9. Community
We’ve always defined COMMUNITY by its originality, but no show can be as original in season five as it was in its early years, and if we stop there, we miss everything else that this show still does brilliantly. Season 5 was a return to smart, self-aware form, and it dealt with the loss of two original cast members with two gorgeous reflections on friendship, death, and what it means to grow up. It also gave us one of my favorite TV lines of 2014: “That’s like me blaming owls for how much I suck at analogies.”
