FIRE COUNTRY season 2 finale preview

“I Do” – Gabriela prepares to walk down the aisle on her wedding day as Bode receives some surprising news, on the second season finale of FIRE COUNTRY, Friday, May 17 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ Pictured: Max Thieriot as Bode Leone. FIRE COUNTRY’s Bode (Max Thieriot) got a big shock in the penultimate hour of season 2: Thanks to his heroism, he’s getting an early release from his prison sentence.

“I don’t know if Bode’s ever been super comfortable getting what he wants,” FIRE COUNTRY showrunner Tia Napolitano tells Give Me My Remote. “Like, I imagine he’s a very awkward person to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to [because] the shine is on him. I think he’s in disbelief that it’s finally over.”

And while he’s reeling, there is one undeniable bright side: “Probably what he enjoys about it the most is the gift to his parents that they can hang up some of their worry, which has loomed so large in his life and his guilt after Riley,” she continues. “They’re surely going to sleep easier at night. So I think he can kind of take the win, mostly based on that.”

The Leone family will have enough problems on their plate in the finale (airing Friday, May 17), as Manny (Kevin Alejandro) is MIA, last seen walking down a deserted road, and wanted by the authorities for his attack on Luke (Michael Trucco).

“I think we’re wondering where our road leads to?” Napolitano teases. “Where’s [Manny] going? Is he coming back? Is he going to do something dangerous? Is he going to turn himself in? Is Manny the person that we all know and believe him to be, which is a guy who does the right thing and believes in the system and working the program? I think it’s all up in the air.”

Complicating matters for all is the fact that Manny’s daughter, Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila), is set to tie the knot very soon. (Oh, yeah, and Gabriela and her off-on ex Bode just shared a kiss, too.

“There’s a lot of questions leading up to that wedding,” Napolitano acknowledges. “She looks beautiful—I love a wedding and love a wedding dress. The choosing of the dress was a very fun thing for me to do. And it’s [a question of] is Manny going to be there? Is Bode going to be there? Is Bode gonna break up that wedding? Is Gabriella gonna break up that wedding? Is she gonna go through with it? I think it’s just loaded with questions, which is the funnest way to go into a finale: How’s it going to end?”

One thing is for sure: A familiar face is returning as W. Tré Davis reprises his role of Freddy in the season 2 finale—and has a lovely reunion with Bode.

“There’s a lot of wish fulfillment in the finale—and complications, too,” Napolitano says. “But Freddy, we know that justice was delayed, justice was served, and he was out. I really wanted to see that he got his happy ending. That he got his food truck, that he and Cookie are good, that the baby’s good, he’s got those beautiful dreads—it just felt like joy walking onto the screen…It felt like an infusion of joy to this finale that was about a wedding and romance and happiness.”

FIRE COUNTRY, Fridays, 9/8c, CBS
