SLEEPY HOLLOW has added a new series regular to the mix: Nikki Reed.

A rep for the show has confirmed that Reed will play Betsy Ross, Ichabod’s ex — and Ross is most famously known for being credited with sewing the first American flag.

The addition of Reed comes at a key time for SLEEPY HOLLOW. The show lost showrunner Mark Goffman between seasons (Clifton Campbell was named as his replacement.) And on-screen, Katia Winter’s Katrina and John Noble’s Henry were killed off at the end of season 2, while Orlando Jones (Irving) opted to exit the show.

The Hollywood Reporter first broke Reed’s casting.

Does ‘series regular’ mean she is in the present? Or is she recurring like Timothy Busfield as Ben Franklin? Really hoping that she’ll just appear in flashbacks.

Also, Orlando is saying leaving wasn’t his choice, so very curious what went on there.

@Liz: “Series regular” at this point means they have the right to use her (and will pay her) for the entire season. (She could end up being MIA in a few episodes, I suppose, because not every regular is in every episode, but I can’t speak to that now.) Could be possible they’re doing an extended flashback element next season where it’s more cohesive about a certain amount of time and they need her for every hour. But I’d wager somehow Reed is in the present. (Truly don’t know how/if she’d be playing Ross in the present.)

Hmm…should be interesting. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what they’ve come up with!
