FRINGE: ‘The Firefly’

FRINGE is back!

Is it a little weird I’m relieved this wasn’t the best episode the series has ever done? Don’t get me wrong — it was an absolutely solid hour. There were great performances from the regular suspects and Christopher Lloyd was a fantastic guest star as the former rock star Roscoe Joyce. But “The Firefly” seemed like it had a different urgency than most of season three. Instead of focusing on the drama of the alt-universe, we went back old-school and learned a little more about the Observers. And that was a nice change.

How badly does FRINGE star Jasika Nicole want viewers to tune into her series in its new Friday night time slot? Well, she’s willing to drop some pretty freakin’ major spoilers to entice people to tune in.

She’s all about embracing the new time period, declaring that “Friday is the new Thursday,” but she’s well aware the show might need to convince viewers of that fact.

So what is Nicole dishing on that unfinished freaky love triangle, universes collapsing, another flashback and much more?

COMMUNITY: ‘Asian Population Studies’

January 21, 2011 by

COMMUNITY is back, you guys! We’ve got Abed’s ticks, Pierce’s senility, Jeff’s sexy sarcasm, and Troy’s amazing fake crying, all back on our TV screens every Thursday night. Thanksgiving may have been months ago, but there’s no moratorium about how thankful I am to have COMMUNITY back in my life.

The episode opened with the gang — is it blasphemy of some sort if I start referring to them as “The Scoobies,” à la BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER? Because a large part of me wants to — greeting each other after spending winter break apart. Over the break there have been a couple of changes within our beloved study group: Jeff discovered a new muscle in his back to exercise (we’ll thank him come swimsuit season); Shirley started dating her formerly-philandering ex-husband; Annie, using her “I love butterflies” voice, plays coy, describing the community service she did over the break picking up condoms and fingers off the highway. The culprit of her high spirits is, of course, of the male persuasion.

But this man is not just anyone of the male persuasion—he is none other than Jeff Winger’s arch nemesis, the pottery-gifted doctor who caused Jeff’s downfall back in season one’s “Beginner Pottery.” Dr. Rich. Or as I like to call him, Ghosting Guy.

BONES: ‘The Body in the Bag’

BONES pals, it has been too long since we’ve talked! I hope you are all having a great 2011 so far. This episode started out with a bang. Or a boom. Or a…gurgle?

Well, it really started out with a confession. Basically, there’s a lot to talk about, so let’s get to it!

THE CASE:

Here’s a confession from me: I LOVED this case. It was interesting, and I did not suspect the murderer until just before Brennan figured it out. I literally typed out, “Heck, yeah BONES! (the show and the person)” when that happened. It’s been awhile since I’ve had such an “aha” moment like that. Awesome! The case begins with a young man sneaking into the bedroom/bathroom of his socialite girlfriend, Paisley. He hears the shower running, and when he strips to join her, he is surprised to see a severely decomposing corpse. But we aren’t surprised, because we’re BONES fans!

BONES: Hart Hanson on Episode Shuffling and Teases Episode 10

January 20, 2011 by

So I believe a few of you are excited that BONES returns with a brand new episode tonight?

Yeah, that’s what I thought.

There is some really fun stuff coming up in 2011: the start of the sniper arc, some progress with a certain love triangle and much more.

When I chatted with BONES creator Hart Hanson at the recent Fox All-Star party, he talked about the complications of changing up the episode order, Booth being a good man and teased a little bit about the latest bit of drama between Brennan-Booth-Hannah…
