CBS has revealed its fall premiere dates, and it’s very different than the originally planned lineup.
When the network first set its initial batch of fall plans, they intended to air their own original scripted shows. But with COVID-19 continuing to impact production, CBS will lean into acquired shows (STAR TREK DISCOVERY, ONE DAY AT A TIME, MANHUNT: DEADLY GAMES) and its reality lineup to get through the first few months of the traditional fall lineup.

“Celebrity Guests: Gabriel Iglesias & J.R. Smith” — Keegan-Michael Key hosts, as Team Gronk with comedians Bobby Lee and guest Gabriel Iglesias compete against Team Venus with comedian Ian Karmel and guest pro basketball player J.R. Smith, in a variety of outrageous challenges on the series premiere of GAME ON!, Wednesday, May 27 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. The elite athletes go head to head in epic contests, including kicking a field goal at the Colosseum during an L.A. Rams game, a battle of strength against the strongest man in the world and a soccer drill with musicians Mark McGrath, Coolio and Macy Gray. Pictured (L-R): Ian Karmel, Venus Williams, J.R. CBS’ new show GAME ON! is billed as a new competition challenge, but it’s hard to properly prepare for how crazy the series actually is.
GAME ON!, loosely based on the UK series A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN (which was hosted by James Corden, who is an executive producer/guest star on the CBS show) finds two teams competing, one captained by tennis superstar Venus Williams, and the other by NFL’s Rob “Gronk” Gronkowski.
Every week Team Venus (Williams, comedian Ian Karmel, and a rotating guest) faces off against Team Gronk (Gronkowski, comedian Bobby Lee, and a rotating guest), as host Keegan-Michael Key leads them through challenges. But even the mundane things—like trying to answer questions—have extreme twists. (You try having a clear mind answering questions when the world’s strongest man is trying to push your teammates off a mat.)

With CBS renewing most of its lineup, only three new shows were ordered—and the network is going ahead with a planned fall launch.
“We’re excited to come off another season as America’s Most Watched Network and, despite the obvious challenges around us, put together another winning lineup,” said Kelly Kahl, President, CBS Entertainment in a statement. “Next season, we’ll have five breakout returning freshman series and three compelling new shows placed into a schedule with the incredible stability for which CBS is so well known. Couple that with our broadcast of SUPER BOWL LV next February, and CBS is simply loaded with a lineup that will clearly appeal to both our advertising partners and our loyal viewers.”

There may not be any sports on television right now, but CBS’ GAME ON! is launching on May 27 with some of the biggest athletes taking on bizarre physical challenges.
Based on the U.K. series A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN, the show, which is hosted by Keegan-Michael Key, “pits two teams of three, captained by tennis champion and entrepreneur Venus Williams and Super Bowl champion Rob Gronkowski, alongside comedians Bobby Lee and Ian Karmel and rotating sports stars, comedians and celebrities, against each other in over-the-top physical challenges, absurd trivia and epic field competitions.”
