KINGDOM: Season 2 Premiere Date Announced, the Cast and Producers Tease What’s to Come

August 9, 2015 by

KINGDOM will return to DirecTV on October 14th at 9 PM, it was announced during the panel’s Television Critics Association.

And though the series — which was picked up for 20 episodes — got a larger order, creator Byron Balasco shared during the panel he has plans for the show beyond that.

“I’m an optimist, so I always tell the story in a way that it can continue,” Balasco said. “We’re just exploring chapters of these people’s lives.”

One of the big moves of this season? Lisa (Kiele Sanchez) and Alvey (Frank Grillo) are having a baby.

“She has a little bit of less patience with the animals she’s in charge of,” Sanchez laughed. But Lisa isn’t wholly thrilled with her pregnancy: “When I slip into Lisa, I’m at odds with this [pregnancy bump] down here.”

Complicating matters is the strained relationship between Lisa and Alvey.

“We’re struggling with that in season 2,” Grillo said. “We have a difficult time [as actors] with how these people are dealing with each other.”

“It has been difficult trying to negotiate…it’s deep and complex, their feelings for each other,” Sanchez added.

Another new relationship this season is between guest star Jessica Szhor’s character, Laura, and Jonathan Tucker’s character, Jay. (Tucker also shared during the panel he’s losing 30 pounds for the show…he’s already down 20!)

“I would say the relationship with Jay and Laura, it plays on a lot of the deep emotional…issues,” Balasco teased. “They’re great for each other, it’s an obsession, and it also has a downside as well.”
