The first full day of a long weekend. Excuse me while I become a Woo girl for a moment…WOOO!! No. Work. Till. Tuesday!!

I’m heading out this afternoon to go to the Cape for the night with some friends, and tomorrow I have a few BBQs to attend. I know GMMR can be light on the weekends but unless there is breaking TV news (and I can’t imagine there will be), I’ll be signing off for the weekend. I’m leaving the laptop at home friends!

There’s plenty on TV to keep you interested.  If for some reason you are home today, or have an empty DVR just waiting to be filled, you should definitely check out the BAND OF BROTHERS marathon on The History Channel. If you’ve never seen this mini-series you will be floored by how epic and moving it is.  Brilliant storytelling and fantastic acting from a cast filled with familiar faces…including more than a few from our favorite TV shows.  If you’ve never seen it, you should definitely watch.

And the of course there’s always Mrs. Doubtfire.  So there.  Something for everyone.

Kris Allen on THE TONIGHT SHOW with Jay Leno

Your new AMERICAN IDOL Kris Allen hasn’t always shown himself to be overly verbose, but he certainly held his own against Jay Leno on The Tonight Show. Kris was adorable and charming, and really kept pace with Jay despite a little more ribbing than was necessary from the talk show host (he must have been an Adam fan).

And honestly, how cute was the engagement story? Adorable!

Yikes. Reality just sunk in. No, I don’t mean a good ‘ol reality show, I mean the reality that scripted TV is not as plentiful as it was just last week.  Thank goodness for the summer shows.  Cable is really doing their thing this time of year, and the network will be starting their scripted shows soon.  Just a little lull right now…and I’m not complaining.

But the BIG TV news of the night is the season finale of PARTY DOWN.  If you missed out on this hilarious new show from Starz, do yourself a favor and find a way to get caught up over the summer. Try On Demand, watch it online at Starz, Netflix – you won’t be disappointed.  And as a special treat, tonight’s season finale features an appearance by the one and only Kristen Bell.  PARTY DOWN has been a walk down memory lane for VM fans with cameos from stars of the show almost ever week, but this episode features Ms. Mars herself.  I can’t wait!!

Here’s a few things you might want to check out tonight.

Project Buffy: Mission Accomplished & Top 5 Tearjerkers

Update: After just posting that video of Tom Lenk, it got me thinking about BUFFY. So here’s a blast from the past – this was originally posted last March, but it’s not a bad thing to talk BUFFY once a year, right?

-March 2008-

Done and done. I set out on a mission to watch the entire series of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER and I finished…in an impressive amount of time if I do say so myself. Although I spent about four weeks casually watching the first season, I tackled the last 6 seasons of the show in just about a month, and actually watched season 4-7 in a whopping 18 days.

But now I get it. I get the whole BUFFY fandom and why millions of people are still obsessed with this show even years after it went off the air. It’s beyond brilliant. BUFFY is a masterful blend of drama, humor, tragedy, pop culture, sex, with just enough of the scary to ‘wig’ you out. I expected to like Buffy. I mean all these fans and critics couldn’t be wrong. But I don’t think I ever expected to become so obsessed about a show that I didn’t fully get to experience living with for seven years. And as some of my Buffy-loving friends (like Dan and Rae) can attest to, I became completed enthralled in all things Buffy. Simply put it’s a brilliant TV show, the likes of which I have never seen, and it’s fully deserving of all it worship.

I’ve been getting a ton of email (honestly I was floored by how many of you showed interest in ‘Project Buffy’) asking for my thoughts on the show. To be honest, the idea of trying to breakdown my reaction to seven years of TV was a bit daunting, so I thought I would try another approach. I’m going to be sharing some of my favorite moments of PROJECT BUFFY in various Top 5 lists. What those lists should be, I’m not sure, and I’m hoping to get your help. But to kick things off I thought perhaps I would start with the Top 5 moments that made me shed a tear.

Project Buffy – Top 5 ‘Someone Hand Me a Tissue Because I Can’t Stop Crying’ Moments
Here are some of the (many) moments (in no particular order) that I found myself emotionally drained while watching BUFFY. No way were there just five times I cried (more like five times an episode sometimes), but for some reason these moments just really stood out to me. Am I a big ‘ol baby or did these moments get to you too?

Tom Lenk Says “Gimme More”…Ok

Filed under Buffy the Vampire Slayer

As many of you know I was a late comer to the Whedonverse. It was just over a year ago that I popped in my very first episode of BUFFY. A month and a half later I had consumed all seven seasons, and I was better for it. If you were following “Project Buffy” at the time then you know that one of my favorite characters of the entire series was Andrew Wells played hilariously by Tom Lenk.

A wanna be evil mastermind, Andrew was ultimately too sweet inside to truly be bad. But god damn that character made me laugh. It should be no surprise that “Storyteller” was one of my favorite episodes.

(If you were following my updates at that time you might remembered that I may have plowed down some small children and a certain former showrunner when I spotted Tom Lenk in the audience after the BUFFY reunion. Sorry, but I had to meet him.)

Anyway, all this just to let you know that I found this hilarious video of Tom Lenk performing back in March with the Upright Cabaret. The boy can sang! Too bad he wasn’t around for “Once More with Feeling”.

Thanks to @tomlenk for the link!

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE Live Chat NOW!

In honor of tonight’s S5 premiere of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE I made the last minute decision to open up a chat room. If you’re online and watching, come join!

Cat Deeley Talks SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE

Cat Deeley - So You Think You Can Dance

Cat Deeley - So You Think You Can Dance

The beautiful and talented Cat Deeley is by far my favorite host on television. Her sweet and loving nature paired with her biting humor is a big reason why fans tune in each week.  To the contestants, she’s more than someone who just emcees the show; she’s a the mother/sister/wannabe girlfriend that helps the contestants stay positive despite the physical and emotional strains of the show.

I recently had the opportunity to participate in a press call where Cat answered reporters questions on the new season, what it’s like to be the host and how she is personally involved in her always stunning wardrobe.

Tune in to see Cat as Season 5 of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE kicks off tonight at 8/7c on Fox.  We’ll be convering the show in depth this summer on GMMR so I hope you’ll join us!

Does that kind of surprise you, how diverse the dancers are in style and type and so forth?

Cat Deely: Actually, that’s the very nature of the show, and that’s what we like to celebrate. We like to celebrate people from all different races, religions, backgrounds, colors, creeds. You know, that’s the whole idea of the show, is that anybody from any background at all with any training can come on the show, and as long as they’ve got the talent and passion and they’re prepared to work hard, and also show their personality, of course, they are more than welcome to be on the show. We’re looking for stars. We’re not necessarily looking for a certain body type or a certain style or anything like that. We’re looking for America’s favorite dancer, which doesn’t necessarily mean the best. I’m certainly not asking people to fit in certain boxes. We’re not asking people to fit in certain molds. We’re kind of all-encompassing. We want people who the American public are going to identify with and are going to pick up the phone and vote for, and that’s what’s so special about our show.

What dance style took you by surprise when you saw it on the show?

C. Deeley You know what got me the very, very first time I saw it was Crumping. Lil C came on to our show, who’s a choreographer, and did Crumping for the first time, and it was absolutely incredible. It’s almost like fighting and sparring, and there’s so much kind of pent-up aggression to it, but it’s in the form of dance, which I just think is incredible, you know, that real energy.

So, since then, we’ve had other people on the show perform the dance by themselves, and I remember from last season, it was Twitch and Kherington. They did an amazing routine, and it was so different. I mean, Kherington was kind of a contemporary dancer, and normally it’s all about lines and elegance and flowing, and this was hard-hitting and tough and street, and it’s great to see people take on different styles like that and really own them. I think that’s what’s so interesting about our show, you know, we do take a street dancer or a breaker and we go what you do is absolutely amazing, your specialty is incredible, but now we’re going to put you in a sparkly shirt and some tight, black pants, and you’re going to have to perform a salsa.

I mean, it’s interesting to watch, because some really step up to the plate and really go for it and kind of slick back their hair. I talk to them at the end of it, and they go, “I would never in a million years have thought I could do a waltz or a salsa or a Paso Doble, but I bloody enjoyed it,” you know? So, that’s the really interesting developments in the show.

Adam Lambert & Kris Allen: “We are the Champions” with Queen

May 21, 2009 by

Hands down my favorite performance of the entire night was the Kris Allen and Adam Lambert duet of “We are the Champions” featuring Queen. It was a great moment for both the guys. Their mutual respect for each other came through in such an awesome way. Both guys sounded absolutely incredible. But I have to say, what Adam Lambert did on that stage in that moment was perhaps the single best vocal I have ever heard in the history of AMERICAN IDOL.

As always, please thank Rickey.org for allowing all fans of Idol to experience these moments again.
