As ZOEY’S EXTRAORDINARY PLAYLIST’s first season winds down, Zoey (Jane Levy) is facing another major change at work as her best friend/potential love interest Max (Skylar Astin) is now sans a job.

“Yes, Max is floundering, but in other ways, Max is thriving,” ZOEY’S creator Austin Winsberg previews. “And perhaps this getting fired could end up being something very positive and good for him.”

And not just professionally: “For the Team Max fans, Max and Zoey also take some big steps, make some big strides in the season finale.”

But with the episode called “Zoey’s Extraordinary Dad”—and Zoey’s father, Mitch (Peter Gallagher), struggling with his health in recent episodes—the Clarke family will be center stage in the season 1 closer.

“The whole season has been leading up to this episode,” Winsberg notes. “And that everything that happens in this episode is an extension of stuff that happened in my own life and with my own father. I’m just trying to be true and authentic to my own experience and experience of what this family’s going through.”
