Let’s talk about Sunday night’s TV!

Emmys: I’ll start with the positive: Given the scope of how much technology they were juggling, it was incredible impressive how much they were able to pull off. I absolutely didn’t expect it, so major props for that.

The Jimmy Kimmel intro would have been funny if they had forgone the absolutely cringe-worthy start with fake audience shots. You want to play that gag for one joke? Fine. To go as long as they did, banking on people sticking around to discover it was a joke? Not cool and not funny during a pandemic. And actually distracting from the monologue itself.

It’s an unenviable position to be in, to host and put on a show that is so over the top as everything is going on. But it felt like—to use a sports metaphor—this was the NFL games that had limited fans versus the NBA games in the bubble. They tried to so hard to make it seem like it was normal that it was actually more distracting and upsetting versus going all-in on it being different, which actually allows you to adjust to the new normal.

The sweeps were also pretty exhausting. No matter how incredible a show is, during Peak TV, very rarely, if ever, does it deserve a win in every single category. But there were some fun wins, some good speeches, and…may we never have another Emmy telecast like this again.

BIG BROTHER: Oh, boy, is it absolutely infuriating to see Nicole and Dani so manipulate the situation. I get this is a game, but the ruling alliance is so insufferable, so to see them pick off the more interesting/compelling contestants every week is just exhausting. And Memphis being this sneaky to backdoor David? Absolutely gross. He’s already public enemy number 1, you don’t need to be this tricky. Lying to his face is a choice, especially if you’re sending him to the jury house.

LOVE ISLAND: Johnny is gross. I get he’s 22, but his behavior has raised so many red flags. And the guys being like, why would he lie, he knows it’s on TV? Yeah, sure, but it’s not like Cely is seeing what’s going on when it airs. And HE doesn’t know what aired, so he could be banking on it not being a huge amount or Cely being in so deep she forgives him. I truly freaking hope Cely shows him the door, but I don’t have a huge amount of faith at this point.

Also, Connor clearly isn’t over Mackenzie, so why is he wanting to stick in the Villa? Shouldn’t he be fine with getting out so they can reunite?
