I Could Kill Someone

July 20, 2007 by

I try to keep it clean here on GMMR but it pains me to not spew expletives right now at the asshat that sent me an email yesterday that gave away a MAJOR and I mean MAJOR plot point in the new Harry Potter book (which no worries, I will NOT be spoiling you).

The email came to my GMMR email address with the title “Breaking News”.  I thought that maybe it was some fun celeb gossip, but no, it was an email that had 3 major spoilers in huge font.  Who does that? Did you not have parents?  Were you not loved?  And before you ask, yes I tried to send a reply email, but as expected it was a fake email address.

So if you are the one that sent me the email, man up and come clean.

Hi there – long time reader – first time poster. That is so not cool. I am trying my best to avoid the spoilers – which means a total media black out once I get that book in my hands. Maybe sooner – just in case.

I never understand why people feel the need to spoil things that are this big. Why can’t they just let people have their moments? Boo-urns is what I say.

I love your blog by the way! I check it at least once a day!

    Jenn

That is horrible news. Seriously my deepest sympathies. I would hate for 10 years of reading (and anticipation) to be ruined by a couple of idiots. Hopefully Comic Con will cheer you up!

But thanks for the warning. I guess I won’t be checking email for the rest of the day.

I don’t understand why people do things like that. They must be miserable or something. If you want to form a group to go take care of this person, I’m sure alot of us would team up with you. Good luck in finding the person.

That’s ridiculous…the only way that could be justified is if you asked someone to tell you what happens once they find out- and I highly doubt you did that!

I hate that people are taking the thrill and fun from Potter fans who have been patiently waiting for this day to come! Good luck to everyone trying to wait and be surprised by reading it for themselves! I’m still on book 6- a little behind- and I know it will be literally impossible to sheild myself from the ending!

Oh no, I am so sorry Kath! It has been like warfare trying to dodge these Potter spoilers. I am a huge HP fan and it just kills me that people would try to ruin it like that. And more than that, the fact like seemingly reputable news sources like the New York Times publish plot details before the book freaking comes out!! I mean, come on…is that not just defying common sense!?

Again, I’m sorry some jerk thought it would be fun to ruin your reading experience. Everyone deserves to discover the ending of this incredible series on their own, in their copy of the book.

🙁 Well I’m not much of a Potter fan but that was NOT funny. A mean thing to do…very mean.

I work part-time at a book store, so of course I’m working ’til 3 a.m. tonight/Saturday morning. I’ve never attended a party, so I wanted to work this shift (never mind I’m putting in 8 hours at my “real” job, too), but I’m getting scred that some customer will ruin the book for me.

I may forget ‘the customer is always right’ adage and take the plastic Hermione wand we have behind the counter and put a curse on that person!!!

Sorry someone ruined it for you. Do you want to borrow the wand?

I’ve been avoiding spoilers like the plague but I am SO afraid that some little 8 year old brat in line in front of me is going to ruin it all. I’m thinking about taking my iPod just to tune everyone out.

GMMR – I’m so sorry you had to go through that. I’ve totally been avoiding some of the sites because of this and I really want to enjoy this last book w/out knowing anything. I was spoiled for book 6 and I really think it took away from my experience of reading it for the first time. I hope you can still enjoy reading the book despite this.

Oh GMMR I’m so sorry; that royally sucks! I really feel for you. I’ve been VERY careful this past week in reading my email and any of my typical media outlets. Its aweful someone would do that to you. Its terribly malicous and thoughtless. Why does everyone want to spoil it now? Some of us have been waiting many years for this and its terrible that just 1 minute of time could spoil all that waiting. (=====:-)=====) AntiSpoiler hug to you!

Just 10 1/2 more hours to go!

I’m so sorry GMMR! This really absolutely sucks. I’ve been trying to avoid spoilers too. I hope you find out who sent the email.

  13. HealthcareHottie on July 20th, 2007 2:58 pm

That really blows. I’m so sorry about that. I know I’m looking forward to reading book 7 and I’ve managed to avoid all spoilers so far.

Is there any possibility that the e-mail could have contained foilers?? I’m just trying to look on the bright side for you here.

  14. Shari on July 20th, 2007 2:59 pm

that SUCKS! I’m sooooo sorry!! Are you sure the spoilers are TRUE though?? Maybe the person was even MORE of an @$$hole and they were feeding you BS. I pray for your sake the entire email was a lie and the spoilers- whatever they are (and I don’t care cuz I don’t read the HP books but still) -are not true. For your sake, of course.

Oh god, did I send that to you? Whoops, meant to send that to THE DEVIL!

What the frak are people thinking? If I get that email, not only will I delete it, I’ll jump off a building and hopefully kill the bastard that sent that email in the process.

    So not right.
