CASTLE Scoop: Andrew Marlowe Teases the ‘Difficult,’ ‘Troubling’ Episode 6

September 7, 2012 by

CASTLE’s season premiere may still be a little over two weeks away, but the episode I’m currently dying to see is the show’s sixth hour.

“That’s a difficult one, that’s a troubling one,” CASTLE creator Andrew Marlowe told me. (Marlowe is also the one who wrote episode 5×06.) “It’s always troubling when you’re in the midst of a very difficult investigation, a very startling body find, and all the evidence starts pointing towards someone you know.”

Yep, that’s right, one of our guys is a suspect. Or more specifically, Marlowe teases: “All the signs point to Castle committing the murder.”

What, you didn’t think this season would be all sunshine and rainbows now that Castle and Beckett got together, did you? But at least it seems like Castle’s friends will try to have his back as the case against him gets rough.

“It’s difficult because they all want to stick up for Castle, but the evidence is overwhelming,” Marlowe said. “Castle’s story is not very good. It becomes very difficult; it becomes how well do we really know this person? Here’s a guy that sits around all day thinking about how to murder people. Is it possible that he’s crossed the line? Especially when an [old] affair is uncovered that he may have been hiding from Beckett…with the victim.”

While Marlowe allowed “there are a couple [of former Castle exes the fans] wouldn’t mind seeing dead,” the victim is someone we haven’t met before. Hm…

Are you excited to see how the team will deal with Castle as a legitimate suspect? Or how Beckett might deal with another one Castle’s exes…albeit one who is no actual threat? (And yes, there’s more from Marlowe coming your way in the coming weeks.)

Waow!! That looks like an AWESOME episode!!!
I mean.. last time, when Castle was “arrested” by Beckett, they quickly find out he wasn’t the killer, but this time it’s different!! SO COOL!
There are so many possibilities just after reading this article… it’s insane.
Example: 1)Another test to Castle/Beckett relationship. 2) How Gates will react during this episode? Will she want to bury #Caskett for good? (Lol! No pun intended! :p)
    3) How does Beckett will react to all this? How will she deal with Castle and not reveal her relationship to her co-work? Or *will* she reveal it to them to save him???? Mmmmmm
These are the type of questions that came up right away after reading this.
    *Exhale* 🙂

I’m sure this would be great and all, if Bones didn’t JUST have that storyline in the finale. In fact, it’s going to be in the premiere too on September 17th…

    Too soon, Marlowe.

  3. TM on September 7th, 2012 5:56 pm

Well, PT, he can’t wait to program his show schedule around other shows. If he did, there would be some other show doing the exact same story in half a year and then another and so on. You just have to watch every show as an individual series, with no link to others.

Why does it matter what Bones does? It’s not the only show to have this plot happen to their main characters and won’t be the last. Castle is Castle. Bones is Bones.

This episode sounds like it’s going to be AMAZING! Marlowe’s writing it so something must be getting set up to be brought back up later in the season.

    Possibly 3xK setting Castle up?

FICTION 🙂 – thank God dead bodies seem to follow Richard & Kate…it will keep our toes curled and our hearts racing. As for Mr. Castle…Beckett is a martial arts expert and drop dead gorgeous…behave Kitten or you will be in deep trouble. Boys will be boys and Rick rides naked on stolen horses LOL – but we all love him anyway & our writers always get him out of trouble 🙂

Awesome. This sounds fantastic and will be another test in the Caskett relationship. You have to hand it to Marlowe he knows how to keep us on this roller coaster F-Moonlighting that curse wont happen with Castle with story lines like this.

  7. Missy on September 7th, 2012 7:42 pm

Oh, but that is exactly what’s happening in BONES, isn’t it?

  8. Sarah on September 7th, 2012 7:51 pm

Oooh that sounds like a great episode. Always love their more dramatic outings. I’m really excited for the season to start, it sounds like Marlowe’s got really great ideas for working with Castle and Beckett as a couple. Should be fun to watch!

I think it is a bit early for this ep. I think this ep should be arranged to be shown later in this season, not as early as this. This could be much better if it happened later this season, after the return of 3XK, the angst between them would make the ep much better.

I’m sorry but this is too fucking much. I am a Bones and Castle fan, but this is crossing the line. Get your own fucking storylines Marlowe. Too many now to be a coincidence.

  11. rachelle on September 7th, 2012 8:48 pm

As someone who watches both Bones and Castle, let me just say that pretty much everything’s been done and re-done on tv. It’s not about who did it first, but who did it better. Not to mention the fact that the circumstances in each show are very diff. But I digress. I’m excited for this story line. I feel like Beckett is gonna be forced to be Castle’s alibi and they’ll have no choice but to oust their relationship. I hope that if that’s the case, they’ll catch a break so they won’t have to come out to Gates, maybe just Kev and Javi.

  12. Bob on September 7th, 2012 10:08 pm

All the Bones fans sound silly and petty.

  13. ayra on September 8th, 2012 1:00 am

i think the reason why Castle doesn’t have a good alibi is because he was with Beckett during the time of the murder (me thinking that it would be during the night when they are cuddling on the bed:)..and the fact that they are keeping their relationship under-wraps, he just couldn’t tell the truth..

well..that’s just my theory 🙂 i am already loving this episode :)) if that’s even possible:))

and can we please stop the war between castle and bones? ..they are BOTH great shows that i, for one, enjoy watching..yes they are both crime drama but they have different approach..so let’s just sit back and relax and wait for these two shows to be even greater:)

  14. Alie on September 8th, 2012 1:31 am

WOW! Sounds pretty intense. I don’t watch “Bones”, but I absolutely agree that people need to realize there are no real “new ideas”, it’s just a matter of how well it’s written.

I can just imagine Beckett working non-stop to clear his name. She’ll drink the crappy precinct coffee just to stay awake and solve the case. I can also see R&E right there with her. One does have to wonder if Gates will forbid them from working the case, thus forcing them to do it on their own time.

  15. Virginie on September 8th, 2012 4:13 am

Stop saying that they take ideas from Bones. You know what other has done this? NCIS… back in 2005 (season 3). So Bones didn’t invent anything, nor will Castle.

That said, I absolutely love the idea. I can’t wait to see this one.. and all the others. What I’ve read so far of Season 5 sounds really interesting and really good.

  16. CarlagUK on September 8th, 2012 4:52 am

Was a little concerned initially at the similarity of the plotline to that of ‘Bones’ but I can live with that. I love Marlowe’s writing and am sure that the ‘Castle’ storyline will not disappoint.

I am a huge fan of both of these shows by the way and must acknowledge that most plotlines have been done before in other crime dramas. However it is how they are written and acted out that is important.

  17. janet on September 8th, 2012 6:11 am

sounds like a classic episode thanks to the writers

  18. Marie on September 8th, 2012 11:38 am

I think it’s going to be a tremendous episode! I too am I Bones’ fan, but IMO, there is mcuh more chemistry (without a doubt) between Castle and Beckett then there is between Booth and Brennan! Also, Beckett is really phenomenal in the interrogation room, much more then Booth. These are just some brief reasons why I think tha the C&B episode is going to be way superior to Bones!

  19. consuelo on September 9th, 2012 8:07 pm

La diferencia que hay entre castle y bones es que booth confia en brennan , no sabemos como va a reaccionar beckett a todo esto … confiara en castle o no ???

  20. E on September 9th, 2012 10:43 pm

Cannot wait. I watch Bones too. So many shows have done this sl. Relax people. I am sure AM will do it in his own way. I doubt Castle will run away. Interested to see how Beckett will handle it and whether or not the others will know about their relationship at this point.

  21. PatD on September 10th, 2012 10:37 am

I had not considered the fact there are currently similar themes in Bones, but there are only so many ideas in the medium. My coworker at Dish and I were thinking about all the clichéd sitcom ideas one sees through different series. I think it’s best to just acknowledge other shows have similar ideas. That said, I can’t wait for the season premier of Castle and Bones, I have my Hopper DVR ready. It automatically records all the shows in prime time from the four major networks without me having to do anything. I am really excited to see Beckett and Castle together, I hope Castle can be proven innocent but I suppose time will tell.

  22. Sara on September 10th, 2012 3:34 pm

Haven’t we already done this? Pretty sure Castle’s been a suspect before. Meh, not that suspenseful. Of course he won’t really have killed someone.
