Maraka/Dora the Explorer on SNL

May 17, 2009 by

UPDATE: Watching “SNL Just Shorts” tonight I was reminded of just how hilarious this TV Funhouse video was. Classic!

—–
Last night Saturday Night Live featured a Robert Smigel cartoon spoof based on the popular kids show Dora the Explorer. I’m not sure if many of you will appreciate this, but if you have little ones in your life than you know the frenzy that little Dora and her friends can cause. I know my sister Karen will get a kick out of this, so this one is for her. If only Dora was this funny all the time (Swiper no swiping).

Ha, Ha! Thanks for sharing. Dora is big with our daughter so we found this hilarious. No, I did not let my child see this! ๐Ÿ™‚

This was too funny. I don’t really mind Dora, but it does get to me sometimes.

I made the mistake of trying to watch SNL while my 3 year old who LOVES Dora was in the room. When she saw Maraka she stopped moving and watched. She called her baby Dora. When it was over she wanted to watch Dora and the Penguins again. She didn’t pick up on any of the jokes, but she was really mad when I wouldn’t let her watch it again.

“Can you tell me why my father left me?”

    Brilliant.

I have a niece who is almost 3 that loves Dora. I found that quite hilarious!

My older daughter, now 8, and I watched the very first episodes of Dora back around 2000. I watched Dora for the next 4 years. My husband and I really enjoyed this clip.

  8. Carli on March 26th, 2007 2:28 am

That was so funny. I kept waiting for “Swiper no swiping” though…or something to that effect.

This got quite a laugh in my house too – loved the mittENS rather than mittINS pronunciation ๐Ÿ™‚

Is it wrong that I just let Emma watch that with me???? Viva Maraka!

  11. GMMR on March 26th, 2007 12:01 pm

Ha ha ha…You let Emma watch it? If there is a God above she’ll start going around asking everyone “Do you know why my Daddy left?” Your husband will get a kick out of that one!! Ha ha

My 2 year old is a rabid Dora fan, and I LOVED this…especially the prolonged silences while Maraka waited for her questions to be answered. I laughed so hard after the first one that I had to rewind the clip and start it again to catch what I missed.
    Thanks for the laugh!

What kills me is that most of the scenes were taken from an episode of “Diego saves the Macaroni Penguin” or something, in which Diego rides a balloon, saves a penguin egg from a bird, teaches the penguin how to slide and IT IS JUST SO WRONG THAT I KNOW THIS

I need more of these episodes.

LOL this video is so hilarious. My niece is a huge fan of Dora Explorer so when I watched this I was laughing so hard. I’ve always been a fan of SNL TV Funhouse. If you liked this video you should check out the new Triumph videos which is done by Robert Smigel who created these TV Funhouse cartoons. Check it out at http://video.dotcomedy.com/player/?id=85234 Triumph poops on Paris Hilton….haha. I work w/Nbc so that’s how I know about it. Enjoy!

“Can you tell me how to check for a hernia?”

“Can you help me decide if Robert Blake was innocent?”

“Can you tell me if this person is a girl or a guy?”

“On your tummy… Do it asshole!”

These lines… they absolutely killed me! Laughed so hard I lost a contact lens!!

SNL needs to have more frequent cartoons for us grown-ups!

    haha nice video, really funny
i don’t know if this was intentional, but the word “maraka” (actually, with a c) is kind of a bad word in countries that speak spanish, such as mine (i’m from chile).. anyway, that made this whole thing just a bit more wrong… and funny. thanks for the video!

  22. james on January 14th, 2008 6:21 pm

โ€œCan you tell me how to check for a hernia?โ€
    -Employment reference

โ€œCan you help me decide if Robert Blake was innocent?โ€
    -Reference to court T.V.

โ€œCan you tell me if this person is a girl or a guy?โ€
    -Antagonizes religous fundies

    Greater Context:
“If mittens chose to save baby penguin based on his beliefs,
and mittens’ beliefs are not in his direct control,
does mittens really have free will?”

The question is: Do your Christian beliefs require you to save the anchor baby? (Notice the baby penguin is tossed out of the balloon like an anchor on the “white” mountain.)

Are your beliefs in your direct control?
Do you believe that Robert Blake is guilty? Yes or No? Who influences your decision? Court T.V. Do you believe that Mexicans deserve priority in immigration over other immigrants? Are they more deserving than people say, from Darfur? Does Dora influence a future generations opinions on illegal immigration?

Are your beliefs in your direct control? Or, Does the television help you decide? Does the television dictate how you feel about anchor babies? Do you really have free will to decide for yourself about this issue if your beliefs are controlled by television?

That’s the kind of thing I was seeing in it.

Can you help me decide if I am racist?

    Can you?

    Tell me!
    Digame!

    Don’t think about it
    Do it asshole!

Lay on your belly and slide
    down the white mountain

    Heheheh!
The beauty is in that he uses the “Dora” brainwashing technique to impose a competing ideology… who is he? Who else? A Jew. It’s a jab at Mexicans who manipulate acceptance in the name of Christ.

Penguins: Black and White birds that do not fly. Bi-racial? Blacks and Whites that do not fly to other places. The brown bird steals the egg. Notice the abscence of “swiper” the fox. The egg is a bi-racial baby. It hatches on the way to the “white” mountain. It’s an anchor baby.

  23. james on January 14th, 2008 6:36 pm

notice also that “maraka” sounds like “macaque” or “makaka”. makaka is a slure to people form india. (google makaka george allen) maraka in hindi means epidemic!

how does maraka get the anchor baby egg back?

by getting you to flap your wings like a bird and yell loud.

    are you getting it?

    clever clever jew.
