About Last Night: GOSSIP GIRL, THE BIG BANG THEORY & WORST WEEK

September 23, 2008 by

Monday is a busy night of TV, wouldn’t you say?  You might be surprised to learn that I opted out of most of it to attend what was probably my last Red Sox game of the season (there’s always post-season…fingers crossed).  Lucky for me I had seen a few of the Monday night shows in advance so I wasn’t that far behind.  I’ve still got TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES waiting for me at home along with PRISON BREAK.  All in due time I suppose.

In case you missed them, here’s Team GMMR’s take last night’s season premieres of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER and HEROES.

My saving grace was that I was able to check out GOSSIP GIRL, THE BIG BANG THEORY & WORST WEEK in advance and here’s my tiny little take on all three.

GOSSIP GIRL…
The bitch is back!  No I don’t mean Georgina…or Blair…or Little J – ok maybe there are a few too many divas on the show, but in this particular instance I’m talking about Ms. Serena van der Woodsen.  But this Serena is not like any Serena we’ve ever known.  To us this version of S has onyl been a thing of urban legends.  One girl to rule them all.  One little broken heart and she goes from sweet to saboteur.  And here I thought S and Lonely boy were going to handle their break up with maturity.  Guess not.  Watch your back, Dan.

Serena’s step back in time is the well orchestrated deed of one Chuck Bass.  Sadly this little quest has very little to do with Serena or Dan and everything to do with unnerving Blair. As we saw last night, the old Serena knows what she’s doing, and she knows how to play the game.  And when she’s running the show, there’s not much room left for the former Queen B.  How quickly the mighty and powerful (yet fabulously dressed) fall.

Between Chuck’s Nair-tini and Serena’s bitchy ways, GOSSIP GIRL was all kinds of delicious last night.  And how fun!  I am hoping we get the old Serena back soon – I think she is truly a changed woman and this new power trip will get old fast – but for now I’m along for the ride.  What about you?

THE BIG BANG THEORY…
Our whole universe was in a hot dense state,
Then nearly fourteen billion years ago expansion started. Wait…
The Earth began to cool,
The autotrophs began to drool,
Neanderthals developed tools,
We built a wall (we built the pyramids),
Math, science, history, unraveling the mysteries,
That all started with the big bang!

After all the yelping I did about THE BIG BANG THEORY last year I hope a few of you took my advice and checked it out. Please tell me you love this show as much as I do!  Seriously, it cracks me up.  I’ve missed Leonard, Sheldon, Howard, Raj and Penny.  It was nice to have them (and there neuroses) back.

So the date didn’t go well. I watched the webcam footage and there is just no way Penny is into Leonard…in that way.  She tries to convince us that she could be but she’s worried that she isn’t smart enough for Leonard.  I don’t buy it.  Nice try Penster.  We all know he was just your little experiment.  It didn’t work.  Now put him away gently.  And stop asking Sheldon to keep secrets – he’s not good at it (or lying…don’t forget the fiasco with Cousin Leo). But what he is good at is folding.  Sweet God I was loving watching Sheldon fold his shirts…and his socks.  Brilliant! As was his scenes with Howard and Raj at their respective houses.  Sheldon needs a good bitch slap every once in a while. It’s not easy for the writers to make Sheldon, Sheldon, but yet still likable.  And I was all about liking him last night.

So happy the show is back…talk to me fellow science nerds – are you loving it?

WORST WEEK…
Want to know what I thought of WORST WEEK?  Yeah?  Go check out the latest TV Talk podcast.  I’m holding my review hostage.  I’m mean…but come on, you know you want to give it a listen.

Was WORST WEEK the best or worse part of your week? (Oh I crack myself up)

Loved “Gossip Girl”! Something about the episode was a little off, as least to me. Maybe some of the cuts or the pacing of the episode was slightly off. Besides that, it was great to see Serena back in form! I was curious to see this Queen S the “GG” gang always speak of so I’m glad they finally showed her, even if it was at the (unfortunate) expense of Blair.

Is it just me or did it feel like Nate and Vanessa’s storyline was completely unecessary?

Actually I find both those characters a little unnecessary in general.

My favorite Big Bang line last night was from Sheldon (no surprise). “Mom smokes in the car. Jesus is OK with it, but we can’t tell Dad.” Bwah! I knew I loved tipsy Sheldon, but Sheldon-on-valium is even better!

Loved the Big Bang Theory last night. Especially Sheldon all hopped up on Vicodin. His face after he said he drank some funny tasting milk had me rolling for a good 5 minutes.

I enjoyed GG as well, but I’m not digging it this season like I was last season.

I am so in love with Sheldon! Really, BBT is the only show I remember that I absolutely hated the pilot, and then (after a friend almost made me watch, almost the entire first season in a night) fell in love with it.

Hmm. I was planning on watching BBT and HIMYM online. While I did watch HIMYM, CBS apparently couldn’t be bothered to put the BBT episode on their site. There is only a recap video.
Does anyone know if they put the episodes up last year? I suppose it’s possible that they will do so later in the week.

I skipped BBT all last year, but in the drought of summer television, and remembering your enthusiasm about it , I checked it out in reruns over the summer. LOVED IT! The premiere was no exception – laugh out loud funny, thoroughly enjoyable. Every word out of Sheldon’s mouth cracks me up. Thanks for the heads up and not so gentle nudges!!

I heart big bang theory. My favorite moment was when Sheldon on vicodin says “Mom smokes in the car. Jesus is okay with it but we can’t tell dad.” AWESOME!!!

I thought GG was super great this week- so many moments where I was yelling at my tv-“vanessa you idiot, don’t go tell the duke- trust blair” “chuck- you are my hero” “ah dan, you never stand a chance”….
I’m a little nervous for Queen S to come and take over… I thoroughly enjoy it when Queen B is in control and when B gets mad/humiliated she’ll stop at nothing until all is right in her world again. I say look out to everyone. And I think Nate not forgiving Vanessa for lying is lame- did he not lie to her and she forgive him?? If they are going to give these 2 characters some type of story line together at least give it a chance….

And so happy that BBT is back!

I watched Worst Week on Monday and i really liked it.. I thought the guy who plays sam did an amazing job, i was rolling when he peed on the goose and ran into dicks car.. Kurtwood Smith was hilarious as usual too… I think i’ll be adding this to my DVR for sure

Worst Week gets at least another chance. I actually liked it. I wasn’t sure how they would pull it off, making it not look all contrived just to get a joke and they did a great job. It’s so idiotic, but completely plausible. Loved that.
