THE OFFICE: Josh Groban Teases His Guest Spot in ‘Garden Party’

October 13, 2011 by

In case you needed another reason to love Twitter, Josh Groban shared during a conference call today that the social media site played a big part in him securing the guest role of THE OFFICE’s Walter Bernard Jr., younger brother of newly appointed office manager Andy.

“[THE OFFICE star/producer Mindy Kaling] direct messaged twittered me and I was shocked to hear from her,” he explained. And, as it turns out, Groban is a huge fan of the show and had time off from his tour, so he was able to accept the guest spot.

So what can you expect from the Bernard family in “Garden Party”?

“The episode shows a bit of backstory as to why Andy grew up to be the overachiever he tries to be,” Groban teased.

And yes, in case you were worried THE OFFICE would have Josh Groban on and not have him involved in a musical situation, your fears seem to be unfounded.

“Andy’s always had that thing where he’s got a guitar if there’s any opportunity for him to sing on THE OFFICE, he will,” Groban said when I asked if fans could expect any songs from the Grammy-winner and his onscreen brother. “And I think this episode definitely shows where that kind of ‘get it in while I can’ mentality comes from. I think this episode shows a tremendous musical rivalry in the family — not only between Andy and my character, Walter Jr., but also the patriarch. Our father, played by Stephen Collins, is quite musical and has quite a voice as well. So I think the whole musical tapestry of Bernard family comes to light in this episode, for sure.”

Groban compared the family dynamic to THE SOUND OF MUSIC’s Von Trapp family, which sounds pretty epic.

Will you be tuning in to see Groban in “Garden Party” tonight on NBC at 9 PM?
