THE FAMILY GUY Emmy Opener - Give Me My Remote : Give Me My Remote

THE FAMILY GUY Emmy Opener

September 17, 2007 by

With all the antics of last night’s EMMY awards I completely forgot about the hilarious opening number by Brian & Stewie of THE FAMILY GUY. Watching it live I think I missed most of the jokes. I think I was distracted by the balls of the Fox directors to cut to T.R. Knight during an Isaiah Washington joke (ouch). But since then I’ve watched it a few times and can’t stop laughing.

Love it or hate it?

Thanks for posting! I missed it last night. Very funny…but hey so is Scrubs! Ryan Seacrest, however, not so much.

Pretty great. By the way, who was the guy Fox cut to after the Scrubs joke?

  4. Becky on September 17th, 2007 2:10 pm

Starsky, that was Jeremy Piven from “Entourage.”

  5. Dan on September 17th, 2007 2:11 pm

That was Jeremy Pivens. He’s from “Entourage”. Don’t know why they cut to him though.

And was it just me or was that Matthew Fox behind TR Knight cringing in agony. But they do get credit for showing Kristen Bell and Maki Osa. Too bad SNF was on, or else I would’ve watched this.

I actually thought the opening was pretty tasteless. I get that it’s all in good fun, but did the EMMYS, which is a celebration of television really need to open with a segment insulting TV? I think the FAMILY GUY segment would have been far better off in the middle of the show. No need to start the show off with a big ‘FU’ to those who work in and love the world of television.

I’m totally w/ theTVaddict… I thought the opening was quite tasteless, along w/ some of the other jokes that were peppered throughout the telecast.

Didn’t think Seacrest was as bad as I thought he would be, but that may be because he sure didn’t spend much time on-air. W/ that said, I miss Conan’s antics from last year.

Haha I loved the Soprano’s part of that song. The creator of Family Guy Seth, has a really nice voice.

I didn’t really find it that tasteless. I thought it fit in well with the overall theme for the night which seemed to be…this is TV – let’s not take ourselves too seriously. There are other thins going on out there that should be taken seriously and poking fun at Cavemen, the ages of the Desperate Housewives or Scrubs was all done in jest.

I agree with you GMMR. I only got to watch the last hour or so. But I instantly noticed something different about this year’s Emmys. The round stage in the center, no ushering winners backstage, short acceptance speeches. It didn’t seem as stuffy and “sophisticated” as the Oscars.

It was light and fun. There wasn’t as much “award show banter.” Some of the jokes were actually funny! The fact that Steve Carell ran onstage and cheered when he was accepting the award for Ricky Gervais shows the change! Can you imagine Steve running up onto that huge stage of past Emmy’s. I certainly can’t. It felt more personal and realistic rather than a magical night. This may be why some people hated it, but I enjoyed it. The whole thing made me feel like these were just normal people who happen to act for a living. Award shows always seem to create the “Larger than Life” celebrity. And it was a refreshing change to see it differently.

Scrubs is such a better show than Family Guy. I’ve seen them bash Scrubs a couple of times on FG and American Dad.
But I think I heard that MacFarlane is friends with one of the guys who work on Scrubs.
Also, they used the same tune as their “FCC” song.
The Sopranos joke was good though. And at least the opening sketch didn’t star Seacrest.

I agree with you, GMMR. I loved it. Thank you for posting that link. I missed it on live TV. The FCC song was one of my favourites of Family Guy this past year, so I loved it. Seacrest I could do without. Did like the cut to Stewart and Colbert tho.
