Title: “Scan”
Original Airdate: Sept. 4th, 2006

Previously on Prison Break…The boys split up. Bellick got fired. Linc and Michael tried to bust out LJ but failed. Tweener hitched a ride to Utah with a co-ed. T-Bag killed the doctor they sewed his hand back on. Ok, a lot more happened, but I had to watch the episode on a red eye back from California, so I dont’ quite remember everything.

In tonight’s episode, we open with the scene of a car that has recently exploded. As Agent Mahone and the other FBI guys look on, we learn that one of the escaped convicts has perished. But which one? Looks like we are going to have to go back 12 hours in time to figure out how this all went down.

Understanding that Lincoln needs medical attention for his gunshot wound, Michael shows up at the door of his hot Russian wife. Michael Scofield goes a little McDreamy and a little McGuyver as he uses some rubbing alcohol and cajun pepper to deal with Lincoln’s bullet would. Lincoln deals with the pain by downing some pain killers and vodka, also known as Dr. Tequila Tancredi’s breakfast.

Michael leaves Lincoln for a bit to go get the car, which has everything they need to disappear. Unfortunately, it’s the car that has disappeared. Agent Mahone, who has been waiting for one of the boys to slip up, is pleased to find important information in a backpack found in Michael’s car – including cell phones and their fake passports. As it turns out, the backpack was stolen out fo the car by a homeless man. The cops don’t have the car, but they are looking for it. Michael is the first one to find the car at the local impound lot. Just as he’s getting ready to get the keys and go, the impound clerk gets a call from the FBI to stall Scofield, and insist that he NOT leave the lot. Michael catches on and steals the key right from under the nose of the impound clerk. Always one step behind, Agent Mahone misses yet another chance to nab the elusive Michael Scofield.

Bellick and Roy Geary (the CO who sold Bellick down the river, or rather sold him out of Fox River last week) meet and get into a little scuffle in a convenice store. Then in true WT style, they make up by boozing it up outside while leaning on the car. These two asshats decide to partner up to look for the convicts, and split the reward money. But before they can get going they need to have a little chat with the one who didn’t get away….Sucre’s cousin, Manche.

Surcre checks in with an old con friend and learns that Maricruz is marrying Hector on Saturday. He’s not too happy and decides that he has one last shot to change her mind. He’s going to find her. He steals a car, but the Feds are quickly on his tail. Sucre manages to get pulled over for speeding, and the cop stalls as he waits for the FBI. With his gun drawn, the cop approaches Sucre’s car, but Sucre is already on foor running through the corn fields and towards a freight train.

In tonight’s…”Um, yeah, right” moment of the week, Sucre show’s up at this friend’s place in NYC looking frantically for Maricruz. So yeah, Sucre started off in Ohio earlier in the day, stole a car and got pulled over in Pennsylvania, and then hopped on a freight train and made his way to NYC before nightfall? Oh producers, don’t try to fool us…we are on to you and the games you play. Anway, Sucre travels all that way just to learn that Maricruz and Hector are getting hitched in Vegas. Oh snap. On the road again, Sucre just can’t wait to get on the road again. His mode of transportation this time? His friend’s motorcyle. It’s a LOOOONG way from NYC to Vegas on a motorcyle. We are talking at least a week, right? Yeah, what do you want to bet that Sucre makes it there by Saturday? I’m just saying!!!

Sara is about to check out of rehab, but the cops decide that she needs to visit them for awhile first. And who is there watching her get taken away in cuffs? None other than bad ass (emphasis on ‘bad’) Secret Service Agent Paul Kellerman. Ruh Roh. Sara’s father, the Governor, who didn’t visit her in the hospital has come to rip her a new one in prison. He tells her all the things she needs to do to avoid becoming the scapegoat for the escape, starting with attending daily rehab meetings. He also inists she lie about how and when Michael got the key to open the all important infirmary door. Sara tells her Pop that she in fact left the door open for Michael to escape. The Governor doesn’t want to hear it. But he does tell her that next week he is going to be named Vice President. But Sara’s not invited to the party (or to sleep in the Lincoln bedroom).

Later we see Tequila Tancredi attending a rehab meeting. “Hi, My name is Sara and I’m an addict”. Hi Sara. Looks like she’s not the only new group member tonight. In an amazing twist of fate Agent Kellerman is also a recovering addict. What a small world. But wait, why isn’t he giving his real name. Oh, I get it…he’s lying. That Agent is up to some super shady business I tell ya. Tsk. Tsk.

Having split from the guys to do his own thang, C-Note calls his wife, who now knows that he hasn’t been in Iraq this whole time. She agrees not to turn him in. She claimes that no one from the FBI has contacted her about him. Yeah, she is lying, because the FBI is screening all her calls. He tells her to meet him one week from today at a restaurant in NYC. The feds will be waiting for him, but we don’t know if C-Note’s wife and daughter will be. C-Note manages to find his daughter at recess, and they share a special few moments. He asks her to relay a message to her mother. If her mother understands the message and trusts Daddy then she will turn the porch light on at 7pm.

Later that night, we find out that the little girl did in fact relay the message. And as it turns out, C-Note has a few tricks up his sleeve as well. Although the FBI will be waiting for him in NYC, he actually was relaying a hidden message to his wife. She seems to understand, and the light is turned on. But inside, we do find an FBI agent. C-Note…what is your woman up to? You better hope she isn’t setting a trap, because that would suck.

Checking in on Michael & Lincoln’s road trip, we find out that Michael’s tatoos lead him to a bridge. They position the car in such a way that it’s easy to push over the edge and into the ditch below. Michael has wired a bomb to go off once the car radio reaches a particular station. To ensure that the FBI think Scofield and Burrows are dead, Michael whips out a few body parts complete with blood from the underlining of the trunk of the care. Dude, this guy has thought of everything. He would be a great wedding planner, seriously. With Agent Mahone just a quarter mild behind them, Michael and Linc push the car off the edge and wait for it to explode. It has to blow up for this plan to work. Uh oh, looks like there was a problem with the radio, and it doesn’t switch to the channel necessary to set off the explosion. Rather than play a nice game of rock, paper, scissors to see who goes into the car to switch the radio station, Lincoln volunteers himself. Once inside, Michael informs him that the car will explode with one switch of the dial so he has to be fast. Just as Mahone turns the corner, Linc presses the radio and button and BLAM! POW! BOOM! the car explodes into a massive fireball.

(Sidenote: I was super excited to look up and see that we have ten more minutes in tonight’s show. I thought for sure this was going to be a cliffhanger. YAY!!)

We soon find ourselves in the same scene in which tonight’s episode began, with Mahone and the FBI staring over the burnt remains of the car. They are wondering who was inside, and Mahone says it was “Oscar Shales”. This is a name that has popped up twice now in the episode. The first time was when Agent Mahone threw some files on the floor, and he seemed to focus in on Shales’s file. As Mahone quickly corrects himself, and says “um no, it was probably Scofield” (in the car), we learn from his partner that Oscar Shales was an escaped convict that hasn’t yet been found. He has alluded Mahone for years. Seems that Mahone is a little haunted if you ask me. Good thing for him he keeps a few tums locked safely in the top of his pen, for stressful times like there. What? You don’t think those are tums he was poppsing in his mouth? Come on…what where they then? Hmmmm…

Just as Mahone is popping the happy pills, we see Michael and Lincoln (whew…) climb a mountain to safety. Michael figures that by the time they realize the bodies inside aren’t theirs, they will be well on their way to Mexico.

Michael’s wife comes through in a pinch and brings them a car. He promises to give her $13k when they get to Mexico. She wonders if Sara is going to meet him in Mexico, and Michael hesitates before he says “I’m not sure.” Wait, could Sara be more involved than we initially thought?! That would be awesome!!!

Anyway, what’s not so awesome is that Bellick and Roy have followed Michael’s wife, and now they are right on the tail of the brothers.

And this my friends, is why Prison Break is so good. There’s so much going on, and just when you think you’ve figured something out, they throw a little sumptin’ sumptin’ at ya.

Next week… Michael has more car trouble as Bellick and Roy smash him around the highway in their pursuit of him and the reward money. Tweener seems to be enjoying his co-ed road trip, but his co-pilot may just be on to him. Tweener is hitchiking and gets picked up by a guy and his young daughter. Not good.

Random thoughts by GMMR… Just wondering if we will ever see Haywire again? I wonder how he’s been faring since the prison break? Interesting we haven’t heard anything about his wacky adventures yet. As much as I LOVE LOVE LOVE this show, I can’t help but wonder if the writers have taken on a little more than they can handle with all these story arcs. I mean, we have a MAJOR death with Veronica, and yet the whole Terrence Steadman storyline hasn’t been addressed for two weeks. And what’s up with the President? Where is she (besides on another network’s show). I’m hoping that the writers get back to a little more consistent storytelling over the next few weeks. Because with these gaps, I fear that I might get a little lost.

So what did you think of tonight’s Prison Break. Chat it up in the Prison Break thread of the GiveMeMyRemote.com Forums.
