LEVERAGE Series Finale: Some Thoughts on ‘The Long Goodbye Job’

December 26, 2012 by

Confession: I was dreading watching the LEVERAGE series finale.

It’s not that I didn’t want to see it…it’s just that this show has been so much fun over the years and the knowledge that this was it — even if the late cancellation had led to them treating this as the series finale versus a season finale — made it a little hard to turn the final episode on.

But when I did, I was so happy with what I saw. It was everything I felt a LEVERAGE finale should have been, and if we had to say goodbye, I’m glad it was this way.

Of course, I had a few more thoughts about what went down…

  • While I figured there was no way Hardison, Parker, and Eliot would be dead (despite the creative storytelling Nate was saying), that image of their clasped hands as they “died” was just brutally heartbreaking.
  • Timothy Hutton (Nate) was fantastic in the interrogation scenes, especially when he was faking his devastation over losing his team.
  • Could there have been a LEVERAGE series finale without Sterling? I think not. His banter/push-pull with Nate has always been such an enjoyable staple of the show.
  • Speaking of Sterling and Nate, Sterling finally paid off that favor!
  • Well, we had about a minute and a half of thinking Lara was Sophie’s real name. I wonder if we’ll ever know what it really was.
  • How great were the parallels to the pilot? Between “age of the geek” to Parker giving Nate’s famous “we give them leverage” speech, it was such a lovely way to wrap things up.
  • I would watch the heck out of LEVERAGE: INTERNATIONAL.
  • It’s felt like all season has been leading to Nate’s exit (and I figured if he left, Sophie would go with him), and while I’m certainly sad the show is over, it felt fitting to end on this note. (That being said…I so wouldn’t object to some sort of TV movie.)

What did you think of LEVERAGE’s series finale?

I feel the same as you, that this was a perfect way to go out. I just wish we’d had another season or two. I was not ready to let the crew go just yet. I will certainly miss this quirky, fun adventure of a show.

And a big “YES PLEASE,” to Leverage: International!

I thought I heard them say season finale, then once everyone was shot……(3 of the 5) I thought “Oh no…..this is a series finale.” And I too, was loaded with dread. I really enjoyed this show, but to be honest, the last two seasons, less so.

So farewell ‘Leverage,’ been a fun ride.
