PSYCH is Finally Getting a TV Movie Sequel
February 14, 2019 by Marisa Roffman
Wait for iiiiiiit…PSYCH is getting a second TV film, a rep for the show confirms.
The charming fake psychic detective series ran from 2006-2014 on USA Network; the cast reunited for a TV film that aired in 2017. Though the cast and creative team was open about wanting to do more, the cast has remained incredibly busy: James Roday stars in the (recently renewed) A MILLION LITTLE THINGS, Dule Hill is on (the soon-ending) SUITS, and Maggie Lawson has been recurring on LETHAL WEAPON. The series also stars Kirsten Nelson, Timothy Omundson, and Corbin Bernsen.
In the second film, “Santa Barbara Police Chief Carlton Lassiter (Omundson) is ambushed on the job and left for dead,” USA Network teases. “In a vintage Psych-style Hitchcockian nod, he begins to see impossible happenings around his recovery clinic. Shawn (Roday) and Gus (Hill) return to Lassie’s side in Santa Barbara and are forced to navigate the personal, the professional, and possibly the supernatural. Separated from their new lives in San Francisco, our heroes find themselves unwelcome in their old stomping grounds as they secretly untangle a twisted case without the benefit of the police, their loved ones, or the quality sourdough bakeries of the Bay Area. What they uncover will change the course of their relationships forever.” The film will be directed by series creator Steve Franks, and is co-written by Franks, Roday, and Andy Berman.
The cast has been teasing the return of PSYCH for weeks on social media.
