Survive a near-fatal gunshot…and ask for a divorce?

That sure seems to be the case on SCANDAL, as a recovering Fitz requested a divorce from Mellie.

“Obviously, that’s a big storyline and I don’t even know where it’s going to go,” Tony Goldwyn (Fitz) teased to me. “I think it’s safe to say that Mellie doesn’t take that lightly. You would not expect that she would.”

And that may be quite the understatement.

“This is not an option!” Bellamy Young (Mellie) said in character. “I will use any resource at my disposal — and I do mean any — because this is simply not an option. It’s gutting, it’s gutting, it’s a body blow. Mellie’s [got her eye] on the long game. So I’ll absorb the blow, take a little bit of time, and then I’ll get to erasing that idea from his mind…She’s carrying his child! In the White House! He has this near-death clarity that I need to replace with pragmatism and a sense of context and once that happens, Mellie is sure [she’ll get her way.] Mellie’s not going to give in to this divorce.”

Which means she may turn to outsiders to make sure she gets her way.

“Absolutely!” Young affirmed. “[Mellie will go to] anyone and everyone.”
