BONES: Emily Deschanel Previews the Latest Twist in the Brennan-Booth-Hannah Triangle

January 19, 2011 by

Last we saw Booth and Brennan on BONES, things were kind of tragic.

Brennan finally realized that she wanted more from her relationship with Booth — only to have him turn her down, since he’s with someone new.

The semi-good news? It certainly appears that things are about to blow up.

When BONES returns with a brand new episode on Thursday, the press release promises that “Booth opens up to Hannah about Brennan’s feelings for him.” Um, pretty sure those feelings aren’t one-sided, mister.

So will Booth tell Hannah the truth about his feelings for Brennan? I posed that very question to Emily Deschanel (Brennan)…

But when I mentioned it was kind of rude of Booth to willingly give up information about someone else’s feelings, Deschanel dropped the bombshell that maybe Booth didn’t initiate the conversation…

What do you think goes on, BONES fans?

EMILY, are you telling us this episodes was filmed in october and since then fans have let it be known the character hannah was not a fan favorite.

Strain on the relationship? Stronger by the end of it? Hannah and Brennan BFF? Ludicrous, as Brennan WOULD have said in the past. As always, thanks for asking the tough questions Marisa. I guess I just didn’t like the answers. Wake me up when Hannah is gone and this ludicrous SO storyline is over.

Is it more insulting or more ridiculous? Can’t decide how I feel about this phantom friendship. Is there an alternative version of Bones where this friendship occurred?

Marisa, could it be as simple as DAVID AND EMILY saying fans we had no idea hannah would be so disliked/then they could turn a negative into a rebirth of bones and fans would watch.

Give me my remote is right – hello CSI!

Marisa, let me know when Booth, the cowardly lion, has been to see the wizard for some courage. I thought this SL was supposed to get better, not more pathetic.

    Hello the Office.

Pathetic. I love ED and Brennan and all, but I just can’t stomach more of this “Brennan and Hannah are friends” crap. Whatever the intentions of the writers, no such friendship is coming across on my tv screen. And Booth? You suck. I don’t care who initiated the conversation, but grow a set, please. Call me when the blond is gone. I’ll be at NBC on Thursday nights until then.

This storyline has been pointless. Hannah and Brennan have this phantom friendship that only the Bones producer’s and writer’s get to see. As a viewer the interviews and explanations given by the producer and actors are just bizarre and make me even more confused when they keep bringing up this relationship. I see no point in to it. It makes absolutely no sense. Everytime Hannah is in an episode it feels like they are forcing every other character on this show to try and sell her as a believable and necessary character. I just don’t get why. She is not a likable character and is so flat. Hollywood definition of friendship and mine must be different. I guess it must be a hollywood thing. As long as you are able to converse with someone it makes you BFF. In my world, a friend is someone you spend time with, share things with and have similar likes, dislikes and interests. I have seen none of this between Brennan and Hannah. Everyone one the show says they are such good friends. I have yet to see this but I am probably just, dim, as Hart Hanson would say.

This show is continuing to go downhill in my opinion. It is time to turn the channel. I am glad there are better options at the new time slot. Hoping this show starts to improve. But after 9 episodes, I no longer have any faith in the Bones writer’s or producer’s.

Oh why God??? Let me say this again BRENNAN AND HANNAH ARE NOT FRIENDS, come on, we all know Brennan is a reserved person, she don’t make friends so easily, she can meet someone and be polite, but become good friends so soon?, and with Hannah????, PLEASE…first of all Hannah’s character is RUINING this show, we lost B&B chemistry, we lost the rest of the cast interaction and HH & Co insist in every interview about that stupid friendship that only they can see… Brennan is being polite, but her best friend is ANGELA, and we are missing Brennan and Angela’s interaction too. I didn’t see Brennan sharing her things with Hannah, or even having the same interest, except obviously Booth, and Hannah, is a very childish character. I can’t see Hannah as a strong woman like Brennan, she’s not in the same league with Brennan, I mean she’s quite inmature, my evidence, that absolutely ludicrous sunglass scene…she was a little spoiled bratt in that scene, not a strong mature woman. She’s a journalist, she’s very adventurous, but just that.
This is too much, I was patient, I tried to give this show an opportunity and some time this season, I waited until The Doctor in the photo, and I am not happy with the outcome, I mean Emily was fantastic as always, but Booth, oh Boy, how could they fix this mess??
As a loyal fans for years I am tired and sick of this, they are making Booth a wimp, and an a-hole. He’s being rude with Brennan and his squint friends, he’s being a complete a$$. I understand that a show need some twist and turns, but destroying the most valuable asset is not good, I miss my old Bones, I miss the banter, and I miss the Booth we all knew…I miss the amazing side stories about the rest of the squints and of course I miss B&B chemistry.
I am so tired and drained with Bones…I am losing hope, and the worst part is I am not sure if the writers can fix this I mean they are seeing the season and the characters with some kind of pink glasses, they see things we can not see, like Saint Hannah and Brennan’s friendship, or they seem to think everything is good with this new character in the middle. Well let me tell you, as a viewer I am not seeing that, I am seeing my show becoming a cheap soap opera, I am seeing boring cases, I am feeling pain and frustration in every single episode.
Now, the thing is not if they are going to get together some day, now the thing is, are the writers capable to fix this mess in a believable way?
Will they be able to redeem Booth and rebuild trust between them. If I were Brennan would have strong doubts not only about the existence of love, also would question the appropriateness of Booth to be the man to whom I could give my heart.
Sorry for my english, it’s not my native languaje

Oh and by the way, gimme my remote, maybe Grey’s anatomy could be a better option in the new time slot, someone let me know when the Afghan Barbie is gone, maybe I could come back and see if HH and SN can fix this big horrible mess. And please Bones producers stop LYING TO THE FANS, we are tired of being teased and tired of being called dim nasties or whatever.

I don’t even care if B & B get together, I would like to see their friendship back. However, that seems to fluctuate each episode, as does the direction of the story. Regardless of the writers direction, I have only viewed the show as quickly going downhill. Agree with others, I am not sure how they can get this back to what it was, and if they do, will their fanbase still be there to see it.

Don’t buy it, haven’t been buying it all season long.

This season of Bones has been a lesson for me not to read too much of the PR about a likable show. I could easily have returned to the show after a stupid storyline is over- I stopped watching after hating the London episodes, then picked it up again. But I’ve read all the news this season and got a sour taste from HH and SN’s attitudes. Blegh, think it’s ruined the show for me.

(On the other hand, this season’s determination to ‘punish’ Bones and paint her as a lonely pathetic woman did help validate the douchey male entitlement I’ve been feeling more and more since the London episodes to that stripper episode (not a big deal) where Bones stereotypically can’t drive a cool car (not cool for me).

  13. Joann on January 20th, 2011 5:37 pm

Sad! The Hannah storyline is atrocious. So bad that it’s killing my Emily Deschanel girl crush. I was so disappointed by the pathetic characterization of both BB in the last episode but was hoping to move on. But this may be proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back. I know she’s just being good, going with the party line, and it’s totally understandable. But she is a producer too. The way she goes along with the deterioration of her character (while the show tosses her a few bones on the Go Green agenda) and how she keeps sprouting the party line is making me lose respect.

  14. Kat on January 20th, 2011 6:36 pm

BELIEVE ME, everyone, i hate the hannah story line as much of the rest of you. no one LIKES hannah, and everyone wants the blonde bimbo to go back to aghan. BUT, everyone is so worried about the “friendship”, that they are missing VITAL information.
    Booth loves bones.
    Bones now loves Booth.
Booth said No, becuase, hes a GOOD GUY, hes not just gonna drop his “love” *pukes* becuase Bren says she made a mistake after she HADNT SLEPT FOR THREE DAYS, and was already acting weird.
I think hes just unsure. But, now, the IMPORTANT thing is: its on his mind. She wants him.
Now, everytime hes with Bones, hell say “what if..?”
And when hes with Afghan Barbie (thankyou, whoever said tht in the comments above, SO TRUE XD) hell be thinking, “well, if i was with tempe…”
I wont give up hope. ive invested too much time already.

I believe that Booth is gonna sit on these feelings for a while. Hell find issues with hannah, and find peace with Bones. Hell realize that she really DOES want him. and he wont be able to stay with hannah. just keep the faith people, IT WILL HAPPEN!

I had faith until tonight. It’s like somebody crossed scripts with Fringe and we are seeing an alternative universe! I don’t care in Booth loves Hannah (choking on vomit) he had no right to tell her about Bones feelings. Oh, and she never said she loved you, Booth. She said she regretted not going out with you. Big difference. I think somebody is projecting! They should have pulled the show at 99 eps, because it’s been down hill ever since. The relationship between them has been so damaged they’re not even friends anymore. It’s dead. RIP Bones 2005 – 2010 What a senseless waste of a once good show!

Who else wants to see Brennan get some hot casual action and get her mind off Booth? Then maybe Booth can chilltf out and start acting normal around her again and we can see more of Brennan’s ass-kicking, confident side. Obviously she has an insecure side, and yes she loves Booth, but that has been the main focus of her character development long enough.

We know Hannah will be gone eventually and BB will get together someday. I just want the dynamic to get a little more normal right now. Honestly I don’t think it’s been terrible, but it just hasn’t been consistent episode to episode.

And I don’t mind the Hannah Brennan friendship. Don’t hate me. But I think it shows how much Brennan cares about Booth that she has made such an extra effort to embrace Hannah rather than taking the petty jealous girl route. Just more props for Bren imho. 🙂

  17. Jen on January 21st, 2011 10:28 am

Someone else said it, and I agree…I’m not really seeing the Hannah and Brennan “friendship.” I mean, you see it acted out in the episodes (and the actors do a great job with it) but it’s just not plausible in terms of plot and storyline. The “friendship” seems very superficial and forced, especially when you see how Brennan has related to Angela (her best friend) over the years. I just don’t buy it. There needs to be more conflict and tension between them. I thought the way last night’s episode ended (with Brennan and Hannah tossing back shots together) was a complete cop-out, quite frankly. I don’t think either one of the characters would be that comfortable with each other after what was revealed. I think the writers of the show need to get their act in gear, revisit the characters and their dynamics and churn out more plausible storylines about their interpersonal dynamics.

I have enormous respect for Emily Deschanel’s work on Bones. I adore Brennan the kickass-scientist-bestselling author – she’s one of my favorite characters on TV ever. But I do think that it’s sad Deschanel has to toe the party line on this. Her character is slowly being assassinated and I for one am so disappointed to see that.
