Self Indulgence...The High School Years - Give Me My Remote : Give Me My Remote

Self Indulgence…The High School Years

February 3, 2007 by

I’m of a certain age. And girls my age (especially those of us who grew up in Boston) had one thing on their mind in High School. Ok, maybe not one thing…is was more like five things. Their names? Donnie, Joey Joe, Jordan, Jonathan, and Danny. Um, by they way, those names are listed in order of preference. My best friend and I used to trade Donnie and Joe from week to week, because you couldn’t like the same New Kid as your best friend. That’s just wasn’t done.

So for your enjoyment (ok completely for mine and my friends) I thought I would share these videos from yesteryear. See future Boomtown/Band of Brothers/Runaway star Donnie Wahlberg and future Dancing with the Stars contestant Joe McIntyre tear it up Beantown style (see how I managed to bring it back to TV? It was a stretch but I pulled it off)

P.S. I’m VERY protective of my New Kids. Even to this day. So be very careful about leaving comments. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

haha ah! I was in love with Donny 😉 We were destined.. I was going to make him change his bad boy ways.

Oh My God!! I love the New Kids! I was always into Jordan myself…I even bought his solo CD. Anyway, thanks for this post – it made me smile after I just watched my team lose a painful hockey game, and I think I will go and get some NKOTB on itunes 🙂

This is awesome! I remember finding out that Joey and I had the same birthday, so I vowed to love him for all time. A while back I bought their greatest hits album…and I play it with pride.

And I’m with you Deedee…I’m with you.

How funny! I was a big New kids fan back in the day – saw them in concert three times 😛 I remember when I first heard Please Don’t Go Girl on the radio, I thought it was Debbie Gibson singing with New Edition or something – oops.

    Fun times…

I was a HUGE New Kids fan. The walls in my room were plastered in posters from floor to ceiling. I had my very special big Joey poster hanging over my bed.

My 3 sisters and I were huge New Kids fans. Two of us got tickets to one of their concerts and the other two were so jealous until one of them won two tickets in a contest. We all four got to go and it was awesome! I have them on my ipod and I think I’ll go listen. Thanks for this trip down memory lane!

Ok, I’m only 19 and I know almost every word to those songs. (what a great older sister, eh?) absolutely amazing. I made my roommate listen to them to “broaden her musical tastes”. I heart you GMMR.

Tracy sounds like pretty much the same kind of New Kids fan I was.
WOW… even though I knew you were a Boston girl, GMMR, I didn’t expect you to post these videos, but I’m SO happy that you did. This is huge for me.
    (That’s what she said.)

I was a Jordan girl myself. I remember having their video of them in concert and I would play it over and over again and memorize the dance and pretend I was a New Kid. We had a big screen back then and my mom froze my tape when Jordan had his hand out for some reason and I got on the floor next to the TV and put my hand in his. I saw the picture a few years ago and couldn’t believe how silly I was.

That second video is from the video I practiced with. I could totally do all those steps.

I loved Jonathan so much, I figured the 8-year age difference wouldn’t matter. 🙂

  17. Aimee on February 5th, 2007 10:19 pm

I know I loved you for a reason. NKOTB were the best. They were my very first concert. I’m going with Jonathan, Donnie, Jordan, Joey, Danny (poor Danny, always last).

P.S. My second concert was 2nd row at Marky Mark. heh

GMMR…I don’t know if you know….but Danny he be cheatin’ (that’s right I just got ignant lol) He is one of the main reasons why they haven’t reunited or at least performed once. On VH1’s Bands Reunited…he wouldn’t even let his face be shown on camera. Flash forward…he’s joined a new boyband!

For me it’s Donnie, Joey, Jon, Jordan, and Danny (in that specific order). I don’t know why, but Jordan never really appealed to me back then, and esp. not today ever since i saw him on Surreal Life.
