Who Was Voted Off SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE?

July 20, 2007 by

Cat Deely you are killing me. I just finished watching tonight’s SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, and I’m bawling like someone just stole my non-existent puppy. Tonight we had to say goodbye to two more contestants. It was the most important elimination to date as the two leaving tonight will not make the final ten and therefore not be on tour this summer. Cat, being the best host of any reality show ever (yeah you heard be Probst & Seacrest), fought back tears and struggled through the final minutes of the show. See she was on national television so she didn’t really want to cry. Me? I’m in a hotel room in San Francisco by myself so I was free to sob like a child.

So just who did we say goodbye to tonight? Well first we have to talk about the bottom three couples.

Dancing for their lives tonight were Danny Tidwell & Anya Garnis, Lauren Gottlieb & Neil Haskell and Jaimie Goodwin & Hok Konishi.

I must say that I truly thought that all six solos were incredible. The only person that gave me even a moments pause was Neil. Danny and Hok were so incredible that I was nervous that Neil, although beautiful, wouldn’t be able to compare to his counterparts.

For the ladies, Anya really responded to the judges critique last week about her stepping it up on her solo and she did just that. I thought her performance tonight was incredible. Lauren, wow Lauren stepped up her game in a huge way tonight too. If we saw her dance with that intensity all season I wouldn’t have been rooting for her to go home. Jaimie once again dazzled me with her technique and grace. Her dancing teacher, Denise Wall was in the audience. Nigel commended Denise on being such a wonderful teacher, and made mention that she also taught last year’s finalist Travis. As in Travis Wall…her son. It seems that Denise really knows what she’s doing as her adopted son, Danny Tidwell, is also kicking ass this season (even if he is being one as well). I don’t know what’s in the water in Denise Wall’s dance studio but give me a gallon of it to go.

But back to the dancers.  In the end we had to say goodbye to one guy and one girl, and those dancers are…

Hok Konishi and Anya Garnis.

Can you believe it? I’m going to pay all the money to go to the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE tour (and you know I’ll be going) and I don’t even get to see Hok? I’m hoping he’s an alternate brought along for the ride. Something tells me he will show up on a few tour dates.

I’m sad to see Anya go but it had to be one of them. I think that it’s disappointing that Anya has been consistently fantastic in her partner dances all season, while Lauren has been uneven at best with the exception of the Wade Robson routine last week. Both ladies had weak solos in the past, and it seems that everything tonight came down to Lauren’s solo. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, but almost unfair. But I’m not losing any sleep over it. Plus, I’m way too upset to care about Anya when I know that we won’t get to see Hok perform again until the finale.

So ladies and gentlemen, it’s official. Here are you SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE Top Ten Dancers:

Sabra Johnson
Dominic Sandoval
Pasha Kovalev
Sara von Gillern
Danny Tidwell
Jaimie Goodwin
Lauren Gottlieb
Neil Haskell
Lacey Schwimmer
Kameron Bink

Next week then whole contest changes as the original pairs are ripped apart and the dancers are randomly assigned new dance partners. So are there any dream pairings out there right now? Here are mine:

Sabra & Danny
Lauren & Kameron
Lacey & Neil
Dominic & Jaimie
Pasha & Sara (I know they are already a couple but I’d like to see them one more week together).

Well- this is the first week that I actually agree with who they sent home. I am sad to see Hok leave (what a great guy!) but I am not sad to see Anya go home…it was her time.

Looking at the top 10- I do not feel that Sara deserves a spot. She may be entertaining but from a technical perspective, she is very weak and has been carried by her partners through the competition thus far.

Did anyone else find it strange that Nigel acted like he didn’t know who Jaimie’s dance teacher was? It is not a secret that she was from the same studio as Travis and Danny.

I think they tend to downplay the connections between the contestents, choreographers, etc. Heck, they didn’t even show Pasha’s reaction to Anya getting cut, did they? He’s her ballroom partner!

Wow you wrote a lot! Too bad we couldn’t have podcasted this puppy! Cursed San Fran!

Believe me, I’m surprised I wrote at all I was such a wreck after watching this episode. Cat Deely and her fighting back of the tears. I almost called you Ducky but then I remember it was past midnight on the East Coast.

ok so i totally cried last night when I saw the way Lauren and Anya were about to lose it during eliminations. I wish we’d seen Pasha’s reaction as well but I noticed they cut straight to Lacey when Hok was sent home! Aren’t they supposed to be a couple right now? Also I thought, ‘am I imagining this or is Cat on the verge of tears?’ I was so eager to come to GMMR today to be reassured that I wasn’t the only one who A-cried, B-thinks Cat is the best host EVER!!

I was totally in agreement with the judge’s decision to send Anya home. I am upset about Hok. I really wish Lacey and Kameron hadn’t been safe, ’cause then he would have been the one sent home and I would be happy. (And it is all about me.)

I was also sad to see Hok go. He’s a crowd pleaser with his solo work and I think the audience will miss out with Hok not being on tour.

I’m so over Lauren and Neil – they may be better dancers than some, but they irritate the heck out of me. I would have preferred to keep Anya and see what she does with another partner next week.

I don’t know what’s going to happen to Danny in weeks to come. If he’s consistently in the bottom three, I don’t know if voters will keep him around if it’s completely up to them. He better hope to get a good partner and routine next week, otherwise I think he’s dunzo.

Couples I’d like to stay together – Dominic and Sabra (love those two!), Sara and Pasha

I’m interested to see what Kameron can do with a different partner. I think he hasn’t performed to his potential, and maybe it’s Lacey’s overacting that overshadows him.

I love Wade for saying Lauren/Neil shouldn’t have been in the bottom! Their dance was amazing…yes, it was. Watch it again. Next week is going to be interesting. I’m not sure who I’d like to see with who. I do know I want Dom/Sabra and Lacey/Kam to be split up; I want to see their chemistry with other people. Let’s go with Kam/Sara, Lacey/Neil, Lauren/Pasha, Sabra/Danny, Dom/Jaimie.

I would absolutely LOVE to see Sabra and Danny. I am a huge fan of Danny, and I think that having a partner with a personality would really bring out his own a bit more.

I was beyond shocked when Lacy & Kameron were safe. Their performance was not strong at all. I knew right away that Lauren and Neil would not be sent home by the judges b/c they didn’t believe they deserved to be there so I figured it would be between Hok & Danny and Jamie & Anya going home.

I agreed with the judges about the girls, but not the guys. Yes, Danny is a superb dancer, but I don’t think he connects with the audience whereas Hok is a crowd pleaser. Now that it’s going to be completely up to the audience, if Hok had stayed, he could have ended up winning the whole competition and maybe that’s what motivated the judges to send him home, since there are other dancers far more deserving (I’m talking about you Pasha). I also don’t know how I feel about Hok’s little break-out at the end of the show. Everyone else is standing around on the stage hugging and he jumps out with a big smile and starts giving one last performance for the crowd. I couldn’t tell if he was being a good sport or trying to steal the spotlight or just getting in his last licks or what?

Kelly – I don’t agree with you about Sara. I think she’s shown great diversity in mastering all the styles she’s been given and I think I even remember Nigel mentioning that of her and Dominique. I think she’s an amazing dancer and one of my favs.

Well, I think I’ve said my peice. Here’s looking forward to more amazing dancing from the top 10.
