10 Favorite Pilots of the 2010s

Pilots…are tough. Shows have to introduce a world, characters, and, in theory, set up where the show will go in the first season. But when they’re done correctly? Boy, they can be magic.
As the decade comes to a close, we look back at some of our favorite pilots over the past ten years…*
THE AFFAIR (October 12, 2014)
Halfway into the first episode, I remember so vividly being annoyed at the characters…and then the show changed perspective and I was absolutely hooked. It’s a hell of a way to try and tell a story, but when you’re telling how an affair impacts two families, it’s isn’t exactly black and white. When the pilot ended, I wanted to instantly start it again to see what I missed with the new context.

*We’re also doing a list of favorite episodes over the decade. As a note, one of the (self-imposed) restrictions was nothing that no show that made this list could make the other so there wouldn’t be a huge amount of double-ups. (It also served as a tie-breaker for some shows, whose pilots could have made this list, but ended up with a different episode in that one instead.)
