Marisa’s Top 14 Episodes of 2014

December 24, 2014 by

For my top episodes of the year, I did something different this year: I didn’t let myself choose anything from my top shows of 2014. There are certainly shows there that could (and maybe should) have installments listed here, but considering how much television I watch, I wanted to expand the field of shows versus just going over (again) why I loved the top shows.

The following episodes aren’t ranked (they’re listed alphabetically), but I did note which one would have been number one if I had gone that route…

ENLISTED: 'Alive Day'

ENLISTED was a beautiful show, and while I absolutely lament its short life, in many ways, "Alive Day" was a perfect ending to the series: due to a lack of funds, a ball that was planned (and was going to honor Cody) was canceled, and the Rear D soldiers had to scramble to put together on their own, while Pete and his brothers celebrated the anniversary of Pete nearly dying in Afghanistan. It sounds morbid, but it ended up being sentimental and life-affirming. (Which basically sums up so much of ENLISTED in general, too.) Pete's post-war PTSD -- a topic that few shows, let alone a network comedy would dare touch -- kicked in after he saw footage of troops deployed overseas, and his brothers (and the rest of the Rear D troops) found him by the beach. They reiterated their family status (both literally and figuratively), and it was beautiful. At the end of the day, these guys loved and supported each other when the times got rough, no matter what. Pete's growth over the series to acknowledge his troubles post-coming home and the importance of what the soldiers were doing in Rear D came full circle in probably the best way possible. (And if you didn't cry while watching the episode, please tell me your magical secret.)

And have you seen Sarah and Kelly’s lists, too? Check out Sarah’s top shows and top episodes, as well as Kelly’s top shows and top episodes.
