'Elseworlds,' THE VOICE, THE ROOKIE

THE ROOKIE – “Time of Death” – Officer Nolan and Officer Bishop respond to a silent alarm call at a local convenience store where two men are attempting to rob the place. Officer Nolan pursues one of the suspects on foot and is forced to make a split-second decision that will affect both of their lives. Meanwhile, Officer Bishop helps coordinate a drug bust that hits a little too close to home for Officer Bradford on “The Rookie,” airing TUESDAY, DEC. 11 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EST), on The ABC Television Network. Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!SUPERGIRL/”Elseworlds”: I’m a bit disappointed the episode felt more like a Superman installment, no matter how fun he (and Lois!) are, as compared to a SUPERGIRL episode. It was fascinating to meet another version of Alex, but it felt like the episode was much more about Oliver’s deal. (My spoiler-free guess: he made the deal to sacrifice himself and it’ll come to pass in next year’s crossover. But I suppose that would be dependent on next year being the end of ARROW and whatever they do in ARROW’s future storylines this season.)

THE VOICE: Sigh. Well, that’s the top 4!

SPLITTING UP TOGETHER: I don’t want Lena and Martin to be looped in a cycle of unrequited feelings for each other and not moving forward, but the show also feels at its warmest when they care about each other. I don’t want them to be miserable, but I hope they find a good balance.

THE ROOKIE: Excluding the ending for a moment, the episode was absolutely fascinating. It could have been cheesy to see the impact of a first kill, but they were smart about acknowledging how rare it actually is for officers to fire weapons. The silence in the immediate aftermath of the shot, the shaky work to signify his mindset, etc. But the ending felt like a bit much; it feels like it’s also now an easy way to get out of the complications of him making the shot. (Also, how could they think it was a glitch in Isabel’s camera? The last thing they saw was someone lunging for her!)
