The delightful PRODIGAL SON will be paneling at the virtual TCA on Tuesday, March 2 (ahead of a big episode) at 10:20 AM PT.

Follow along as stars Tom Payne, Lou Diamond Phillips, Bellamy Young, Halston Sage, Aurora Perrineau, Frank Harts, Keiko Agena, and Catherine Zeta-Jones, along with co-creators Chris Fedak and Sam Sklaver talk about the Fox drama…

10:34 AM: After a Fox sizzle reel, we’re officially starting the PRODIGAL SON panel. Tonight’s episode is the midseason finale, with the show returning Tuesday, April 13.

10:37 AM: Why did Zeta-Jones come to PS? “I was a fan of the show. I gravitate to the kind of the [storytelling]…it’s pretty family drama, with a twist of danger. It’s a dark family. I gravitate to darker material. And, also, with Michael Sheen, who is literally from my hometown. I had never met [him] before.” She notes they have childhood friends in common.

As for Dr. Capshaw, she was “intriguing to me. When I spoke to coming into a great show that has been both critically acclaimed and has a great following, it was like, what am I going to add? But when I read a draft of the script, it drew me in.”

10:42 AM: “Still waters run deep. There is a complexity to her that I’m excited to unfold,” Zeta-Jones says. She praises her co-stars, whose “great work drew me in.” She praises Phillips’ directing in her first episode.

10:44 AM: “I was super happy and excited someone like Catherine would want to join our little gang,” Payne says. “My jaw dropped, “Agena adds.

Phillips says he didn’t know his episode was going to be the midseason finale—or who the guest stars would be. He calls Zeta-Jones “so gracious, so warm, so inclusive of everyone.”

Harts jokes he was kind of scared when she joined, because she’s “Hollywood royalty.”

10:48 AM: “It’s a bunch of different things coming together,” Fedak says of the draw of the show. It’s not just a serial killer show, but it’s also comedic with a family element.

“It’s admirable when characters who are darker than the regular folks can be charming,” Zeta-Jones says.

“We could not have known, but I really believe we are the right story for the right time,” Young says. “What this show does so well is it laughs through the horror and laughs through the pain, and reminds you that family is what we have.”

10:51 AM: Harts talks about the stress he felt in the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder, and talking with the EPs about tackling police reform. “They were truly interested in having the conversation on-screen and in front of the audience.”

10:54 AM: “How do you keep those two apart? They’re just so much fun onscreen,” Sklaver says of Dani/Malcolm. Fedak says they’re interested in exploring it.

“It’s been first to friendship…Bright is a weird guy to be friends with,” Sklaver adds.

“It’s been a really cool transition…as time progresses, you learn more about them and more about their characteristics,” Perrineau says.

11:00 AM: We’re getting an Edrisa-centric episode! “Edrisa has a lot of hopes, so we’ll see how those unfold,” Agena says. We’ll meet people from outside of the core group of Edria’s friends.

11:01 AM: “Halston kills it, so to speak, in [tonight’s] episode,” Phillips says. “It was amazing working together,” Sage adds.

11:02 AM: And we’re done! Zeta-Jones ends with a joke, asking if they can stay around for THE MASKED SINGER panel.

And watch the fantastic teaser!
