BONES Review: The Crank in the Shaft

October 2, 2008 by

Just when I think Bones has grossed me out to the max they turn it up to 11. I agree with Booth. That was nasty; it is not good, it’s bad.

The Case…
An office manager is found mangled in an elevator shaft. Once again there were a lot of suspects, and once again I was surprised. Although I didn’t quite get it. So, Chip was sleeping with froggy Patty, or not? And if not, then how did her skirt get Monica’d? And if so, then when was he sleeping with blue fingernail girl? Hmmm…I don’t need (or want) an actual reenactment of the murder and previous events, but, I was a little confused by that whole part. As far as the stapler goes I didn’t know what those two holes were at first, and I thought maybe it was a grilling fork, and then my friend L would really be King (or Queen or head Bee or whatever) of the lab.

The Squints…

  • Fisher, aka, labbie of the week. I didn’t like him at first, but he grew on me. He made me laugh, especially when he said “Life is always the cause of death, man.” I think he was a good foil for Hodgins.
  • Hodgins was good this episode. He’s still in love with Angela, don’t you think? He does have kind eyes, Angela is right about that.
  • Angela. I wish we were seeing more of her art. I feel like that part of her hasn’t been utilized this year. I liked her approach to embracing what has happened because for what it was worth, it was painful and beautiful and real, and she’s glad for that.
  • Cam was smart this episode. And she was on top of things at her job. I think this. This is not the Cam from the season opener (which is fine by me). I liked her interactions with Fisher. Funny.
  • Sweets was minimal, but good. Did you see the way Booth used his charm smile on him? Oh, so good. Sweets was like, “uh, no…” haha. I’m glad Sweets is chilling in the diner, too.

Brennan and Booth…
Friends, I think I’ve been foolish. You see I’ve been enjoying all these special Booth and Brennan moments this season, including this episode with the ‘queen bee’ talk and the chair stuff. But I think something terrible is going to happen. This is pure conjecture, and I haven’t seen future episodes or anything, but I think Booth and Brennan are probably going to have a big nasty fight and, I think it’s going to be bad, like…very bad. I mean the show is just toying with us, aren’t they? Am I paranoid? Maybe, but, I’ve been burned before by shows I love. I also wouldn’t be disclosing the full truth if I didn’t say that I think part of the trouble, maybe even the start of it, will be in the form of this guy…

BONES

I hope I’m wrong, and we’ll just have a season of Booth and Brennan smiling brilliant smiles at one another and telling each other how impressive and special they are. Somehow I just don’t see that being the case.

Favorite Line of the Night…
Not so much a line, as much as the part where Brennan was in her office, and her little proud smile after ‘helping’ Angela. I love when Brennan is like that.

Thoughts?  We’re a few episodes in.  How is everyone liking the season so far?

yeah they kind of glossed over the two conflicting stories part. Here’s how i think it happened (Monk style): She caught the two of them, he threw the stapler, she dropped, landed on the floor that they were using, got monica’d that way (to be p.c.), and then they kicked her down the shaft.

I agree mostly, but it was the woman who threw the stapler.

The guy had said he was having sex with the office manager to explain the semen stains without involvinh his girlfriend.

Ooooh… I hadn’t thought about it, but you may be right. We’ve never really had a big, huge B/B fight before, one that’s lasted more than an episode. There have been times when Brennan has been angry or felt betrayed by Booth, but she’s too logical to let that interfere too much with their work relationship. But if it was Booth who was angry… yeah, I can see where that would be really bad. And I can definitely see where it might be coming up soon, with that guy.

On the other relationship front, not only is Hodgins still in love with Angela, but Angela’s still in love with Hodgins! GET BACK TOGETHER, YOU GUYS!

I loved how happy Bones was after she ‘helped’ Angela. I get happy just thinking about how silly cute that was!

Def something big and juicy coming up with Brendan. He is yummy. I now what character he is going to play )not going o spoil it for those who don’t know) but it might be really, really good.

I rewatched ep 4.02 and caught the part I missed when Angela and Hodgins broke up. I had been feeling really lost. they will work it out and it will be hot.

    Man I will never learn…

Bones is always on when I come home for work to eat dinner. I always find a nice spot to sit in front of the t.v. as I watch Bones with my food. I keep forgetting about all the gross stuff they deal with on the show. Goodness… I will never learn.

So casewise, I guess TPTB are assuming we are smart enough to put 2 and 2 together – the murder victim landed on the, um, forensic evidence and that’s how traces of THAT were found on HER. I guess I’m okay with that, but usually they walk us through it, so it was kind of weird. And a stapler? That was reaching…but BBQ utensils? You can never go wrong there….

I was feeling Cam again. Very business-y, back to her old self. And I agree with Seels’ point – we haven’t seen enough of Angela doing her thing lately. And I miss that.

I loved Fisher. I think he was great. Probably a little too over the top to be the chosen one, so we’ll see who we end up with.

Though I didn’t love this episode, I watched it a second time and decided I liked it. My favorite part was probably when Booth was trying to open the elevator by himself and Brennan suggested it must have been someone stronger than him. Ha!

Oh, and on a Hodgela note…

    Boo!…still!

I mean, Hodgins was ‘over-the-moon-stupid-in-love with her’…and now it’s like…cool, remember me in the cabin…

Come on! I think the Gravedigger needs to come back and give them a little reminder of what’s important.
