AMERICAN IDOL, THE EQUALIZER, MAGNUM P.I.

“Lost and Found” – When a man claiming to have lost his memory wakes up behind a dumpster with a gun in his hand, McCall and the team follow a trail of clues to help uncover his whereabouts the night before, on the CBS Original series THE EQUALIZER, Sunday, March 19 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+. Let’s talk about Sunday night’s TV!

THE SIMPSONS: The show has come back to former characters and done sequel episodes, of sorts, but it’s honestly insane they went all the way back to season 1 for this return of Jacques. And it worked! It didn’t feel like it was cheap or mining the past for a gimmick…the bowling alley would be in understandable jeopardy in 2023. But it’s also always funny, because for us it’s been more than three decades since Marge was tempted, specifically, by Jacques; at that point, she didn’t even know what brunch was. But the kids haven’t aged in that time, so it was also almost like it was (figuratively) yesterday.

AMERICAN IDOL: Mariah Faith and Kamron Lawson were two of my highlights of the night, but it was a really solid episode until the Fire of it all.

Look, the judges are not required to give a contestant another chance or an easy path to Hollywood. But the problem with them showing a weaker contestant get through (a few weeks ago) because they had a ~hunch~ is that when they push others to bring more to the table, it brings up the question of why. Was it just a feeling before? Was there a lot more in the other audition we didn’t see? Because it felt cruel, this week, to have Fire there, push her to sing another song in front of her young daughter, and then tell her to come back for Nashville. And, look, I assume she makes it through with flying colors, because otherwise splitting it up and showcasing it the way they did is just cruel. But it still is hard to watch as it is.

THE EQUALIZER: I thought this was a really fun episode, as the team tried to figure out who the hell this guy was and protect him. Mel getting to step up and be his main point of contact was great, as was her casual leaning on Dante.

Also, holy Dante and Robyn moment. Please, yes, thank you, more of that.

THE GREAT NORTH: Moon’s temper tantrum at his city wildness retreat was both funny and alarming. But, yeah, this kid maybe needs a little more prep for a larger city existence, if he’s ever going to spend any amount of time there. (Like, please don’t think about eating the zoo animals, kid. I promise there are better/easier solutions to hunger than that.)

On a lighter note, Honeybee and Wolf are going to be wildly fun parents, if they ever go down that path. (Harder to happen in an animated show where time rarely changes, but still.)

MAGNUM P.I.: Yay for Gordy! Glad he’ll be back more thoroughly working with the team going forward.

It’s also really funny that for as much as T.C. and Rick (mostly Rick) were freaking out about whether Magnum and Higgins were together, all it took was really asking and Thomas acknowledged it because he was too happy to keep it from his friends. Really excited to see what the group dynamic is like now that everyone can be themselves and the relationship is out there.

BOB’S BURGERS: Oh my God, the April Fool’s prank attempts were…so much. Honestly, we’re lucky the April Fool’s Day pranks weren’t tied into Linda’s history (and present) as the Dare-y Queen, because that woman was committed to the bit.
