THE OFFICE Thursday on Give Me My Remote

A girl can really get used to this whole new episode of THE OFFICE every Thursday thing. After a summer without, I feel almost spoiled. Counting down the hours go a bit easier when I can talk about my favorite show with all of you, so let’s get to it.

Tonight on THE OFFICE….
Launch Party - The Office“Launch Party” | 9pm on NBC
Michael gleefully anticipates attending the company’s Web-site launch party in New York. Meanwhile, Angela arranges a bash in Scranton, while tight Dwight gets wrapped up in a real paper chase: He tries to sell more paper than the Web site. (Promos at OfficeTally.com)

From the Desk of Meredith Palmer…
In this week’s TV Guide blog, Kate Flannery gives us a little scoop on just how plastered she got for tonight’s episodes and fills us in on why she’s so excited to attend The Office Convention in Scranton later this month. Read Kate’s updates for all the latest news, but be warned, there are a few spoilers for tonight’s episode. Leave her a comment – I know she reads them all. (Kate’s Blog)

THE OFFICE Recap: Fun Run

Jim & Pam

WOW! Just wow…there are no words for everything I’m feeling right now. Do you know that we live in a world where Jim Halpert & Pam Beesly are dating…and are happy? I can’t stop smiling (and neither can they). How great was it to see our OFFICE friends tonight. Things just see right with the world. And the best part? There’s another new episode next Thursday too!

So I don’t think there’s much of a need to recap tonight’s episode, because come on…I know you all watched it. And I’d like to say that I was able to jot down every single important moment but for the first time in forever I (a) watched the show with other people and (b) watch the show only once (although we did have to TiVo back a few times to rewatch some swoonworthy scenes and to hear some lines that we laughed right over.)

Because it’s reeeeaaaaally late, I’m going to be completely self indulgent and talk about some of my favorite parts of tonight’s episode. Then you can remind me of all the parts I forgot to mention. I can’t wait to get home to watch this episode a few more times. Be warned, the following has no rhyme or reason to it (did I mention it’s late?). Oh and before we get started please know that I am fully aware that The Office is NOT only about Jim & Pam, but you’ve gotta give me a little room here to live in the moment, deal?

Jan & Michael are living together and Jan has seemed to really embrace her new role as house-girlfriend. No sign of the apocolypse with those two but then again it’s only the first episode.

Angela & Dwight have some issues. Well I guess I should say that they have more issues because they’ve always had issues. I was a little thrown by Dwight and Angela tonight. Angela seemed really different. Where was the judgemental gal that we came to love? She’s been replaced by a hot blonde with cute bangs who wears sheer shirts to work and asks Pam for relationship advice. Who is this woman and where is the real Angela Martin? And Dwight? Did he suffer from another concussion tonight? I don’t know if Greg Daniels and crew are taking Dwight in a new direction this season but I thought he was a bit darker than he has been in the past. Maybe it was just me but Dwangela seemed a bit odd tonight. And did they break up? Say it ain’t so.

My Day on the set of THE OFFICE (Part II)

My Day on the set of THE OFFICE

It’s Office Thursday (late but it’s still Thursday)!!! I thought I could use our weekly Office Thursday time to share Part II “my day on the set of The Office”. During Part I, I rambled at length about how we spent our day, but what I didn’t really get into was the experience of meeting the cast. And what a thrill it was. So to that end, let’s get to it.

First off I should say that Jennie and I were invited to observe day of filming for The Office. It was a work day for the cast and crew, so despite all the access we had, it wasn’t the time to interview the cast. So I know many of you asked what type of questions I asked – but it really wasn’t about that. Maybe some other time. Sorry that I don’t have any pics of the cast without me, but a girl has to remember the day somehow, right? Feel free to click on the pics to enlarge them (and sorry but one you might have to click again once they are enlarged as they are a bit distorted after the first click). Oh, and I’m really, really sorry about how long this post is. If I were a better writer I could be more succinct – but sadly for you and I both, I’m not.

Hmm, where to begin. I guess I should start with my first cast sighting. The first time I saw a Dunder Mifflinite was actually on the monitors. Pam and Phyllis were having a little chat in the conference room. At first I was trying to place the episode in which this scene took place. It hadn’t really hit me yet that the little TVs we were watching were a direct feed from the next room where they were filming. Within a few minutes I had settled in and was watching Michael, Dwight and the ladies film a scene. And then it happened – the camera panned over and BOOM! there was Krasinski. Now I must tell you that I had convinced myself that John wasn’t going to be on set. I thought for sure he was going to be down South filming Leatherheads. But nope, there he was in all his tall and lanky glory. It didn’t suck.

Me and Ed HelmsEd Helms was the first cast member that Jennie and I were able to meet and talk with. Actually over the course of the day we probably saw Ed more than anyone else in the cast. My first instinct was YEAH Andy is back, and then WOW he looks SO different than he did on The Daily Show – so much younger (must be the lack of glasses). We were chatting it up a little with Ed about his time on TDS, how happy he was by the fans immediate response to Andy, and even checked out some YouTube video of him and his band The Lonesome Trio. Ed was a really sweet guy and I’m so glad he is now a series regular on the show.

The Office Paley Festival

The Office Paley Festival

Just got home from the Museum of Television & Radio Paley Festival featuring The Office. It was a wonderful evening filled with laughs and tears. Ok, there were no tears but I was hoping to make my review a little more quotable. There were laughs though – many of them.

Upon entering the DGA I immediately spotted my first cast members as they were giving interviews in the media line. I was standing off to the side and warmly greeted by Leslie David Baker (aw, Stanley). While in the lobby I met up with some friends whom I’ve met online and those responsible for hooking me up with a ticket. I don’t know if mentioning names is cool, but you know who you are and THANK YOU!! The MTR people were trying to escort people in, but they weren’t having much luck since the cast was just inches away and everyone wanted to watch them.

The Office Thursday on Give Me My Remote (UPDATED)

The Cast of The Office

For the love of Jim Halpert, it seems like it’s been forever since we’ve have a new episode of The Office. Yeah, I know, it hasn’t been that long, but it feels that way, right? We’ve got a whole bunch of Office gossip today! This took me forever to pull together, but it’s Thursday…and it’s The Office…and it’s done from love. As always, check this post throughout the day as I’ll be updating it with new stuff if it comes my way.

Get Ready for Some Serious Groveling…

beg.jpgAlrighty then, before we get started I have a HUGE request. Give me a minute to get down on my hands and knees to start begging. Depsite being a paying member of the Museum Television and Radio organization, I was shut out of getting tickets to The Office panel at the upcoming Paley Festival. I was planning on meeting Tanster from Office Tally, as well as Officeianados Tori and Wendy in LA just for the event. If for some reason YOU got tickets and are interested in selling them, PLEASE PLEASE let me know. And if you are an Office cast member with some tickets to spare I would love you forever if you felt like giving some away.

(Also looking for tickets to the HEROES panel and the UGLY BETTY panel, but I think you know what my top priority is)

You Have Won a Tiny Dundie…
The Office, SA As I’m sure you all know by now, this past week The Office took home the Dundie SAG award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. The SAG award might not hold the same prestige as the Emmy, but it’s my favorite as it honors the entire cast. The Office is at its best when all of the cast members get to show their stuff so it was such a thrill to see them all on stage. If you want to relive the night then GMMR has got you covered. (The Office SAG award coverage – pics and video)

Go behind the scenes with John, Jenna, BJ, Rainn and Leslie in a new post-SAG interview on TV Guide. (SPOILER ALERT…and let me just say SQUEE)

Tonight on The Office…
The Office, Ben Franklin“Ben Franklin” (8:30 pm EST)
Todd Packer is back (YAY), and being the fool that he is, he encourages Michael to bring two “adult” performers into the office — a stripper and Ben Franklin — in honor of Phyllis’s wedding shower. Meanwhile Karen confronts Pam about her past with Jim. Rumor has it that the fight gets heated and ends up with Karen and Pam wrestling naked (and that, my friends, was my attempt at trying to bring in more viewers.) Four clips have been released for tonight’s show, and yes, I watched them. I know I said I wasn’t going to anymore, but cut me some slack, it’s been 2 weeks since a new ep and I needed a fix. (TV.com clips)

LIVE Office Chat TONIGHT…
The Office Chat
How I’ve missed you all. Tonight we will be chatting up before, during and after the show at our weekly Office chat over at BuddyTV.com. We usually get started around 8pm/EST so make sure you swing by and say hi. Stop by once and you’ll never be able to watch the show without your online friends again. Click here to set a reminder for the Office chat.

Dear Pam Beesly…
pam-letter.pngThe Baltimore Sun send a letter to Pam asking her the questions that we all want answers to:

To: Pam Beesly
From: Not Jim Halpert
Subject: NBC’s “The Office”

Here goes.
I’m just going to throw this out there, Pam.
I know your life is complicated. You didn’t marry Roy. You still like Jim. Who doesn’t like Jim? I’m even starting to like Roy. Your ex-fiance has cleaned up his act this season.

Question: Will you go back to him? Or, finally, will you profess your love for Jim? Will Jim finally shed what’s-her-name? What is her name? Karen? The new cookie? (continue reading)

Joss Whedon & James Gunn’s Top TV Characters

August 21, 2006 by
Filed under TV Comedy, TV Drama

I have two confessions to make, neither of which will come as a shock to long time GMMR readers, but might be a bit shocking to our newbies.

Joss Whedon(1) I best know Joss Whedon from his stint as the car rental guy on Veronica Mars.

Ok, well that’s not entirely accurate. I have known “of” Joss Whedon for years. But as someone who has never seen Buffy, Angel, Firefly or any of his TV shows, I can’t say that I know much of his work beside his guest appearance on VM. And before the “are you crazy” and “OMG you have to see Buffy” emails come flying in, please let me say this: I believe every single one of you that tout Buffy as an amazing show – probably one of the best, EVER!! But I didn’t get into it while it was on, and now there just aren’t enough hours in the day for me to catch up with the series. I can’t keep up with my TiVo as it is now. Sadly, Buffy and the other now-defunct Joss Whedon shows might become part of my DVD library when I retire (if I live that long).

James Gunn(2) I only first heard of James Gunn as Jenna Fischer‘s husband and Kirk from Gilmore Girls brother.

I am NOT, repeat NOT a fan of horror movies. I know some of you love them, but I am a big old scaredy cat and I just can’t watch them. I get freaked out too easily, and I can’t sleep for weeks. So until you guarantee me that John, Josh, Jason or Ryan will hold me tight while watching, I may never see any of James Gunn’s already classic movies. That being said, I thought he was fantastic in Lollilove, and anyone that had the foresight to marry the fabulous Jenna Fischer years before she made it big in The Office…well, the guy must know what he’s doing, right?

Now that you know the extent of my knowledge of both men’s body of work, you may be a bit shocked to know that I am crazy about both these guys. I read their stuff online all the time, and I really enjoy their take on all things pop culture. Whether it’s Joss’s comments on WHEDONesque.com or James’ MySpace blog updates, I love love love when these guys have something new to say.

So here we are….both men have recently shared their take on the Top 25 TV characters of all time. First it was James Gunn’s list on MySpace, then his comments back to the legion of fans on WHEDONesque, and now finally it’s Joss Whedon’s response to James Gunn’s list and Joss’s own personal take on the best in TV characters. Did you follow that? Yeah, me neither.

I wanted to share my favorites from both lists. But make sure to check out the rest for yourselves.

From the list of James Gunn (full list can be found here)

Pam Beesly (Jenna Fischer), THE OFFICE (American)
Gob Bluth (Will Arnett), ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT
David Brent (Ricky Gervais), THE OFFICE (British)
Creed (Creed Bratton), THE OFFICE (American)
Reverend Jim Ignatowski (Christopher Lloyd), TAXI

…yeah, just because the guy is married to someone on the list (a list which also includes one of her co-workers, and her boss) doesn’t detract from his overall opinion. Those are some of the best characters – so there!!

From the list of Joss Whedon (full list can be found here)

George Michael Bluth (Michael Cera) – Arrested Development is impossible to choose from, but the buttoned-down kid is usually the character I can’t stand and George Michael is frikkin’ adorable. Poor little guy.

Logan Echolls (Jason Dohring) from V Mars. Smirking his way into TV history.

Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) – The American Office is another throw-a-stone (hit-a-favorite), but I’m giving it up for Jim, ’cause I’ve watched that scene between him and Pam in the season 2 finale like 17 times and his readings are smooth like booze. Also, he’s the person in that scene who’s not married to James Gunn, so I can rant and nobody gets freaked. (I fear James as I fear few things.)

Dr. Gregory House (Huge Laurie) – House. If you saw him in Blackadder, even more so, but if you haven’t, House. The last great humanist.

So now that you have their take…who are YOUR favorite TV characters of all time and why? I’m dying to see what y’all think. Make sure you post your favorites here. I’ll be compiling a list for a future post. Maybe your reponses will be included.

The Office’s Jim & Pam…Season Finale is Perfect

Click here for The Office season finale, Season 3.
The following contains spoilers for the season finale of “The Office” so if you haven’t seen it, you should skip school or quit your job so you can go home and watch it now!!!
[gv data=”mGD-MvIOltI”][/gv]

I’m not really sure what I can say about the season finale of The Office other than it was perfect. No, it was beyond perfect. That 40 minute show had me crying tears of laughter and you know, maybe I cried once or twice near the end. I was eagerly awaiting some good Jim and Pam scenes right from the beginning, but the episode itself was so funny that I often forgot about the big Jam moments that were promised.

Steve Carell wrote this episode and he did not disappoint. I really loved how he utilized the whole ensemble cast. Hell, even Darryl got a talking head tonight.

Darryl: I told Mike some uh, some phrases to help with his interracial conversations, you know, stuff like, “fleece it out,” “goin’ Mach 5,” “dinkin’ flicka,” you know, things us Negroes say.

And don’t even get me started on the genius that is Creed Bratton. Creed’s cleptomania and his declaration that he never owned a refrigerator…I can’t, I just can’t.

Creed: Oh I steal things all the time. It’s just something I do. I stopped caring a long time ago. You should see how many supplies I’ve taken from this place. Honestly, I love stealing things.

Right from the opening scene, the show was in top form. The look on Dwight’s face when Jim was using his telekentic powers to move the coat rack..so freakin’ funny. And how about Michael’s choice of charities? No, not “Comic relief”, but the Afghanistanis with AIDS.

Michael: I am going to donate to Afghanistanis with AIDS.
Jim: I think you mean the aid to Afghanistan.
Michael: No, I mean Afghanistanis with AIDS.
Phyllis: Afghani.
Michael: What?
Phyllis: Afghani.
Michael: That’s a dog.
Pam: No, that’s Afghan.
Michael: That’s a shawl.
Dwight: Wait, canine AIDS?
Michael: No, humans with AIDS.
Creed: Who has AIDS?
Jim: Guys, the Afghanistanannies.

But we quickly learn that AIDS is no joke. Although Michael hopes it were:

“I hope to someday live in a world where a person could tell a hilarious AIDs joke. It’s one of my dreams.”

I’d like to say Michael Scott was in rare form last night, but really it was just Michael being Michael. And when Michael has to deal with the affections of two women, hilarity insues. Our boy is a stud. And how about Jan Levinson crushin’ on Michael? Yes!! Carol was adorable, and I hope she is back next season. For those of you who don’t know, Carol is payed by Nancy Walls, a brilliant comedic actress in her own right who just happens to be Steve Carell’s real life wife.

The whole episode had me laughing out loud, and it’s in a tight race with “Diversity Day” as my favorite episode of all time. If you know how much I love “Diversity Day”, well, that says a lot. There were so many hysterical moments last night…Kelly’s Kobe speech, Dwight running interference for Michael, Kevin and his band (and his mad poker skills), Toby chasing his feelings. Sooo much!! I know I didn’t do a good job at capturing them all. You should definitely check out Northern Attack for James’s breakdown on the episode (which will probably be live later today), and Office Tally to vote on the episode, and for a recap of some of the best quotes from this highly quote-worthy episode.

But really, at the end of that day was it about the laughs? Hell to tha NO!! It was about Jim and Pam. Pam and Jim. Jam. Never has a show so far exceeded my expectations. I thought that maybe we would get a few more “knowing” glances of mutual adoration, or if we were really lucky, Pam was going to tell Jim that he shouldn’t move to Stamford. But no…we ended up with Jim declaring his love for Pam, and kissing her!! WTF? I was dying!!!

John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer played out the scene in the parking lot to perfection. Pam’s stunned look when Jim blurts out that he’s in love with her. His lay it all on the line statement that he that wanted to be more than just her friend. And of course, the single tear leaving Jim Halpert’s face when Pam tells him that she can’t, and that he misinterpreted things between them. I didn’t breathe during that whole scene…I swear.

We all thought it would end in the parking lot. That’s that. Jim finally put it out there, and Pam denied him, and we would have to wait until September to see how these two could function in the same office after this life altering moment. But no, oh no…there was more. In shock of what just transpired, Pam calls her mother to discuss. We are privy to Pam’s side of the conversation that went something like this…

Pam: About ten minutes ago. No, I didn’t know what to say. Yes, I know. Um, I don’t know, Mom, he’s my best friend. Yeah, he’s great. Yeah, I think I am. Jim walks in. Um, I have to go. I will.

I think I am? I think I am? You think you are what? In love with him?!

We don’t really have time to process what Pam was saying because our boy, Balls of Steel Halpert, comes walking in and BAM!!! lays one on his girl. Now that’s a man who knows what he wants and won’t take “I can’t” for an answer. See the thing is, Jim knows Pam. Jim knows Pam better than she knows herself. He knows that he didn’t misinterpret their friendship. He gets that Pam is just too scared to admit her feelings for him because she doesn’t want to deal with the ramifications. By taking the initiative, Jim makes the decision for her…and she quickly gives into her feelings and kisses the real love of her life right back. Yes, she pulls away, but the woman had to breathe. At that point in time, I needed an oxygen tank. It’s the next morning and I still do. And don’t think I haven’t watched the scenes about at least 50 times already. My ppor TiVo needs a rest.

So yeah, the season finale of The Office was ok. I’ll take it I guess. Ha ha!! And for the record, all the Jam moments came during the last 10 minutes of the show…thank God for supersizing.
