Has Anyone Seen Smallville’s Tom Welling?

I didn’t make it to Fenway Park until the 2nd inning last night. Had I been on time I would have seen Smallville’s Tom Welling throw out the first pitch during the Red Sox/Mets game. Well, at least they tell me Tom Welling threw out the first pitch. I can’t say with any amount of certainty that it was Tom. The Tom Welling I know is a lean, clean cut, fine looking man. The TW that showed up last night? Hmmmm. Superman? Not so much.

Tom Welling

Oh, and my Sox spanked the Mets in what was probably one of the best baseball games I have ever seen!!! Let’s go Red Sox let’s go!!!!

The WB to Say Goodbye by Paying Homage to Yesteryear

As Boyz II Men so eloquently put it, “It’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday”.  But that’s just what The WB will be doing when it ends its 11 year run on Sunday, Septmber 17th.  So how exactly will The WB bid farewell before transitioning to the all new CW?  Warner Bros has annouced that they will be re-airing some of the pilots of the shows that made the newtwork what it is today. Memories of my college days will be in full effect when The WB reairs the first eps of classics  Buffy the Vampire Slayer, AngelFelicity, and GMMR’s personal favorite, Dawson’s Creek.

It’s going to be great to look back at those familar faces when they were just those crazy kids of The WB.  Remember when the too tall girl from the wrong side of the Creek wasn’t synonymous with crazy men jumping on couches?  And oh the lessons we learned about the life altering impact of cutting one’s hair. Of course we can’t forget the peaceful night’s sleep we’ve had since we found out that there was a kickass chick ready to beat down those monsters under our bed.  Yes, the classic WB.  Those were the days. I can’t wait to relive the memories.

My first real TV boyfriend (ok, I suppose Kirk Cameron was my first), Josh Jackson was spotted looking supafine this week at the premiere of Superman in LA. Looks like he left his latest fling, Diane Kruger, at home. Good!!! We just don’t see enough of JJ these days. He needs to find his way back to TV, and fast. Hey Shonda Rhimes, isn’t there a role for my boy on Grey’s Anatomy? McPacey?? Now, that would be nice.

Veronica Mars Season 3 Casting Scoop

Veronica Mars Season 3 Spoilers

According to TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello, Michael Cera, best known for playing George Michael on Arrested Development, will not be appearing on Veronica Mars next season.  Michael Cera and his AD on-screen cousin, Alia Shawkat, both appeared in an important episode of VM last season.  Show creator Rob Thomas had noted that he was asking both Michael and Alia to return as recurring characters during season 3.  However, it looks like Michael Cera has a few movies in the works and his return to Neptune, CA is unlikely.

“We’re very bummed, but surviving,” Rob Thomas tells Ausiello. “We’re hoping to get him in the show after his movie wraps, but the boy has many projects, so we’re not banking on it.”

In other VM casting news, Tina Majorino (Mac) is thisclose to becoming a series regular. This has been in the works for a while, but Majorino’s desire to continue to work on Big Love had made things a bit more difficult.  I guess Mac just isn’t ready to truly say goodbye to Beaver  Cassidy.

Rescue Me Recap

Title: Chlamydia
Original Airdate: June 27, 2006

Last time on Rescue Me: Lou contemplated suicide before shacking up with Tommy. Tommy continued his affair with Mrs. Turbody and had controversial sex with Janet. Probie insisted he wouldn’t go down without a fight. Sean told Tommy he was in love with Maggie, who then told Tommy she had four other boyfriends. Chief’s working at a bar. Franco overshared with Alicia about how he illegally took Keela away from her foster family.

—————————————————————————————————————-

The crew’s over at Tommy’s removing furniture to take over to Janet’s. Sean’s in a bedroom taking a nap because Maggie kept him up all night. Tommy goes in to heckle him, saying that Sean’s a pussy because he didn’t confront Maggie about the ‘four other boyfriends’ thing. Tommy knows Maggie will be pissed if Sean does say anything.

Keela and Alicia have tea at the park. Keela asks if she’ll be going away soon like her mommy did. Alicia tells her no and that she once had a little girl who went away, up to heaven, and she knows how it feels when someone leaves so she won’t go. Keela says “I want us to be together forever.” Alicia says she’ll work on it. I’m going to work on hoping Alicia doesn’t do something sketchy.

As the guys move some of the last stuff out, Sheila stops by and tells Tommy she ran into Angela, Johnny’s ex. Angie’s looking great and doing great. (Knowing that Angela is played by Marisa Tomei, I’m really fighting making a My Cousin Vinny reference. Chances are good that I’ll lose the fight later in this recap. Fair warning.)

Chief stops to talk to his boss at the bar, who is betting on some sporting team…Gonzaga…I’m lost. Chief gets a $100 advance on pay, only to get nudged into betting it all on the competition. Tsk tsk, Jerry.

Star Jones Fired from “The View”

Ding dong the witch is dead. Star Jones-Reynolds announced this morning that she is in fact leaving The View. See ya…don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out. Sorry, but I loathe Star Jones and I am so happy to see that she is finally leaving the show. Although I would have loved to see the sparks fly if she and Rosie were forced to sit at that table together every morning.

Anyway, check out Star’s Emmy winning performance as she broke the news to the audience, as well as her co-hosts (like they didn’t already know..come on now).

(Click the image below to watch Star’s speech over at dlisted.com)

Star Jones Fired from The View

What makes her annoucement so impressive is that she has already been blabbing to whomever will listen that she was in fact fired from The View. Check out what Star told People Magazine about her departure.

“What you don’t know is that my contract was not renewed for the 10th season,” Star tells People. “I feel like I was fired.” Star adds that she was told her contract wouldn’t be renewed just days before news leaked that O’Donnell would be joining The View.

Oh snap. Yeah, The View is moving in a different direction, Star…away from your obnxious, self righteous act.

Update: Babs was none to pleased with Star making her dramatic annoucement yesterday without informing her co-hosts.  I guess they really didn’t know.  According to Barbara Walters, they had planned on canning Star 6 months ago, but it was never the right time.  Also, rumor has it that Star was asked NOT to return to work today.  I’ll be TiVoing it to see how it oes down.  SCANDAL!!!

Battle of the Network Stars – The Band

Battle of the Network Stars

Forget Aerosmith, forget U2, you know the band I’m dying to see live?  Battle of the Network Stars. Never heard of ’em?  I bet you have. You might not see Scott Baio in a bandana, or Farah Fawcett in short shorts, but you will see some of TV’s hottest stars kickin’ in for charity.  Battle of the Network Stars is a band started by Greg Grunberg (Alias, Heroes), to help raise money for worthy charities. So who is jammin’ along side Grunberg?  Well how about his Alias co-star David Anders (vocals), House’s Hugh Laurie (keyboards), Desperate Housewives James Denton (guitar), and Boston Legal’s Bonnie Sommerville (vocals).

Don’t expect to see these guys playing at the local dive.  According to Grunberg they “charge an incredible amount of money to play corporate events”, but if it’s all going to charity, then it’s worth every dime.

Rescue Me Recap

For those GMMRers who came here this week expecting to see a recap of Tuesday’s Rescue Me, I sincerely apologize. GMMR recapper extraordinaire, Julie, is taking a much needed and well-deserved vacation so she was unable to recap this week’s oh so controversial episode. I had hoped to take over recapping duties myself, but between battling a horrific cold and all the hoopla surrounding Papa GMMR’s retirement parties, I just didn’t have the time. But in hindsight, I wish I had made the time, because last week’s episode was definitely the most talked about show of the week.
So by now you’ve probably heard the buzz about the ending of last week’s show. If you haven’t, and don’t want to be spoiled, you should probably stop reading about….now.

If you’ve ever seen Rescue Me, then you know it is one of the grittiest dramas on television today. It’s raw, and often ugly, but there is a truthfulness to the storylines, and characters that is absent from most other shows in this genre. Scared of crossing a line it is not. Knowing all this about Rescue Me, and loving the show for it, I was still rocked by the final scenes of this past week’s episode. What transpired has had message boards in a tizzy ever since. It went something like this….

Tommy Gavin (Denis Leary) had been at his breaking point since learning that his ex-wife, Janet, had been secretly seeing his brother behind his back. Hardly able to speak to her on the phone, Tommy is less than thrilled when Janet calls to say that since they can’t afford a lawyer, they should figure out the terms of their divorce together. Tommy reluctantly goes to Janet’s house. She is negotiating with him on the ownership of the dining room table and chaisse lounges when all of a sudden Tommy flies into an angry rage, throws Janet down on the couch, rips her shirt off, lifts her skirt up, and basically rapes her. However, the way the scene unfolded on screen, it was almost as Janet enjoyed Tommy forcing himself on her. Although Janet never said the words “No” or “stop”, she did physically try to get Tommy off of her when he first attacked her. But moments later she gave in, and seemed to be ok with what was going on. When he was done, Tommy stood up, apologized for ripping her shirt, and left Janet’s house with a smirk on his face – apparently quite pleased with himself. We then see Tommy’s brother (and Janet’s current boyfriend) walk into the house to find Janet, sitting on the couch, flipping through a magazine rather nonchalantly. She managed to quickly change out of her ripped, blood stained shirt before he got there.

I personally found the scene incredibly disturbing to watch. Tommy Gavin is a flawed man – this I know, but raping his ex-wife really brought Tommy to a whole new despicable level, at least in my eyes. And Janet’s reaction was perhaps even more stomach turning. It was almost as if she accepted what happened, like it was just Tommy being Tommy. I was bothered and bewildered by his AND her behavior.

After the show aired, TV message boards all over the internet blew up with chatter about what went down. Many viewers were outraged at what they had just seen. In an interesting turn of events, co-creator Peter Tolan jumped in on the message board chatter (via TWoP) to explain the original intent of the scene. He wrote:

“I’ll admit this is extremely dicey stuff. The idea of any woman ‘enjoying’ being raped is repellent, and caused all of us (and the network) a great deal of concern. But again, these are seriously damaged people who are unable to express their emotions — and so expression through brutality has become expected.”

Tolan has admitted to regretting his decision to get personally involved with the fans online, saying that the online discussions have been “combative”. When asked if he would go back to the message boards soon, Tolan said: “I think I will go back to say I won’t be back.”

The controversy over whether or not Tommy raped Janet is still going strong. Alan Sepinwall, of the NJ Star Ledger and one of my favorite blogs, “What’s Alan Watching” had the opportunity to speak with Tolan and Denis Leary after the episode aired. Leary contends that Tommy didn’t rape Janet. Um, ok. But I’m not sure all the people behind the scenes at Rescue Me are on the same page. Tolan noted in his message board posts that what went down probably did constitute a rape. If the guy that wrote the scene, and the guy that acted it out can’t seem to agree, then maybe the true intent wasn’t known. And for a show as good as Rescue Me, that too is a bit disturbing.

Katharine McPhee’s Battle with Bulimia

katharine mcphee battles bulimia

American Idol runner-up, Katharine McPhee, recently opened up to People Magazine about her 5 year battle with bulimia. The singer said that at her worst she was making herself vomit 7 times a day. It wasn’t until McPhee made it onto American Idol that she decided to seek out help.

“When I made it onto American Idol, I knew that food – my eating disorder – was the one thing really holding me back,” she says. “I was bingeing my whole life away for days at a time … So when I got on the show, I said, ‘You know what? I can do well in this competition. Let me give myself a chance and just get ahold of this thing.”

According to People, Katharine McPhee, with the support of her parents, and her actor boyfriend, Nick Cokas, 41, (yes, Kat has a boyfriend old enough to be her daddy), enrolled at Los Angeles’s Eating Disorder Center of California, where she spent three months undergoing group and individual therapy, six days a week.

These days Katharine has a much better handle on her eating disorder and says to be taking it day-by-day, and thanks American Idol. “American Idol saved my life, because if I hadn’t auditioned I don’t think I would have gotten a handle on food.”

Credit where credit is due…

Ok, so I’m not making light of Katharine’s eating disorder, but I couldn’t help but laugh out loud (mostly in horror) this morning when reading about her struggles in the newspaper. The Boston Herald, the less respected of my hometown newspapers, seemed to be bursting with pride after Kat McPhee admitted that her struggle with bulimia began when she put on 20 lbs during her freshman year at the Boston Conservatory.

You have to read this to believe it…I can’t get over it.

“American Idol” also-ran Katharine McPhee’s five-year battle with bulimia began when she packed on 20 pounds during her freshman year at The Boston Conservatory…. And who does Katharine blame for her ballooning figure? The pizza makers at Boston’s own Little Stevie’s House of Pizza!

“We would (go out), get back to the dorm at two in the morning, have three slices of Little Stevie’s House of Pizza – which were big – and go to bed,” the 22-year-old songbird chirped to People.
But not to worry, the boys at the Boylston Street pizza emporium didn’t take her slag to heart.

“Tell her we wish her the best with the whole bulimia thing and that we’ll be here waiting for her when she decides to come back,” one pithy pie guy told the Track.

“Tell her we wish her the best with the whole bulimia thing and that we’ll be here waiting for her when she decides to come back” ….are you SERIOUS?!

$20 bucks says that the slimeballs at Little Stevie’s come out with a shirt next week that says “Our pizza is so good it led to Katharine McPhee’s eating disorder!”

Amazing. Simply amazing.

For you boys that came here just to see pics of Katharine McPhee….sorry. But check out Pics of Katharine McPhee at FBCG.

Project Runway Season 3 Cast

July 12th to be exact. And July 12th can’t get here soon enough. I can’t believe that this time last year I was a Project Runway virgin. I had heard of the show, but it just didn’t seem to be my cup of team. Oh how I was wrong!! The clothes, the drama, all those gay men pretending they were straight….it was like college all over again. I was smitten with Project Runway from the first moment I turned it on.

Last season was so much fun to watch, although I’m not sure I cared about the fashion aspect of any of it. I just loved the characters. Will there ever be another Santino again? (let’s hope not – one in this world is surely enough). His cockiness was hard to watch at times, but he was so hysterical (“Where’s Andre?”). I’ll miss all my faves from Season 2. Let’s just hope that Daniel Franco doesn’t return…again.

Actually, if you don’t pay close attention you might think you are watching last season’s show. Why? Well, Heidi Klum managed to get knocked up by that Walrus husband of hers. So she’ll be preggs again while hosting. But that woman looks amazing no matter what. She could give birth live on the runway and still look good. God, I hate her.

So in less than a month all the bitchiness and high fashion that is Project Runway will be back. Ready to meet the latest bunch of aspiring designers? Check out the cast list for Season 3.
