THE BACHELOR: The Producers Torture Emily and Michelle is Still Around

February 1, 2011 by

BACHELOR fans, I’m feeling rather annoyed tonight. I’ve never hid my dislike for Michelle, though I admit, she also scares me. I know all my ranting and raving to the television can’t really change anything, but I find myself increasingly upset that Michelle is still around.

Look, I get the appeal of the wacky, out there, semi-crazy girl. I liked Vienna on Jake’s season. I thought Shayne was misunderstood on Matt’s season. But Michelle is flat-out nuts. Vienna and Shayne may have had their issues, but they always seemed to genuinely like their bachelors. Michelle seems to just want to win the competition and Brad is the shiny prize.

In last week’s recap I wrote, “I have to wonder what the heck [Brad]’s thinking now as he’s watching this back. Assuming he didn’t pick [Michelle], is he horrified? If he did pick her, is he second-guessing his life choices? Or maybe he thinks it’s just bad editing?” I feel like this should be included in every THE BACHELOR-related post until Michelle’s gone, because she keeps getting worse.

Now that I’ve gotten that rant out of the way (for now), let’s chat about what went down in tonight’s episode.

I don’t know how to explain this, but Brad thought the week in Vegas would help him figure out his relationships with the women. Really? Has he been to Vegas? I doubt there has been any city more responsible for destroying relationships than Sin City.

The two more intimate dates were relatively boring this week. Shawntel N. went on a shopping spree with Brad, which I can admit I was jealous of, because who wouldn’t want to go shopping on ABC’s dime? The Ashleys were pitted against each other for the two-on-one date, which sucked for them, but it seemed like Ashley S. never stood a chance against eventual rose-getter, Ashley H.

But in case there was any doubt about Michelle being a witch, her comments after the two-on-one date reveal sealed it. When the Ashleys were crying about being pitted up against each other, Michelle’s thought was she’s glad they’ll be separated. Really, lady?

However, the biggest drama of the night was when the group date took the girls and Brad to a NASCAR race track. Emily’s dead fiance was a former NASCAR driver and as we learned tonight, his professional career ended on that track. When Emily confessed the truth to Brad, he said he felt like a jerk to put her in that situation.

Shouldn’t they both have been supremely annoyed at ABC for not preventing this? Host Chris Harrison is claiming that the date was scheduled long before Emily was cast, but as soon as she was, shouldn’t they have planned an alternative in case she was still around and Brad wanted her on the group date? Wouldn’t that have been the kind thing to do? It’s Las Vegas. There’s no way there weren’t a million other alternatives.

Emily got through the date and said she was happy after it was done, but it still felt cruel. Yes, she deserved any closure the date brought her, but it felt even more exploitive than normal for reality television. At least Brad gave her the rose he had for that date.

And despite the fact that Michelle displayed some insanely possessive behavior to Brad’s face, he once again kept her on. Look, there is nothing scarier than a crazy person talking super seriously while telling someone what to do. During their meetup right before the rose ceremony, she told him he couldn’t talk, kissed him and then told him to go send some girls home now. “The next time we’re together, you can talk,” she told him. AND HE GAVE HER THE FIRST ROSE.

Really, Brad?

What did you guys think of THE BACHELOR? Did you feel bad for Emily? Wish Michelle would finally leave?

Let’s chat…

I tweeted off and on while I watched tonight, and most were about how insane Michelle is, and how stupid Brad was. LOL Yeah, it was horrible, the way ABC handled that date with Emily. 🙁

I’m pretty confident that Brad is TERRIFIED of Michelle. I think he worries about how many people she would kill, him included, if he didn’t give her a rose.

On another note, that “Are You Lonesome Tonight” montage that cut between sobbing, rejected girl and bouncing, happy girl was hilarious. Bad season or not, the producers are having way too much fun in the editing room.

Been watching the Bachlor since the very first episode and although I don’t remember Brad’s first time out I certainly will remember this one. While watching the show last night when just before the rose ceremony Michelle took Brad to a room and shut the door and started telling him how the other women are nothing but little girl’s and that he needs to get rid of Chantel…..really Michelle. If anything you manipulating witch he needs to kick your butt to the curb immediately. Michelle in my opinion is a user and will go to any lengths to get what she wants and the sooner Brad realizes that the better off he will be. If anyone shouldn’t be there it is her.

Totally agree, the NASCAR date was just exploiting Emily’s tragedy even more than usual for The Bachelor. Unfair to her and unfair to the others on that group date.

I will no longer watch your show – why? Brad is a miserable person and
I don’t care if he finds a mate or, once again, is unsuccessful. Please be
more careful in the type of bachelor you present on this show.
