FOREVER: ‘The Night in Question’ Teases

April 21, 2015 by

IOAN GRUFFUDDFOREVER has been teasing the mystery of what happened to Henry’s wife (and Abe’s mother), Abigail, for a little bit, and in tonight’s hour, “The Night in Question,” the truth of her disappearance will be revealed.

After watching the (great) episode, I have a few (not completely spoilery) thoughts/teases for you guys…

  • Abe had kept his investigation into his mother’s location mostly on the DL (only relying, adorably, on Lucas), but after he informed his father that he had a lead, the two men set out to figure out what happened to Abigail. They don’t, however, initially loop the NYPD in on that news, which leads to some (minor) complications.
  • Henry and Abe follow their investigation to a house, where the find a woman’s body buried in a shallow grave. Whether the body is Abigail’s or not is entirely too spoilery, but the discovery of it does set off an investigation into a chain of events that happened 30 years earlier.
  • Remember that charged moment Jo and Henry shared last episode? Poor Jo gets a bit worried that she may have altered their relationship by going to Henry immediately post-not going to Paris. (Also, we discover someone kind of ‘ships Jo and Henry. It’s as great as you might imagine.)
  • Jo wasn’t the only one who planned on being out of town during this case: Hanson had planned on a vacation with his family…and so he brings a few family members with him when he chases down a lead.
  • Henry and Abe let Lucas see a part of the store he’s never seen before. And he. freaks. out.
  • In some ways, being “on the bubble” is the best thing for a show. While it undeniably makes things more stressful for everyone associated with the series (not to mention the people who watch/care about it) to not know whether a show will come back, there also tends to be a sense of putting it all out there in shows that don’t know how long they’ll be around. (Look at what FRINGE or even PARKS AND RECREATION did in the years they had to fight for renewal.) Would we have gotten an hour like this if the show was absolutely coming back next year? I don’t know. I could see the network/studio arguing to hold on to this tidbit. But what the hour gives everyone to work with is delicious, and I can’t wait to see the ramifications in what’s to come.

Enough from me. I truly don’t want to spoil what goes down for you. But tune into FOREVER tonight (10 PM, ABC) to find out what really happened to Abigail…
