THE X-FILES may be returning—with a new creative team behind it.

“I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who is going to remount THE X-FILES with a diverse cast,” series creator Chris Carter told CBC’s On the Coast. “So, he’s got his work cut out for him because we covered so much territory.”

The original series, which starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, ran from 1993-2002 on Fox. The show returned for two revival seasons (in 2016 and 2018) and had two feature films (in 1998 and 2008). However, this new reboot is not being developed for Fox, a source confirms.

In 2020, Fox was developing an animated spinoff of the series, THE X-FILES: ALBUQUERQUE, which would have followed “an office full of misfit agents who investigate the X-Files cases too wacky, ridiculous or downright dopey for Mulder & Scully to bother with. They’re basically the X-Files’ B-team.” That series is no longer in development.

What do you think of a possible THE X-FILES reboot?
