BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Recap: The Oath

Gaeta is a douche. (And that poetic opening illustrated why I will never be a proper TV writer). But seriously, Gaeta is a douche.

In this chaotic yet wonderfully paced episode, mutiny ruled as Zarek and Geata seized power of Galactica. Rosalin gave up on fighting her cancer but ultimately came back swinging in the eleventh hour. Kara smooched Lee, and killed a few people.  And Adama and Bill were left for dead.  How’s that for an hour of TV? Nobody does it like BSG.

While watching this episode a favorite movie quote of mine kept running through my head. Indulge me while I quote some Sorkin here, but I think it holds true: “…in the absence of genuine leadership, [they'll] listen to anyone who steps up to the microphone. They want leadership. They’re so thirsty for it they’ll crawl through the desert toward a mirage, and when they discover there’s no water, they’ll drink the sand.” And of course the counterpart to that is, “People don’t drink the sand because they’re thirsty. They drink the sand because they don’t know the difference.”

With Rosalin defeated and in seclusion, and the appearance of Adama siding with Cylons (who up until this point everyone was taught to hate as their mortal enemy), the people were left desperate and confused.  The despair over the despondent Earth and a fractured leadership made way for an uprising based in fear and fueled by Zarek’s insatiable ego.

I found it fascinating that the writers could layout this story in such a way that we know who is in the right, but at the same time we can also empathize with those fueling the rebellion.  As is the case in our present day world and much of our history, this uprising and fight is not really about what it appears to be on the surface.  This is not about fighting against an alliance with the Cylons, this is about the hopelessness and fear of the people.  Tom Zarek recognizes this fear and exploits it for personal and political gain. But when you to go to war you need an enemy, and for people aboard Galactica their enemy has always been the Cylons - and now that enemy also include Cylon sympathizers.

The “wild and crazy” Steve Martin hosts SNL for a record 15th time (no one else has hosted more) with musical guest Jason Mraz.

Zac Levi, Ryan Hansen & Jesse Spencer ‘Still Have My Heart’

Zachary Levi. Ryan Hansen. Jesse Spencer.  What do these three guys have in common?  Well to start, they are all incredibly easy on the eyes.  All three have been on hit TV shows.  And all three guys currently star in the new music video for Caitlin Crosby’s “Still Have My Heart”.

I stumbled across this video today and loved it!

Great use of the boys in the video, and a catchy little tune. (And Ryan Hansen…I love you!)

AMERICA’S BEST DANCE CREW Goes Britney Spears on Us

This week’s edition of AMERICA’S BEST DANCE CREW was all about Britney…Ms. Spears if you’re nasty. Each of the crews was given a classic Britney tune to choreograph against with the added twist of having to integrate a signature Britney move featured in her videos. It’s Britney, bitch.

Unlike last week when I thought all the crews really brought something special, this week I was only overly impressed by two crews: The Beat Freaks and Quest Crew.

The Beat Freaks
, one of two all female crews, really pushed themselves to create a sexy routine that completely nailed the Britney challenge. To date The Beat Freaks have been known as tough and grimy B-Girls (a welcome change from other all girl crews of the past who have appeared more cheerleading squad than serious dance crew), but this week the ladies femm’d it up and put together a performance that was as tight as it was entertaining. The Beat Freaks were my favorite crew of the week.

Are you shocked that my boys of Quest Crew didn’t rank on top for me this week? Don’t be…they were a VERY close second. These guys are crazy! Their additional challenge this week was to perform blindfolded…what?! They could have easily accomplished their task by simply dancing with the blindfolds for a few seconds and be done with it, but nope…the Quest Crew, being amazing as usual, performed intricate tricks and crazy moves all without seeing. With their choreography, tricks and musicality, I really can’t see anther crew that can beat them in the end. I think these guys have owned it since day one. Am I being biased?
