GLEE’s Chris Colfer Talks Emmys, Dream Guest Stars and Season 2

August 6, 2010 by

The GLEE kids are back at work!

GIVE ME MY REMOTE chatted with Chris Colfer at a FOX party this week to see how he feels about shooting the second season and who he’d like to see guest star this year. We also wanted to know if his Emmy nod has finally sunk in.

He filled us in…

It’s been several weeks since you found out you were nominated for an Emmy. Has the reality of it finally sunk in?
Chris Colfer
: No. I don’t think it can. I don’t think it ever will. I will go to my deathbed not realizing it.

It’s so well-deserved, because let’s be honest, you made us all cry.
CC:
Thank you! And I’m sorry. [Laughs]

It’s a good thing, I promise you.
CC:
Oh good! I’ve sent so many people to therapy, I don’t know where to begin.

Well, I could see how watching your storyline could be like therapy. Whether you are gay or not, everyone can relate to rejection and family issues…
CC:
And finding yourself.

And of course, your fabulous costar, Mike O’Malley, was also nominated for his portrayal of your character’s father.
CC:
Right. I was not shocked at all [by his nomination]. In fact, had he not [been nominated], I would have been incredibly disappointed. He’s incredible.

Your entire cast is one of the hardest working groups on television. Did you get some time off before you dove back into shooting season 2?
CC:
I got like a week [off]. But then I was nominated [for the Emmy], so [there was more work because] of that. But what a great problem, right?

That is a rather high-class problem to have. And now you’re back on set and shooting two episodes at the same time?
CC:
Yes we are. That’s pretty mild compared to some of the things we do on set. I think at one point we were doing four [at a time] last season.

How do you handle that as an actor? Four episodes is a lot of storylines to try and juggle at once.
CC:
It’s a little bit of a mind game, but you almost get to have more fun with it. Like, should I be talking with this person and ad-libbing or am I mad at them? The scripts are pretty self-explanatory so you don’t really have to think about that.

There’s been a lot of talk about how they are going to decrease the number of musical performances this year. Is that a relief for you?
CC
: We don’t want to become THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY. We want there to be a purpose to what we’re doing.

Any word on your character’s boyfriend?
CC:
I’ve heard nothing, but I’m [still] praying he’s less attractive than me because I don’t want to be the weak link of the couple.

You’re not going to be the weak link of any relationship, so no worries there, but I know you mentioned you want Julie Andrews to be on the show…
CC:
I want her to play my grandmother so bad!

Who do we need to talk to in order to make this happen?
CC:
I talked to [GLEE executive producer] Ryan [Murphy] about it, Ryan is all on-board. They need to write it in.

You guys are getting all these amazing people, so why shouldn’t Julie Andrews come on, too?
CC:
Can we start a rumor that Meryl Streep wants to come on? She can play my boyfriend.

She is so amazing she probably could pull off playing your high school boyfriend… or she could be your aunt or something like that.
CC:
I love this family. Dad, Mike O’Malley, Aunt Meryl Streep, Grandma Julie Andrews. I love it!

Ryan Murphy is a big time movie director, he can make this happen!
CC:
We can always blackmail people. That’s what you do, right?

But as far as actual guest stars who are already confirmed, have you worked with new Vocal Adrenaline coach, Cheyenne Jackson yet?
CC:
I shot a scene with him [last] Thursday. I’m a big fan of his. He’s one of those Broadway Gods like Matt [Morrison] and Lea [Michele].

Is there a lot of tension between Vocal Adrenaline and New Directions, now that VA beat them in Regionals?
CC:
Yeah, I think there is. It’s weird because we’re such good friends with the dancers in Vocal Adrenaline, especially after the tour. But I think [New Directions] is going to be a little bitter.

Do you think it was good that New Directions placed third?
CC:
I think so. I think it would have been way too typical if they had won, it wouldn’t have been realistic. They have so much more [incentive] to get in there and win [this year].

I know you can’t say too much about the new season, but have you sung yet?
CC:
I have not sung yet.

BLURG!

I do not want less singing… It’s true, the show was made by the music it featured. The Glee cast sings do well and I love many of their songs. They are better than the originals in some cases! More music!

Howdy, wonderful website you have here, but I had to let you know about what may possibly potentially be described as a browser compatibility matter. I am running Windows XP 64 bit along with Safari, and the formatting is screwed up. It’s a bit hard to check out a number of aspects of the blog, and I’m running my resolution at 1920 x 600. I’m sure you didn’t aim for your web site to look so strange, and so is there any way you are able to assist me fix this?
