How Many Episodes Will BONES Have in Season 7?

August 5, 2011 by

Given how many rumors are floating around about how many hours BONES season 7 will be (Fox ordered a full season, but given series star Emily Deschanel’s real life pregnancy, it will be impossible to film all 22 hours), Give Me My Remote took the chance at TCA to try and clarify the show’s status.

“13 BONES this year,” Fox’s President of Entertainment, Kevin Reilly told me after the executive panel at TCA. “13 BONES, 13 FINDER. Because [Deschanel]’s pregnant. We’ve said, if you come back early, we’ll do a few more, but we can’t…it’s just going to be physically impossible to get the full order.”

What do you guys think? Are you okay with 13 episodes?

Sure, I’m cool with it. Life happens, and your children, unborn or not, should come first.

  2. KoleBigEars on August 5th, 2011 2:39 pm

13?!? Geez with so few I may as well just wait til the end of the season and watch them all back to back…

  3. ToZiKa on August 5th, 2011 2:43 pm

I WANT to get to watch more than 13 episodes. But I can totally UNDERSTAND why they can only manage to film about half of a season. Baby Deschanel should always come first!

  4. Lois on August 5th, 2011 2:48 pm

13 is a big let down. I’m not so sure it’s baby and not the Finder that’s holding Bones back.
I agree with Kole – almost not worth watching until all 13 are done.

  5. LaurenZ on August 5th, 2011 2:49 pm

happy to know how many episodes for season 7. do you think FOX will announce if this is the last season or if there will be at least a season 8 before the premiere on Nov. 3rd?

  6. leanne on August 5th, 2011 2:53 pm

Can’t they do some without her???

  7. Kris on August 5th, 2011 2:53 pm

I have no problem with 13 episodes considering it’s for a good reason. However, I will definitely be changing the channel on the Finder episodes. Just my opinion, but they’re not worthy of that slot.

  8. anca on August 5th, 2011 2:54 pm

better 13 than none! can’t wait!!!

  9. Janna on August 5th, 2011 2:54 pm

Oh no, thats not enough :(( Couldn’t you make some episodes more. I mean thats the last season and than only 13 episodes? Thats a really bad ending i think!
Maybe you could change something with the organizing 😀

  10. Mildred on August 5th, 2011 2:55 pm

There should be a few episodes with the squints filling in for her and solving the cases with booth.

  11. Sabrina Tyree on August 5th, 2011 2:56 pm

I would love to have as many eps as possible but Emily’s Health and safety for her and the baby HAS to come FIRST! Congrats!!!

  12. Delere on August 5th, 2011 2:56 pm

All the best to Emily Deschanel. I’ll take as many Bones episodes as I can get. I will not however watch Finder. I really couldn’t stand that ridiculous episode they stuck in last season.

  13. Shawn Ann @ Shawn Ann's World on August 5th, 2011 2:57 pm

Not happy with that at all! Fox has already cancelled Lie to Me, 2nd best show on the network and now we are stuck with just 13 episodes of Bones. Since her character is also pregnant, they could do episodes without her, putting her character on maternity leave.

  14. Jenn on August 5th, 2011 2:57 pm

Eh. After this last season, I’m still on the fence about whether I will watch the new season or not. The character the writer’s have turned Brennan into is wearing away at my loyalty to the show.

  15. Cat on August 5th, 2011 2:57 pm

I wish it was more, but I definitely understand! I’m happy for her and her baby!!! 🙂

  16. Nikki on August 5th, 2011 2:58 pm

13 episodes are fine! She’s pregnant, give her a break! The show never disappoints. Her baby is priority number 1 right now.

  17. Smokey on August 5th, 2011 2:58 pm

Well, in the UK, 13 episodes is a normal season, so this isn’t terribly disappointing to me. If more can be filmed, that’d be awesome, but 13 is just fine for me.

  18. Tiffany on August 5th, 2011 2:58 pm

13 is very few… but the show is worth watching no matter what!!! I was excited to see the end of last season and now to see what comes will be even better! Can’t wait to find out more!!!

  19. nely on August 5th, 2011 2:58 pm

pues 13 son 13 esta bn por mii kon ver algo nuevoo uff pero k sea algo bn echoo

  20. Lola on August 5th, 2011 2:58 pm

Yeah, Idk if it’s worth it to watch it while it’s going on. Ii can totally understand why but I’m not happy about it. She’s pregnant in the show-how’s this going to work? Whatever, I just want it to come back on!

  21. Jessica on August 5th, 2011 2:59 pm

Yea! Bones!! 🙂 I’m fine with 13 IF they come back for a season 8!!!

  22. Michele on August 5th, 2011 3:00 pm

Of course I would love to see more episodes, but Emily needs to be off for the birth of her child, and that is definitely cool with me!! Besides, that’s what reruns on Hulu are for!!!

  23. Sydney on August 5th, 2011 3:00 pm

@Jana… how is she supposed to organize having a baby… at least in a way to make more episodes? That’s utterly ridiculous!

  24. Trish on August 5th, 2011 3:00 pm

I love Bones…I’ll take 13 ove none anyday….you can’t be upset because the Women has a real life…how would we feel if people acted this way with us when we as mothers had children.,…I say congrats to her

  25. JoAnne B. on August 5th, 2011 3:00 pm

I think 13 episodes is the perfect amount for a season. Sometimes I feel there are too many episodes in a season. I think every show should consider reducing their episode counts.

  26. Deb on August 5th, 2011 3:01 pm

I will take all I can get but as a woman I get it!

  27. 1mars on August 5th, 2011 3:01 pm

13 eps, really! This is crazy, wonder how she feels about throwing the cast/ crew out of work for half a year due to her personal life. I guess she is the first actress ever to have a baby.

  28. Katie on August 5th, 2011 3:04 pm

NO!!!! I already missed half the episodes from last season because I couldn’t deal with Hannah. No I only get half again? NOOOOOOOO!!!!!

  29. WENDY G on August 5th, 2011 3:04 pm

13 is ok i can wait as long as theirs more on the way

  30. crmdralvr on August 5th, 2011 3:05 pm

Considering the circumstances, I’m ok with 13. To the person who said to make an episode without her… Ummm the show’s name IS Bones. 😛 I hope there’s another season though. I love Bones and love how she’s grown and progressed through the years. 😀

  31. Cherubmarie on August 5th, 2011 3:07 pm

The guy who plays the Finder seemed pretty funny. I ‘ll check it out. But I’m sure they could have done at least 18 episodes… Get creative on the camera work and flashbacks.

  32. Jim on August 5th, 2011 3:08 pm

I will miss having a full season, but the baby and Emily’s health have to come first.

  33. fee on August 5th, 2011 3:09 pm

i think we have no choice if 13 episodes is ok with us lol but i also think they could finish the rest of them for season 8…that way we all get our bones fix!!!

  34. Teresa Pounds on August 5th, 2011 3:10 pm

Well, I wish it were more because I absolutely love the show, but congratulations to Emily on the new baby. She needs to take time out to enjoy the new little one.
Will look forward to a longer Season 8.
Just hope the show keeps going.

  35. Brandon on August 5th, 2011 3:11 pm

13 episodes is better than none. it was a short 3rd or four season too i can’t remember which one. it was during the writer’s strike. Pregnancy is definitely a good reason for 13 episodes 🙂

  36. Christina on August 5th, 2011 3:11 pm

I am so sad. I am happy for Emily and am sure she’ll be a wonderful mom, but history tells us that after that sexual tension is broken, the show comes to an end quickly. I’ll say this is the last season.

  37. Emma Cunningham on August 5th, 2011 3:12 pm

Well obviously I’d love a full season, but her baby takes priority over the show! That’s not even a question!

I just hope we get to see cute baby pictures. 🙂

  38. Korra on August 5th, 2011 3:12 pm

All those saying 13 isnt enough, relax. True Blood has an average of 13-16 episodes each season but this just means that more plot will be included in each episode. I think it is honorable for them to consider Emily’s health instead of going “we’re doing this with or without you” it shows real heart.

  39. tiffany on August 5th, 2011 3:13 pm

I wish it would be more episodes…but i understand that motherhood and family come first..its a bummer..but i think we shall survive..hopefully season 8 will be longer or come sooner..lol..

  40. Wendy on August 5th, 2011 3:14 pm

Hey, 1mars, are you aware 13 episodes is an average number overseas and for cable? I am sure the “Bones” cast will survive because ED dares to have a baby. S3 had a mere 15 episodes because of the Writers’ Strike.

Did ED put them out of work then, too?

  41. jeanann on August 5th, 2011 3:14 pm

    NO! i want more bones!

  42. lynzy on August 5th, 2011 3:15 pm

I think 13 is really little, however i understand cuz emily is pregnant. But is there a way to make it longer and just do some without her till she comes back and still runt he season to the full allowed amount. I mean there has to be something you guys can do to make it a full season. cuz 13 for a whole season isnt enough and normally is when it starts getting good then just to stop it isnt fair to the viewers idk i think you guys should sit down and brainstrom a way to make it longer.

  43. Mehgann on August 5th, 2011 3:15 pm

13 episodes is fine, but I intensely disliked the Finder and won’t be watching it. I gave it a chance, but it was not very good, imho. However, to each their own…obviously someone liked it or they wouldn’t have picked it up!

  44. kag on August 5th, 2011 3:15 pm

I just discovered BONES last summer in reruns and watched everything I could find to catch up. I’ll be very disappointed if this is the last season.

  45. Wendy on August 5th, 2011 3:15 pm

Christina, per Twitter at the TCA tour, the producers and Fox want Bones to go beyond S7. So, time will tell.

  46. Jo on August 5th, 2011 3:17 pm

NO, no no! I am not ok with this! First we have to wait until November and now only 13 new shows! UGH!

  47. Nikki on August 5th, 2011 3:18 pm

As I long as I get to see all of them 13 new episodes, I’m completely fine with it 🙂

  48. Elaine on August 5th, 2011 3:18 pm

It is a little bumming, but makes perfect sense.
What if they could incorporate that spinoff episode thing again? I liked it. (:

  49. Jen on August 5th, 2011 3:18 pm

I agree with the idea to have an episode or two with the squints working a case alone. Understand the issue with the pregnancy but will take all the Bones I can get!

  50. Johhi on August 5th, 2011 3:19 pm

Oh, c’mon.. 13 is more than just OK. True Blood has only like 13 episodes in every season.. I think that Bones has done more episodes for every season than every other tv show i know.. Maybe Criminal Minds is on the same page with Bones.. (A)

  51. Catherine on August 5th, 2011 3:19 pm

I understand but why can’t some scenes be shot in advance the way they do on other shows? I will NOT watch the Finder because I thought the show/characters were terrible. I would prefer to watch Bones reruns over and over than watch the Finder.

  52. Nikki on August 5th, 2011 3:19 pm

I didn’t really like the spin off episode with The Finder, so I may not really watch that, but yes, Bones is def a must.

  53. Valina on August 5th, 2011 3:22 pm

Hey 13 is ok.There will probably not be a season 8.That will really sink, but babies are a blessing.BONES just isn’t the same without her.Emily and David are who make the show what they are. Without those two or even one less would not be the same. They are like two peas in a pod. 13 is better than nothing Congrat to you, Emily and your future. May you always be greatful for the things you have in life and appreciate life.

  54. Alexandria Harding on August 5th, 2011 3:22 pm

Considering the circumstances, 13 episodes are great, the possibility of more episodes even better. I love Bones but ultimately the health of mother and child should be the first priority. Congratulations Emily Deschanel on your pregnancy best wishes to you and your family from our family.

  55. Paige on August 5th, 2011 3:24 pm

Family first – Congratuations to mom to be!

  56. Maryel on August 5th, 2011 3:26 pm

@ 1Mars Really? So she should put her life on hold for an acting gig? The show is wonderful and if you are a true fan you understand that life happens. What if one of them had gotten ill or had an accident..would we be complaining that that was inconvenient for us fans? I love the show and the way they have developed the characters is amazing. Booth and Brennen are so sweet and sexy together. I adore how they have had her grow. She is becoming ,with the help of her friends and her love a more well rounded complete person. 13 will just have to do. Hey 13 of Bones is worth twice of most other shows.

  57. Lois on August 5th, 2011 3:27 pm

In the real working world that I’ve been connected with, it’s normal to have 6wks of paid maternity leave. Some women do take leaves of absence if they want more…..but that’s without pay.
I don’t begrudge Emily if she asked for that time. I would guess the Bones crew will simply work on The Finder so they won’t lose pay.
Working women have babies…..I’d say every day?? They all manage differently.

Wonder how the Office is handling Jenna’s rl baby?

I say it’s really alters the momentum for the year……2 spurts of shows. Definitely heading toward the end of the series. imo

  58. Libby on August 5th, 2011 3:27 pm

13 is not enough since I only liked about 5 of last seasons episodes. I did not like the Finder and don’t intend to watch. I can only hope that Bones can come back for Season 8.

  59. Kajsa on August 5th, 2011 3:28 pm

I watched last season (all episodes except 5) in a day so 13 is so not okay! I know Emily and the baby must come first but i don’t like it. 😛

And then i’ve been thinking… Can FOX really afford ending both House and Bones at the same time? And then make half the original cast of Glee quit too? Sounds risky to me but that means Bones will return for an eight season? Or am I just trying to keep my favorite TV-show on a little bit longer?

  60. Mae on August 5th, 2011 3:30 pm

No. I would have been happier if they never brought the baby up and filmed Bones before Emily started showing and then resumed filming after she had the baby…or just wait a year until she had the baby and is back on her feet to do season 7. Bones was a strong female lead character but they ruined that for me… 🙁

  61. Wendy on August 5th, 2011 3:31 pm

Again, TPTB want to go beyond Season 7.

    http://twitter.com/#!/TVGuideMagazine/status/99555258702905344

So I doubt this is the last season.

  62. sarah on August 5th, 2011 3:32 pm

It’s totally okay! She’s pregnant, no need to rush her right back to work after she has the baby. Besides, as BONES she is pregnant with Booth and that’s awesome!

  63. Claudia Halm on August 5th, 2011 3:33 pm

Well, that explains why Bones told Booth she was preganant with his child at the end of last season. They are working her real life pregnancy into the script.

  64. hnb on August 5th, 2011 3:34 pm

Ugh I HATE The Finder! I can’t believe they are substituting Bones episodes with that stupid show! I’d rather watch Bones re-runs any day. It sucks there are only 13 episodes. I hope they don’t lose viewers because of that.

  65. Wendy on August 5th, 2011 3:36 pm

HnB, S3 only had 15 episodes; I think it will be okay.

  66. Juan Jose on August 5th, 2011 3:50 pm

I guess real life comes first!!!!! no problem!!!!!

  67. William Pechka on August 5th, 2011 3:52 pm

If Booth had used protection we wouldn’t have this problem.

  68. Lorie on August 5th, 2011 3:53 pm

nooo…13 is not enough. I would rather them have a few w/out her than have so few….why can’t they just have her character in hiding for a few episodes while the new killer is on the loose and pretend she is helping out w/ phone calls where you don’t see or hear her…..and the finder…hated the bit they showed in the one epi so will be watching something else at that time…wonder how long paint takes to dry…..

  69. Mandy Pereira on August 5th, 2011 3:54 pm

come on!? 13? i understand shes pregnant but 13? thats not a season at all especially with baby bones coming on? the fans were expecting this season to be the best cuz of that and now they shortened it wayyy too much. agreed. we mind as well wait till all of them are done and THEN watch them.

  70. Vampire Princess on August 5th, 2011 3:57 pm

<3 LOVE <3 BONES!!! While I would live more then 13 episodes, I would much rather have those 13 then none at all!! Cant wait for BONES!! Hope they come back for many more seasons after the 7th!!!

  71. Tia on August 5th, 2011 4:22 pm

I’m fine with 13 eps. Like everyone else has said the baby comes first…..but I have a question How are they working the pregnancy into the storyline? Is it going to be Booth’s baby or someone else???????

  72. Elaine Duncan-Moore on August 5th, 2011 4:26 pm

13 is my fave #.. Motherhood comes afore ANYTHING ; ) So you go Emily.. Hope to see you when your family is complete..We will miss you and wait for your return ..Up yer kilt, Elaine

  73. lINDA on August 5th, 2011 4:35 pm

Totally fine with it. I just hope they will have a season 8, a show this good, should be kept on as long as possible. So many lousy shows out there but Bones rocks!

  74. Olivia on August 5th, 2011 4:42 pm

1max– What do you want her to do, pop out the baby on set? Then keep filming? Both Emily and David expressed their desire to work throughout the summer to get the show to a full season, however, the writers hadn’t scripted anything, so they had nothing to work off of (and since they’d known Emily was pregnant for a while, they should’ve prepared better). The only problem is that the baby was concived at an awakward time, so that it’d be born while the show was airing. There isn’t anything she could do about that. David and the others have sucessful careers and I doubt they’ll suffer not being compitated for a few eps. Deal.

@Mandy– Merlin (and many other UK shows) have only 13 episodes per season. Thus, every episode is tight, and there aren’t random awkwardly placed filler eps. This’ll force the writers to step it up a bit, which’ll be good. Anyway, we get 6 eps in a row, then a break, and then we’ll get the 7+ after that… Chill.

@William Pechka– Yes, a fictional character not using protection is the reason why the show is getting a minimum of 13 episodes. Sure… O.o They decided to impregnant Brennan before/when Emily got pregnant, but… Yeah… I”m hoping that was a joke?

  75. carolyn on August 5th, 2011 4:47 pm

bones did not have to be pregnant becaused emily was.

  76. Emma on August 5th, 2011 4:48 pm

13 episodes are Not enogh!, but cosidering the pregnancy of Emily, i think it would be Ok.
and it will be better than Nothing.

  77. carolyn on August 5th, 2011 4:50 pm

I feel sorry for bones being pregnant by booth.

  78. Shary on August 5th, 2011 5:04 pm

I am happy with 13 because I am happier for the newest blessing in Emily’s life. Regular networks never make 22 shows per season and some seasons go on strike. Color me blessed to see as many as Emily and baby can give.

  79. kerrilou on August 5th, 2011 5:08 pm

Congratulations emily all the people moaning because there may only 13 be grateful for those awesome episodes emily and the babys health should definatly come first

  80. Wanda on August 5th, 2011 5:27 pm

Life happens. I pray she and the baby are healthy and will watch every episode as I love the show. I am just glad to see it is back on. There is enough garbage on television, it would be bad to loose one of the great shows entirely.

  81. Peggy on August 5th, 2011 5:39 pm

I,m a huge fan of Bones,I would love to see 22 episodes, 13 is far better than no episodes at all. I don’t look forward to the day the series ends as all good things do. I hope she has an easy birth and a healthy baby.

  82. Amy on August 5th, 2011 5:39 pm

13 is better then nothing. Is it true that this will be the last season? I hope not Bones is my fav. and they are just starting to get to the good stuff with her and booth.

  83. Amy on August 5th, 2011 5:58 pm

Only 13 is a real bummer.. Though I understand to a certain degree. But, why not expand on the other characters and let them shine through while “Bones” is out on leave. They have such a great cast of characters; it would be cool to see more underlying stories.

  84. Wendy on August 5th, 2011 6:00 pm

Where are people getting it is the last season. It was said at TCA TODAY via Twitter that the producers and Fox wants the series to go on. (It will be up to the actors, then, to re-sign.)

  85. Ann gregory on August 5th, 2011 6:36 pm

She’s having a baby I get that, but still 13 sucks! I love bones it’s my saving grace for all the horrid overdone reality tv shows. Do something where you have episodes without her or just her face talking to the squints from bed rest. Brennan is awesome she could do that stuff from bed, she’s uber smart. As for the finder episodes, screw you fox! Worst idea ever totally will not watch them. Please dear god when you sell the next season dont sell the two of them together!

  86. Jennifer Q on August 5th, 2011 6:42 pm

I think 13 episodes would be fine. It would be nice to see more since I look foward to the show. It would be neat to see her bring her own baby onto the show for a little while until he/she gets older and will need a new baby replacment. I mean how great I would have loved to have my baby at work after the 6 weeks of leave! 🙂

  87. Linda K on August 5th, 2011 6:49 pm

Children are ALWAYS first!!! 13 episodes are better than no episodes! Good Luck to mommy 🙂

  88. Megan on August 5th, 2011 6:53 pm

13 episodes is great. Children definitely take precedence over a tv show. I’d be shocked if the show isn’t picked up for another season after this one, and we can be treated to a full season then. Good luck to Mama Bones!

  89. Shae on August 5th, 2011 7:00 pm

13 is cool with me. As long as they can do the other 13 in the future and just break season 7 into 2 short seasons like they did with the show SouthLAnd on TNT. Or just make a season 8 for sure

  90. Mandy on August 5th, 2011 7:03 pm

13 sounds little by comparing to other seasons, but since Emily’s pregnant, her baby is more important than watching bones, even though I love bones so much. ♥

  91. Crystal on August 5th, 2011 7:57 pm

I really cant believe some of these comments. The baby and Emilys health needs to come first so you should be thankful that she can do that many. I absolutely love Bones but not enough to complain because they arent doing enough episodes when she has a baby coming! These people must not have kids!!!!

  92. Little Bit on August 5th, 2011 8:03 pm

I agree with Korra, all of those that are sayin 13 eps is to little, most of the new shows are only 13 – 16 eps long…. 13 Bones and 13 Finder is still 26 eps in total so its still going to be a lot of work for her to do while preggars.

  93. luvyaca on August 5th, 2011 8:07 pm

I can’t believe, in the day and age of computers, and technology that they couldn’t have planned ahead and maybe started filming episodes after they wrapped up last season’s episodes? Of course she deserves time off for her and her new baby but other shows manage to run full seasons and they could have her voice on phone calls as the squints check in with her periodically. Or have someone annoying like Daisy take over for the time Bones is away and everyone is secretly desperate for Bones to hurry and come back! There’s always a solution, it just takes people to think and pre-plan sometimes!

  94. Chris on August 5th, 2011 9:36 pm

really only 13 episodes? well what are you gonna do? How about this, i’ll settle for 13 if i get to meet BOTH Deschantel’s. really tho I love you Zooey!!

  95. Abby on August 5th, 2011 10:38 pm

OMG!!! Congrats on the baby!!! But “only” 13 episodes is a letdown…. Certainly wish that you guys could find a way to do more!!! But baby definitely does come first!!! Good luck!!! Many Blessings!!!

  96. Marian on August 5th, 2011 10:42 pm

As long as there is a 7th season I’ll live. I’m psyched!!!!!!!!!!

  97. Linda on August 5th, 2011 11:12 pm

I’m disappointed only 13 episodes…but it is for a good reason. I just hope there will be a season 8. And as far as shooting episodes without Emily Deschanel, sorry but the show is called BONES for a good reason!

  98. Doris on August 5th, 2011 11:56 pm

BONES is total enjoyment. 13 episodes is better than none. Please give us a season #8. Best of luck to Emily re: the birth of her baby.

  99. Becki on August 6th, 2011 12:22 am

i think 13 is fine, maybe that means there won’t be as many “filler” episodes. and if it does go further, maybe season 8 will have extra episodes (like season 4 did after the writer’s strike)

  100. Anna on August 6th, 2011 1:42 am

GONGRATS! Emily on the baby, best wishes…yours & the baby’s health is far more important. Looking forward baby deschannel making a guest appearance on the show ;o) I’m thankful of getting those 13 episodes, I rather just get 13 well written episodes than twenty-something rushed & badly written ones *QUALITY instead of QUANTITY*

  101. Yves on August 6th, 2011 2:18 am

13 épisodes c’est pas mal ,mais le plus important est que les scénaristes arrivent à gérer convenablement la grossesse d’Emily ,sinon ils risquent de bousiller la série

  102. Lexi on August 6th, 2011 2:26 am

You know how everyone talks about the Moonlighting curse, most of that wasn’t due to them getting their main characters together. It had to do with them trying to work around a pregnancy by shooting the two main characters at two different times and on opposite sides of the country, this kills the chemistry because the actors have nothing to work off of. I would much prefer Bones to remain faithful to the what makes the show great.

One of the things that the show is pretty famous for is the number of babies the writers and production team have had. I think this gives them a great amount of respect for their actresses. Speaking as a student of post production, it’s somewhat rare in television to have respect for peoples personal lives. I like to believe that this respect will be visible in the work that they do. There is nothing worse then watching an actor who didn’t want to be working, which could happen with a mom who wants to be home with her newborn.

The 13 episode they do make will be planned as 13 episodes. That means the story arcs will be complete unlike the ones from the writer’s strike year. If you study the Bones season structure you see episode that deal with big themes and then “filler” episodes that could be placed pretty much anywhere in the season. I have a feeling we will simply see less filler. Another advantage is the theory that the outside pressures in creating, like a shortened season, make people thing outside the box. This allows more interesting ideas to come to the forefront. It’s kinda like a river, if nothing got in it’s way it would be perfectly straight, but it hits rough spots and has to find a different path and thus creates a more interesting river.

  103. Fiona on August 6th, 2011 2:26 am

i think 13 is fantastic. Emily is pregnant and of course the baby comes first. i’ve had 2 miscarriages, so i know how important it is to take care of yourself and the baby. everyone that thinks it’s not enough just needs to calm down. although i would really like to see a Season 8. i highly doubt they’d quit after these 13 episodes though, because of 1.) the huge fan base, and 2.) well, they need jobs. xD but yea, i believe we’ll see more after this season.

  104. Kat on August 6th, 2011 5:48 am

13 episodes its ok considering the situation!!Family must come first always….As for the Finder episode I really hope they will change their mind and not put it in after all….I was bored to death last season with it because the show is Bones not Finder!!!and I hope that I am the one who misunderstood the article and that the last episode will not be the one with the Finder!!!(“13 BONES, 13 FINDER.)

  105. Emma on August 6th, 2011 5:51 am

13 episodes is MORE than OK I’ll take all the episodes i get but I love Emily and I want her to have time with her baby and she will be gone what like 1 or 2 MONTHS?! That’s NOTHING in sweden most parents are home like 1 or 2 YEARS.
AND stop complaining about 13episodes! This isn’t Emily’s fault this is the writers fault bcz they didn’t have any material for the cast when season 6 was done.
    Life happens deal with it!

  106. Maureen on August 6th, 2011 7:08 am

I totally understand that real life, such as pregancy and pregnancy leaves do occur and I wish Emily Deschanel all the best for a health pregnancy and baby. Bones is one of my favourite show and I can never seem to get enough of it. I must admit that this was for all of the seasons except for season six which was absolutely terrible with the whole Hannah story arc. I really hated it. It seems that the writer’s only woke up after they go rid of Hannah. Sole exception was the Doctor in the Photo. I would rather 13 stand alone episodes for Season 7 of Bones with a hope that there will be a Season 8. As I am in the middle of hiatusitis to think that there might only be 13 episodes of Bones would be heartcrushing. I really hated the episode of the Finder that was backdoored as a Bones episode and I have not interest in watching it. It would have been nice to have had a few more episodes of Bones with some of the squints taking over for Brennan. It would have been really cool if somehow they had Zack back to fill in for Brennan as Brennan I expect would also be on maternity leave.

Here’s hoping the HH, SN et al see these comments and give the fans something to look forward to.

  107. Bonnie on August 6th, 2011 7:32 am

I am fine with any new ones!! I love this show and pray that there will be many more seasons. Emily deserves her special time.

  108. K on August 6th, 2011 8:47 am

@luvyaca – They wrote Emily’s pregnancy into the storyline. In an interview Emily said she was willing to spend her hiatus filming S7 episodes. That was the plan, but Bones got a late renewal from FOX due to some negotiations on the business aspect of the show (licensing, etc). Without the renewal, the writers could not pen scripts; consequently the show could not go into production, despite the actors’ and production crew’s willingness to continue filming even after S6 wrapped.

You cannot say that they had no plans on how to handle Emily’s pregnancy. Hart Hanson said in an interview in May that he pitched 7-8 ideas to the studio/network on this, with having a number of Emily/Brennan-less episodes as one of the options. I do believe that the TPTB studied and weighed in all options before deciding that it just is not viable for the show to have Brennan-less or Brennan-light episodes – the character, after all is the lead in the show. Ultimately it is really the TPTB that has the final say on this. So their solution: curtailed season, film as much episodes before Emily goes on maternity leave (She’s due late September or early October), late premiere for uninterrupted run of those episodes before the Christmas hiatus, run the The Finder episodes while Bones resumes production of the rest of the episodes after the Christmas hiatus.

  109. Amanda on August 6th, 2011 9:41 am

I have recently been turned on to the show. I have fell so much in love with the show that I changed my major in college to Forensic Pshcology and Minor to Forensic Anthropology. I find these careers to be very interesting. I know it will not be like the t.v. show but I will be very much loving the fact of helping solve crimes. I can not wait for season 7 to air. I also think that this show should continue for a long time. Bones and Booth should be a couple on the show. I don’t see any reason why they shouldn’t be a couple and partners.

  110. alejandra on August 6th, 2011 11:26 am

mientras los capítulos estén bien elaborados y contengan de todo(amor (booth y brennan), acción, risa) no serán malos y me conformare con 13 (no es cantidad es calidad)
while the chapters are well thought out and contain everything (love (Booth and Brennan), action, laughter) are not bad and I’ll settle for 13 (not quantity is quality)

  111. kris g on August 6th, 2011 11:58 am

13 episodes is better than none. i could always replay the first 6 epis of season 7 after it goes on a break to give way for Emily’s maternity leave. I have 100% belief that this show will go beyond season 7 or 8! This is the best show i’ve ever watched. You get every genre in just one show! And who doesn’t enjoy the crazy, cute & very witty bickering/banter between Brennan and Booth?

To have an episode of Bones w/o Brennan just won’t do for me!

And as for people saying they hate season 6 because of Hannah, i think that’s kinda foolish. Booth & Brennan’s characters needed those experiences to grow and realize just how much they love each other. Albeit its heart crushing to watch Brennan in those episodes with Booth/Hannah, i kinda understand and its more realistic that way.

Now that Brennan & Booth are finally together (sort of anyway hehehe), i am gonna sit back and enjoy every single episode of season 7. if i can wait 6 months of no Bones show this year, heck i can survive Emily’s few months maternity leave. But I don’t think I can handle if this show will come to an end, i dont even wanna think about it!

Hehehe i think i’ve already said too much but i just love this show esp Brennan and Booth!

  112. Cheri on August 6th, 2011 12:09 pm

13 is good. Frankly, it’s about 5 more than I was expecting.

  113. WTM on August 6th, 2011 12:59 pm

All the best to Emily on the birth of her child, but it’s a farce, IMO, to think that these thirteen episodes of BONES are about family. This situation isn’t about the fact that Emily’s having a baby, It’s about the commitment that FOX has made to make money. As a network, FOX has committed to the World Series, Simon’s Cowell’s X-Factor, American Idol, Terra Nova, and The Finder. I just read somewhere else that the network has yet to find a slot for Kiefer Sutherland’s new project. Then there’s HOUSE, GLEE, FRINGE, Zooey Deschanel’s new show, and I’m sure a few more series that are not coming to mind. This network has only two hours of priimetime programming to slot a night, and it wants to air ALL of this programming. Where’s it supposed to go?

FOX doesn’t want fans to think about the fact that it gave Bones a late renewal, meaning that nothing was written so that it was impossible for Emily to work during the summer hiatus. That was a FOX decision, but they want fans to say, “It’s OK because Emily’s pregnant.” When September comes and you find yourself missing Bones and not liking X-Factor? “It’s OK because Emily’s pregnant.” In January, after about the third episode of The Finder (which will likely be awful), but you know that ten more episodes are coming after it? “It’s OK because Emily had a baby.” FOX wants fans to say that mantra for as long as they can get away with it. Ohm…Ohm…

I want Emily to have a happy, healthy baby. I want her to enjoy her maternity leave. However, I do not buy the FOX spin that one woman’s pregnancy, even if she is a star of a show, is causing the chaos that FOX wants you to believe that it has. FOX overpromised, overscheduled, and underplanned, but that’s not nearly as cuddly an excuse as “It’s OK because Emily’s pregnant.” Ohm…

“It’s REALLY OK because FOX wants to make LOTS of money.”

  114. ann on August 6th, 2011 1:07 pm

Guess we will have to except 13 but would love to had the 22..I just hope 13 are really good and it will show more of Booth and Brennan relationship and how they handle it…Nov. 3 is so far away….

  115. Renata on August 6th, 2011 5:21 pm

Come on! Just 13! I want more! It’s not cool!

  116. Kenny on August 6th, 2011 6:22 pm

I am perfectly fine with that. It’s understandable, Emily & her child have to come first. Don’t get me wrong, I would love a full season but it’s okay.

  117. mirry-bones on August 6th, 2011 7:33 pm

I’m pissed we have to wait like two more months then it should be and we get less shows thats gay but i guess it’s cool that shes having a baby but it’s not cool that shes having it with the other david guy i hate him not to be rude or anything . I LOVE BONES ANYWAY oh they should have 100 eps in the one year that they have to make the shows now that would be AWSOME !!!!!! can’t wait till Nov.3 sooooooooooooo far away :):(

  118. Rosalie on August 7th, 2011 5:31 am

I can totally understand that. Cuz Baby Emily is more importent than everything right now. And 13 episodes, i know it’s REALLY too short, but doesn’t that mean there’s another season may come ??? Beside, this is gonna be the best season, right ? Bones & Booth & a lovely Baby , can’t wait 🙂

  119. Maer on August 7th, 2011 5:24 pm

There’s no reason she couldn’t do both. Lots of mothers go back to work within 3 months of having a baby. They have the funds to keep the baby on set with a nanny while Emily is working. It shouldn’t be an issue.

Having a baby is a normal state of being for the majority of women; unless she has health issues during or after her pregnancy she’s no different from the millions of mothers in the same boat. We can take it (although personally all I wanted to do was lie on the floor watching my children blink and coo).

Hopefully Finder will be entertaining enough to hold us over until Bones is back on track.

  120. wister on August 7th, 2011 10:01 pm

I think her child comes first. Being a mom is exhausting, She needs the time to bond and cherish her child. Congrats. The show will be great.

  121. Blue on August 8th, 2011 9:05 am

Why not just bring Zack back!!?? I was pissed when they got rid of zack.. and now this crap? They should have found another way to write the rest of the season without her.. Maybe booth can play off oh shes home with the baby.. eh.. This is crap. But I am happy for Emily and congrats to her and her new addition. Will there be a season 8!??!

  122. kdog on August 8th, 2011 11:32 am

Are they TRYING to kill this show? The producers, writers, etc really need to remember all the shows that have passed before, that lost all there fan base because of cheezy plot gimmicks and taking liberties with their schedule. There are OTHER shows to watch in Thursday nights you know…..

  123. xkat7x on August 8th, 2011 5:29 pm

I we should be happy for Emily that she’s having a baby. This is her job and everyone has to take time away from work to deliver and care for a baby. 13 episodes is fine. =]

  124. #1FANofBONES on August 8th, 2011 5:44 pm

I think you should do 15 episodes but family is much much more important than tv. if she can do 15 episodes that would be great. 🙂

  126. Penny on August 9th, 2011 7:07 pm

Well we get what we get. I would say last season there were far less than 13 great episodes so if they can manage to keep some quality up for these 13 then i will enjoy it. Looking forward to it, tho slightly scared after last season… luckily there is Castle, Mentalist, Doctor Who.. all of those are in fine form & should be spectacular this season… so i will survive.

But yeah just as long as they ***DO NOT*** add little bits (or big bits) of FINDER into those few BONES episodes. Cos Finder just straight out sucks.

  127. Perniketi on August 9th, 2011 7:58 pm

They could, if they wanted to expend any effort, make the show work with intermittent Emily appearances. Booth could do a flashback episode about his recent army time, maybe solving a local murder there. They could do a flashback on each person during their year off.. we’d love that.
So many good ideas are there, they just don’t want to spend the time/money/effort.

  128. Stephanie on August 10th, 2011 12:29 pm

I agree with most others. Emily (and baby) come first! Although, can they do some episodes without her? Maybe have someone try to fill in for her while she is out on a trip to who knows where (in the show of course).

  129. Mel Drake on August 11th, 2011 3:25 pm

Congrats Emily! I am glad that you are having a baby! I don’t mind that there is only 13 episodes. I am just waiting to see Sweet’s face once he finds out the Bones is pregnant with Booth! All through every season he was in he kept saying that they had a love life together but the kept telling him otherwise! SWEETS IS GONNA FREAK! I may be only 14 but I am a BIG FOLLOWER of Bones. I can’t wait for Nov. 3rd!

  130. Brent on August 12th, 2011 6:55 am

well good on the 13th one send her on vacation let some one else take over and if they do better than keep them if not bring her back next season or not at all . it dont matter she letting movie go to her head she is not real like she use to be poor actress now.thinks she is the only one can do the show.

  131. Michelle on August 15th, 2011 11:19 pm

I’m not happy about thirteen episodes. Whatever happened to “The show must go on”?

It’s not that I’m against people having babies, or people not working during, or after pregnancy. I’m so happy for Emily and her family. Happy, happy, happy. If she doesn’t want to work, that’s cool. Let her come back when she’s ready. I’m against the season being cut short because someone’s having a baby.

Were there no other options? Couldn’t the show go on without Deschannel/Brennan? There are enough “squinterns” as Booth calls them for them to go on without her. I still care about the other characters on Bones and want to know about their lives. If the producers think that I still feel like only Bones can save the day they are mistaken.

Other actresses have gotten pregnant and their shows didn’t suddenly stop. Hell, an actor died in recent years and the show he was part of didn’t stop. Sure, it wasn’t a leading role, but a person died and the show went on. In the early seasons I would have argued that without the character Bones there wasn’t a show Bones, but now there are so many wonderfully formed characters there is so much more to the series. It’s a shame.

Thirteen episodes. Man, they had better be DARN good episodes, the best this series has ever seen, every single one.

  132. Joanne K on August 16th, 2011 9:35 am

A lot of these comments make me laugh! We should remember that there was no break in between filming of seasons 6 and 7 and so, for most of the crew and cast, they have been flogging themselves for over a year. On top of that, Hart has a new show to pull together as well. I am dubious about The Finder but I’ll give it a chance, but frankly 13 Bones eps will be great, even with a break in between them. It’ll feel like forever until we get them here in the UK anyway so it’ll make little difference to us! A lot of series make shortened seasons now which means we get a wider range of shows to choose from. Failing that we can always dig out the DVDs.

  133. Linda on August 26th, 2011 3:55 pm

Will there be a season 8 of bones?

  134. Alivia on August 27th, 2011 4:04 pm

13 IS FINE i would be happy if they only had 5 episodes! STOP COMPLAINING! she has a life! I love bones but have we all forgotten its JUST A TV SHOW???? none of the lives on there are REAL! she is pregnant and has a REAL life! YOU ALL SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES! ITS FAKE ITS NOT REAL ITS A SHOW SOMETHING U WATCH IF YOU HAVE THAT MUCH TIME ON UR HANDS TO COMPLAIN ABOUT IIT U MIGHT WANNA FIND A JOB

  135. Ric Opalka on August 27th, 2011 4:10 pm

Here’s my 2 part dumb question:

    a) why not air 2 episodes a week (one airing could be a replacement for a series that will inevitably fail)
    or
    b) why not end the season late?

Either way would allow for more than 13 episodes

  136. Alivia on August 27th, 2011 4:12 pm

how would they do that with only 13epidsodes?? once they set an amount of episodes its set in stone its NOT GOING TO CHANGE

  137. Vanessa on September 7th, 2011 2:49 pm

I think 13 is to short -BUT since it’s for the baby I think we all could live with that!! I really miss watching it!! I totally agree with Alivia ! Booth and Brennen are just actors and THEY TOO have lives to live!!! I’m a faithfull watcher and love to watch the reruns to -BUT everyone is entitled to a little privcy and time for family!!!

  138. Dawn on September 7th, 2011 5:36 pm

I am so looking forward to seeing the new seasons & disappointed about only 13 episodes, I do understand that babies do make it difficult especially when working. I never miss a episode & have been waiting for Booth & Brennan to get together since the show started. I hope that there are at least 2 more full seasons after this one as well. I have to say that the characters or all wonderful , but would have loved to see Booth & Brennan throughout the pregnancy , like Angelia & Hodgens. So I can’t Wait too see how it’s gonna be.

  139. Kathrine Zeta on November 28th, 2011 11:37 pm

Ok so ya its disappointing because we are use to long seasons and having a new episode every week, but what does that say about us? That we care about a fictional show over reality? I love Bones and its because of the characters; the characters that have lives beyond the scrips and scenes. Emily, and any other mother, should never have to plan their life around whats convenient for others. Plus, half the time it happens its unplanned. Yes it would be kind of cool to get some episodes of the other characters but sometimes people don’t think about those things until its too late. I am just happy there is even a season and that Emily is even acting right now. She could have taken leave and delayed the season even longer, but she didn’t, so for that we should be thankful. I just hope there is at least a season 8 because I would just love to see “Brennan” with the baby…could make for some really funny scenes:)

  140. Ari159 on January 11th, 2012 12:52 pm

I think it’s retarded that some people were proposing to shoot episodes without “Bones”. You can’t have a show without the main character!

  141. Christine on January 16th, 2012 6:28 pm

Well, since she is pregnant it’s a must. It’s not like she can help when she’s going to have the baby. But it is a little disappointing since I love Bones SO much! Congrats Emily!

  142. Breaa on January 18th, 2012 5:27 am

its called bones guys…there cant be a bones without bones..(dr.brennan)…besides…she sees things that the squinterns often dnt. shes needed. thirteen episodes is great however u decide to watch em. jus bring on real life little emily nd bone baby booth-brennan. <3

  143. Pamela on February 4th, 2012 5:11 pm

I have to say, I’m a little irritated at her for getting pregnant..lol I know it sounds awful. And I feel awful saying it, but it’s a little irresponsible. Especially since I heard this will be the last season they are doing, and it’s only going to have 13 episodes?! What the hell is that shit… Also, the show could have made episodes without her, just send her off to her Dads or something or at a family members while boothe and the squints work on the cases. I’m tired of this crap happening to my shows… Like spernatural too, We wait all summer for the new episodes to come and then they have a hiatus period from like a week before thanksgiving until like January or february. What the fuck is that? lol but of course God Forbid they miss an episode of Jersey Boar. ( mispelled on purpose) or any other retarded show like vampire diaries and whatever crap they come out with that I refuse to watch. Emily….. USE YOUR HEAD!!! lol and writers…. GET MORE CREATIVE!!! LOL that is all.

  144. Molly on February 19th, 2012 1:50 pm

No other show has worked around an actress’s pregnancy like this one has. The viewers should not have to go without, just because she is pregnant. There are plenty of ways they could have filled in for her absence. I find this very stupid and I am quickly losing interest in the show.

  145. sarah on February 19th, 2012 9:51 pm

well i love the show no matter what and im fine with only haveing 13 episodes as long as they show the baby in some of the episodes because babies are soooo cute

I’m cool with 13. I mean they only have the sets for so long before other shows need to use them and since they’ve already have the good to go for season 8 its NBD at all and the finder is a pretty funny show so theres something to enjoy as well.

It sort of feels too complicated and extremely extensive for me. I’m taking a look forward in your subsequent publish, I’ll try to get the cling of it!
