Cast the New 90210 Dad…

One important member of the new 90210 family was missing when the full cast together for the first time at The CW Upfronts in NYC on Tuesday.  But no one knew he was missing, because no one knows who he is.

Rumor has it that the Executive Producers of the new 90210 spinoff on Fox are having a hard time finding the perfect guy to play Harry, the patriarch of the new first family of Beverly Hills.  It’s an important role as Harry will be the catalyst in bringing his family which includes wife Celia (Lori Loughlin), daughter Annie (Shenae Grimes) and son Dixon (yet to be cast) to Bev9er to take care of his aging, albeit gracefully aging mother, Tabitha (Jessica Walter).

So who is the man to replace the original BH dad, Jim Walsh (played by the great James Eckhouse)?  Well for one thing he’s got to have a certain look.  Come on, not just any guy can be paired up with the sexy Lori Loughlin.  So he’s got to be easy on the eyes but with a certain spark that let’s us know that despite his flaws his family will always come first.  Oh, and it just wouldn’t work if he were original Beverly Hills 90210 cast member so don’t even bother with Luke Perry or Jason Priestly.

Any suggestions to Fox?  Here are a few of mine to get you started…

  • John Stamos – Uncle Jesse and Aunt Becky reunited again.  Honestly, had Lori Loughlin not been cast I think Stamos would be perfect for this role.  I doubt that he would ever take it, but he would be great all the same.
  • Peter Gallagher – Ok so maybe he already played this role on THE O.C., but Gallagher could bring the charm and wisdom of Sandy Cohen up the coast to Beverly Hills easily.
  • Michael Vartan – Maybe he’s a bit too young, and maybe I just want to see Vartan back on my TV every week, but he would get my vote.
  • John Wesley Shipp – Dawson’s dad didn’t really die in that car crash.  It’s just TV.  He could totally pull off this part.  The return of Mitch Leery…done and done!

Who would YOU like to see as the new 90210 Dad?

I saw Rob Estes suggested on another website. Think he’s TOO masculine?

Well John’s on ER. I was thinking Peter too.

What about Treat Williams? He too has kind of played the role but, hey, I like him! Maybe he’s too old? (Sorry, Treat, it’s just that IMDB-ed you and you’re at least 10 years older than Lori so….)

Harry Hamlin? Damn, he’s the same age as Treat.

Who is someone that is Rob Lowe like but not Rob Lowe?

Scott Patterson! I hear he’ll be free next season since Aliens in America isn’t coming back…

Not sure if he is available, but Dylan Walsh aka Sean McNamara from Nip/Tuck. Yum!

Becky_J – I was thinking the exact same thing. Since Women’s Murder Club is getting the ax, Rob is available again. I think he’d look great with Lori, he’s the right age and maybe they could get him to take his shirt off. Really what’s too masculine for Beverly Hills?

    Scott Patterson would be awesome!

But I’ve got the perfect guy. Enrico Colantoni. He’s only 1 year older than Lori Laughlin and he’s got enough of the James Eckhouse look, only more handsome.

    What do you say Enrico?

John Stamos would be too hot. The man doesn’t age and is still freaking GORGEOUS so I don’t think he could be a TV dad.

I think David Sutcliffe from Gilmore Girls could be really good for the part. I know he’s going to be on Private Practice but I don’t think it’s for long. So I think he’d be great.

Just wanted to make a correction. You keep writing that it will be on Fox. The original aired on Fox, Version 2.0 will air on The CW. You were right in the beginning about the CW Upfronts, but then the rest of the article talks about Fox (“spinoff on Fox”, “suggestions to Fox”). Sorry to be nitpicky, just the way that I am.

Dylan Walsh still has Nip/Tuck and David Sutcliffe has I think 11 episodes on Private Practice so I don’t think he can easily do both shows.

What if OTH kills of Dan and has Paul Johansson can move on to 90210? Paul was on the original show, his character had previously go to West Beverly though we did not meet him until the college years and he has a past with our lovely Miss Kelly Taylor. Not that hard to change the name from Harry to John Sears. Or pretend he was never on the show in the first place, like so many shows have done before. He’s the same age as Lori.
