THE SIMPSONS, AMERICAN IDOL, THE EQUALIZER

THE SIMPSONS: When Bart’s latest prank leads to chaos at Springfield Elementary, Marge and Homer dream of a world in which their rambunctious son was never a Simpson in the “Bartless” episode of THE SIMPSONS airing Sunday, Mar 5 (8:00-8:31 PM ET/PT) on FOX. THE SIMPSONS © 2023 by 20th Television.

Let’s talk about Sunday night’s TV!

THE SIMPSONS: One the sweeter modern-day “what if” THE SIMPSONS episodes. It’s always interesting to remember that while Marge and Homer were young parents, they also weren’t THAT young…they were years beyond their high school start. Things might be a bit calmer for the family sans Bart, but it wouldn’t be complete. (Also, Ralph would get HAROLD AND THE PURPLE CRAYONed. And we got a new ITCHY AND SCRATCHY segment…when was the last time that happened?!)

AMERICAN IDOL: Another really solid round of auditions. Sarah Beth, Marybeth Byrd, and especially Elijah McCormick were great. Keelin’s song was catchy as hell, but I’m surprised they didn’t have her audition with something where you could hear more of her voice. (Or, I guess, they might have done it and not shown it.)

(Though I do hope the focus is more on Wé Ani’s—incredible—voice going forward rather than OMG SHE SOUNDS SO DIFFERENT THAN HER SPEAKING VOICE!!!)

THE EQUALIZER: After Robyn spent all episode empathizing with a mother who went above and beyond (and to illegal lengths) to save her daughter, now she’s in a quasi-similar spot: What will she do to keep her daughter with her?

I’m glad that Dante and Robyn are back to “normal” now. We just had Robyn having hardships with two of her closest allies, and now that she has this big fight ahead of her, she’s going to need all of the support she can get.

But, man, what a heartbreaking situation. Understandable (and wrong), but, ugh, what a mess.

THE GREAT NORTH: I love how wonderfully weird Lone Moose remains. And apologies to Beef, I do not know how many cleanings it would take for me to be willing to get in a suit that had been, uh, defecated in.

MAGNUM P.I.: As much as Magnum and Higgins are trying to hide their relationship, they’re not being particularly subtle at work or around their friends…

Loved getting to meet Rick’s sister, though. I’m sure we won’t see the wedding, but I’m glad he now knows her better—I can’t believe she hid a relationship from him for four years?!—and maybe they can/will share more of their lives going forward.

BOB’S BURGERS: Oh, no, Tina. Well…she tried. And she did make some progress, despite the attempts to change herself.

FAMILY GUY: Given how terrible everyone is to Meg, it’s almost astonishing she doesn’t just have banked rage she can call upon, but Peter heckling her worked wonders.

And, uh, poor Stewie broke after seeing his parents in bed together. (It’s crazy to realize the show hadn’t played that card yet?!)
