THE EQUALIZER, AMERICAN IDOL, and THE GREAT NORTH

“All Bets Are Off” – After Dante’s old training partner is taken hostage while working undercover in an illegal casino, McCall hires J.J., a former gambling addict (guest star Mike Epps), to assist with the mission. Meanwhile, Dee joins a peer counseling group and learns that some students have been bullying her on a social media page, on the CBS Original series THE EQUALIZER, Sunday, March 17 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs). Let’s talk about Sunday night’s TV!

THE EQUALIZER: It’s very funny how used we are to McCall kicking ass, because how absolutely badass she is gets hammered home when someone new experiences it. J.J.’s reaction was hilarious.

While obviously I would love Dante and Robyn to take a step forward in their relationship, I really appreciate how mature they’re being about the entire situation. They know it wouldn’t be casual, they’re both interested, but there’s stuff going on that makes the timing wrong. (And somehow them deciding to put their drinks on pause was sexy as hell?!)

(Absolutely adored the family singing “Made You Look.”)

AMERICAN IDOL: Well, the Alyssa Raghu/Julia Davo situation was gross. Was the situation manipulated to make it a “surprise” when Alyssa auditioned? Sure. But it felt absolutely awful after her “best friend” just got rejected. If she makes it to where fans can vote, the narrative certainly will alienate viewers against her. (And Julia wasn’t even good!! And yet I’m indignant on her behalf.)

The highlights: Elleigh Marie had a gorgeous audition. (Also, you kind of can’t tell her no when she gets that kind of bad news about her dad having to go on a year-long deployment that day.) Athena Jett was good and her sister was adorable. Amari’s “She Used to Be Mine” was fantastic. Reagan Mills has a lot of potential.

A “moo”-off…sure was something that happened. Sigh.

THE GREAT NORTH: Is it bad a savory smoothie sounds interesting?!

It was really, really sweet how everyone tried to help Judy with her show and getting more, uh, zazz. And they geared it specifically toward hockey fans! It was an absolutely great moment both for her and also weirdly funny? God, I love this show.
