The 100th episode of CHICAGO MED brought a good mix of love and heartbreak.

When April (Yaya DaCosta) collapsed in “The Ghosts Of The Past,” she admitted she had been doubling up her hormones in an attempt to make her IVF successful. She did it, she told her fiancé, Ethan (Brian Tee), because she needed to make it up to him—she had kissed Crockett (Dominic Rains).

“The blowup will profoundly affect this triangle as we go forward in the season,” executive producer Diane Frolov teased via email.

For the engaged couple, who has struggled this season as they attempted to have a child, things aren’t over—but they’re not exactly great, either. “Ethan and April will try to repair their relationship,” Frolov said. “But it will be very difficult.”

The betrayal will echo on a different level with Ethan and Crockett, who had become friends in recent episodes. “[That] relationship is poisoned,” Frolov said. “And although they have to work together, there will be tension between them.”

Also struggling will be Charles (Oliver Platt) and his daughter, Anna, as the duo adjust to being back in each other’s lives. After the teen came to work with her father and saw a parent at risk for losing their child due to negligent parenting, Anna expressed concern she might be removed from her absent father’s life since he hadn’t been a great parent to her as of late.

“The episode sets the stage for a new relationship between father and daughter,” Frolov said. “Anna will be returning and spending more time with Charles. For all of Charles’ expertise as a psychiatrist, he will find himself ill-equipped to deal with a difficult adolescent!”

But there was some light in the hour, as Maggie (Marlyne Barrett) and Ben (Charles Malik Whitfield) tied the knot. As for what’s ahead for the duo? “A new and unforeseen issue will come into Ben and Maggie’s life — something they will deal with as a couple,” executive producer Andrew Schneider teased.

Any guesses?
