THE WINCHESTERS: SUPERNATURAL Prequel in the Works at The CW

SUPERNATURAL may have ended this past season, but the Winchesters’ story may not exactly be done.
THE WINCHESTERS, a prequel series following John and Mary (AKA Sam and Dean’s parents), is in the works at The CW. Though the network tried to do a few spinoffs during the show’s 15-season duration, none ever made it to series.

With this show, SUPERNATURAL star Jensen Ackles and real-life wife/SUPERNATURAL recurring guest star Danneel Ackles will serve as EPs, with Ackles narrating. In the potential show, “told from the perspective of narrator Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles), THE WINCHESTERS is the epic, untold love story of how John met Mary and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world.”
“After SUPERNATURAL wrapped its 15th season, we knew it wasn’t over,” Ackles said in a statement. “Because like we say in the show, ‘nothing ever really ends, does it?’ When Danneel and I formed Chaos Machine Productions, we knew the first story we wanted to tell was the story of John and Mary Winchester, or rather the SUPERNATURAL origin story. I always felt like my character, Dean, would have wanted to know more about his parents’ relationship and how it came to be. So I love the thought of having him take us on this journey.”
SUPERNATURAL scribe Robbie Thompson will pen the potential new series. No casting for the prequel has been announced, though Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Matt Cohen previously played John on the mothership, while Samantha Smith and Amy Gumenick played Mary.
Deadline was first to report the prequel series.
