PRODIGAL SON’s Jessica (Bellamy Young) and Gil (Lou Diamond Phillips) may have been fighting their feelings for each other all season—and, frankly, much longer than that—but things bubbled to the surface in “The Killabustas” in an unexpected way: with a dance.

“I thought last week’s episode was great,” Young gushes. “We loved doing it, and everyone has been really nice to us about it. I got to film an ’80s romance movie [scene] with an ’80s movie star, so how can I complain? Literally!”

And the song the duo danced to? Well, it came from an unexpected source. “Lou reads all the scripts out loud to his wife when they come in, and Yvonne, immediately, when he was reading her that scene, said, ”Slave to Love,” Young shares. “And he was like, ‘What?’ She said, ”Slave to Love.’ That’s the song.’ And he sent it to our producers, and they got it approved, and we danced. It’s like classic; I loved it.”

However, there was a bit of lead-up to that moment that ended up getting cut. “[The episode] ran long, so that scene had to be truncated a bit,” Young shares. “Before I drink the beer, there was a little bit of back and forth about [him possibly helping her]. He said some lovely romantic things…[that were] sweet and supportive. There’s more of a bit more of a fight to win him over, a bit more of a back and forth. And then just when I think he’s gonna say no to me, he asked me to dance. And I was like, ‘All this and Lou? Come on.'”

Things are decidedly less lighthearted for Jessica in the Tuesday, April 27 episode, “Exit Strategy,” as she realizes she needs to take an uncomfortable step to move forward with writing her book.

“Jessica, as she’s trying to write this book, it’s not like the rest of us when we go to the therapist and you remember your best memory or write down something like a little memoir,” Young previews. “Her life experience was greatly shared with a sociopathic serial killer. So what she starts to unearth doesn’t just have seismic implications for her, but potentially for so, so many others: what if we don’t know how many people get killed? What if he has a whole other life? So, I think, in her search and research for her book, she starts to find more questions than answers.”

Which leads her to an unfortunate conclusion: “The only person who has the information she needs is Martin. So she just fuels up and goes to get it.”
