AMERICAN IDOL – Who Made the Top 13?

March 1, 2012 by

After two months of watching IDOL hopefuls give it their all for the judges and the cameras, tonight the votes of the viewers (and a few saves from the judges) let us know which singers will be making it on to the stage as part of AMERICAN IDOLS Season 11 Top 13. Oh and Jimmy Iovine’s truthiness makes us all question why he’s not on the judges panel.

Check out who made it and who was left behind.

AMERICAN IDOL Top 10

  • Phillip Phillips – Hell of a singer. Reminds me a bit of Kris Allen. An early favorite for my S11 IDOL boyfriend. I can’t be alone in this, right?
  • Jessica Sanchez – My favorite girl so far. What a voice coming out of that little body. If she doesn’t make it to the Top 5 I’ll be shocked. But then again Pia Toscano, so…
  • Hollie Cavanagh – Um, see comment above minus the part about the Top 5. If she can find a way to really differentiate herself moving forward I might change my tune.
  • Joshua Ledet – Wowza! This guy can SANG! I really hope Joshua can handle different genres with the same kind of attack.
  • Heejun Han – His voice still surprises me. Am I crazy to think that his little comedy bit and disrespect to Jimmy Iovine could work against him?
  • Shannon Magrane – Miss American Idol made it to the Top 10. I was nervous her entire performance this week, just waiting for her to push too far and crack. But she didn’t. So good for her.
  • Skyler Laine – Country bumpkin’ but it’s authentic so it works. A few solid performances from her and she doesn’t have to worry about winning IDOL because she’ll definitely be a country start
  • Elise Testone – Powerhouse voice. Such depth. I like this girl.
  • Colton Dixon – He didn’t do it for me last season, but I saw something new this week. I might be rooting for him.
  • Jermaine Jones – Really? Didn’t see this one coming. But I’m happy. I really enjoy Jermaine’s voice but I didn’t expect his performance to resonate with voters.

Wildcard Contestants

  • Jen Hirsh – “Oh Darling” by the Beatles – Her nerves were evident in her performance. Her voice was shaky and a bit screechy at times. Jen has been a standout to me all season. I think she has the type of real voice that IDOL needs. But the judges didn’t agree with me.
  • Jeremy Rosado (Finalist) – “I Know You Won’t” by Carrie Underwood – Better performance tonight than the other night. This killed nailed it and had me pulling for him completely. I might have teared up. I said might. And by might I mean…I was a bloody mess of tears. The judges kept him around. See, my tears are powerful!
  • Brielle Von Hugel – “Someone Like You” by Adele – I won’t lie – she annoys me. She did early on and continues to do so. She had a nice moment when she hit the final chorus but overall it was eh for me. I’m ok with the judges letting her go.
  • Deandre Brackensick (Finalist) – “Georgia On My Mind” – He has a hell of a range and a crazy falsetto. The control he showed in this performance was fantastic. I didn’t blink twice when he didn’t make the Top 10 but by the end of the performance I was pulling for him. I think Jimmy Iovine can really do something to shape this kid. And I’m glad he’s going to have the chance.
  • Erika Van Pelt (Finalist) – “Edge of Glory” by Gaga – IDOL needs Erika if they are going to try to stay relevant and compete with the likes of THE VOICE. She’s a grown-up singer with a real voice. LOVE her! The judges vote her back in and I’m a happy girl.
  • Reed Grimm – “Use Me” by Bill Withers – Here’s my problem with Reed. I like hearing him sing but I can’t watch him. When I look at him performing I can’t help but see Taylor Hicks 2.0. Seriously he is a Taylor fanboy? His wildcard performance gave us more of the same – scatting, unabashed exuberance and some great vocals. Only one of these things worked for me.

So that’s your Top 13 folks. You excited?  Anyone you are already rooting for?

I’m very much so pissed that my Johnny Keyser didn’t get sent through and some of the other so called “talent” did!
