THE SIMPSONS, THE EQUALIZER, THE GREAT NORTH

THE SIMPSONS: When someone in Homer’s life passes away, he and guys from Moe’s go on a roadtrip to scatter the ashesÖ but will their friendship die as well? on the all-new “Cremains of the Day” episode of THE SIMPSONS airing Sunday, April 21 (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT) on FOX. Let’s talk about Monday night’s TV!

AMERICAN IDOL: Okay, wow to Julia Gagnon, Jayna Elise, Abi Carter—it is absolutely a woman’s contest to lose this season.

Generally speaking, it’s really hard to cover Whitney Houston on these shows—though we know contestants try constantly—but it’s insane that three of the 14 chose her songs for this theme week. (And two-thirds made it through!) I don’t know if it was a rights issue, but I do wish there had been a bit more variety.

THE SIMPSONS:  The show has killed off side characters before, and also explored how the bar friend group can be clique-ish to others (poor Moe), but this was a sweet tribute episode. Also, it’s a brilliant concept to kill off a character who means something to the characters but relatively little to us (sorry to Larry!!!), while also allowing us to get insight into who this character was all along. (Plus, a new song!) A solid episode.

THE EQUALIZER: I really loved how we got McCall and Dante talking about Big Ben for a beat during their one real scene. Even when they’re not actively working together, they’re still looping each other in.

A bioweapon based on someone’s DNA…anyone else have DESIGNATED SURVIVOR flashbacks?

Okay, Miles wants in?! Who saw that coming?! There’s no way this ends well—whether he gets hurt or implodes or something else—but I’m intrigued. And especially given Delilah’s (very timely) legal issues…this could dovetail in an intriguing way in the second half of the season.

THE GREAT NORTH: Oh my goodness, Judy and Kima accidentally getting high because they didn’t realize what the special gummies were was hilarious. (Laughed out loud when they didn’t even realize that edible meant, uh, drugs.)

Look, this may be basic, but it’s always good when we get Alanis singing. And also laughed at the silly FRIENDS references. I love this show.
