American Idol Recap – Top 8 Ladies Night

After another week of BORING performances from the guys, it’s the ladies turn to shine. Can I just say that American Idol is such a shared experience. Tonight at the hotel bar I bonded with the women next to me over all things Idol, our love for Melinda Doolittle and the fact that Simon is usually right (not matter how hard that is to say). Oh Idol – bringing people together.

So let’s get started shall we? Ryan is screaming metrosexual tonight – even more so than usual.

First up…

Jordin Sparks – Jordin is rocking out to a Pat Benatar song. Ms. Jordin was a little off tonight. She has a great talent, but she missed a few notes. And to be honest the backup singers and the band were overpowering her. That being said she was still better than most of the guys last night. Paula and Randy were all about her and Simon thinks she’ll stick around but that tonight wasn’t her best performance.

Sabrina Sloan – I really like this girl. I think she keeps getting overshadowed by LaKisha and Melinda, but she’s consistently great. Again I was a little distracted by the backup singers, but maybe it was just the levels. This girl can sing, and I’d like to see her to do well with in this competition. Randy was just ok about her. Paula really liked her. Simon thinks she’s a great singer but lacks emotion and personality.

Antonella Barba – Time to bring out the ear plugs people. Sorry but she just can’t compete with the other talented girls. This was one of her best performances but it was still sketchy and I was just waiting for her to miss a note and go off key. If this was week one it might have been an ok, but it’s not enough to get her into the top 12. Neither Paula and Randy weren’t blown away (no pun intended) but they thought she did ok. Simon commended Antonella on how she has handled the media scrutiny but he said she’s gone as far as she can and she just can’t hold up next to the other girls. Oh, who just said that 2 minutes ago? Yeah, that was me.

Commercial break. Just wondering is Paula got work done between last night’s show and tonight’s. Her face looks very tight and her lips look all kinds of fake.

Haley Scarnato – Hmmm. Interesting performance. It’s not like she was horrible, but she wanted to make the song bigger than it was especially at the beginning when the song is a bit smaller. I think it’s a problem that I didn’t even remember she was on the show none the less her name. I think the judges are going to rip her a new one. Let’s see. Randy didn’t think it had pizazz. When Paula pulls out the “you look great” you know you didn’t do well. Simon hated it. OMG OMG…Simon just said “I don’t know you’re name and that’s a problem” Seriously you and me Simon…right here baby.

Stephanie Edwards – I like this girl. I hope she does well tonight. Now this girl can sing and I think she’s going to be around to the very end. She owns the stage and looks very comfortable up there. She has a clean and strong voice. I didn’t love the song because I thought it was a little boring, but she did everything she possibly could with the it. Randy was a little ‘eh’. Paula loved her. Simon says she definitely should be in the final 12.

LaKisha Jones – Girl is taking on Whitney tonight. I’m curious as to what Randy has to say since he just chastised Stephanie for taking on a legend. There’s not debating it – this girl has some serious talent and yet she’s so humble. I thought she was fantastic. The judges were all loving her. Simon even said she looked beautiful.

Gina Glocksen – Starting off with an Evanevance song. I kind of feel like this is her type of music. She’s still shouting everything. I felt like I went to a bar and saw a really good band. It’s weird for me because I really thought her performance was cool, but it just didn’t hold up to the likes of Stephanie, LaKisha and Sabrina. But I liked what she was doing tonight. The judges all had nice things to see, and all thought she picked the right song.

Melinda Doolittle – Here comes my favorite! Do good!! Do good!! God this girl is phenomenal. I feel like there isn’t much to say. She is THAT good. When she’s on stage I forget that this is a singing competition and that she’s not already recording records. Ha ha, I guess that Randy agrees since he says she should be already in the recording studio. Simon “you little tiger”…ha ha. The all loved her as they should.

Well that’s it for the ladies tonight. I don’t think the boys can hold a candle to the girls this season. Sorry I know it’s the “thing” to say, but it’s true.

Favorites…
No shocker here – Melinda and LaKisha with Stephanie and Sabrina not too far behind

Going home? It should be Haley and Antonella. I guess we’ll see.

Hm … I’ve never got caught up in the American Idol world. I do love all the dancing completitions, and America’s Next Top Model, and I love listening to people sing because I can’t and I wish I could … so maybe I should.

I love how you and Simon have the same brainwaves.

Elena, give it another week or two then start watching. There’s some fat this show needs to chew off first.

Kath, are you and Simon sleeping together? Seriously.

kath, i agree with you as to who is good, etc…looove Doolittle, Stephanie, etc. BUT, look at the people on Idol that have actually made something of themselves…Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood….actually, those two are really it. Fantasia was an amazing singer, on the level of Lakisha, Melinda, Stephanie, but it doesn’t seem like people buy those records. It’s POP or COUNTRY….so, they’re good…but are they really the “American Idol”??? I think the guys are a snoozefest, but at least BLake has his own personality/thing going on. I feel like he could sell records.

Totally agree with you. Doolittle is the one to beat but Lakisha is great too. I always get upset when people try to sing Whitney, Mariah or Celine but Lakisha did so good.

If Antonella doesn’t get kicked off tonight, I am going to be upset cause the others are all way better than her…She just sucks! (No pun intended ;o)

My favorites of the night were Gina, Lakisha and Doolittle.

I just really like Gina because she is different, I don’t forget her or her style. I keep forgetting who certain people are, like Haley and even Stephanie. I realize she may not be the best singer, but I like her. Now, I don’t think she is going to win this thing or anything, but I want her to stick around for a long time.

I do have to say though, outside of 2-3 performances last night, I was still underwhelmed. Not like week one.

Going home better be Haley and Antonella.
    Oh and that girl-boy.
