a Kevin Bacon/Zac Efron “Footloose” mashup that he found on YouTube. I was interested and so I went looking. I found it and it was great! But in the “related videos” section I found this even better video. Check out Zac Efron in a scene from High School Muscial but put to the music of “Footloose”. The match of the video and the audio is actually quite impressive. I thought it was pretty cool.

Oh and here’s the video that Stephen King was talking about.

Tricia Helfer to Guest on CHUCK

November 21, 2008 by

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA goddess, Tricia Helfer, will be guest starring on an upcoming episode of CHUCK.

According to Ausiello, she’ll be brought in to work with Mr. Bartowski directly. “General Beckman — who has been growing increasingly concerned about Chuck and Sarah’s intensifying bond — considers bringing in a new G-woman to work alongside Chuck. Enter Agent Forrest, who shows no fear, no remorse and, much to Agent Casey’s delight, is very easy on the eyes.”

Replace one uber hot blone with another uber hot blonde?  Hmm.

Don’t expect Helfer to stick around too long thought.  She’s only slated for one episode.
