Marisa’s Top 14 Episodes of 2014

December 24, 2014 by

For my top episodes of the year, I did something different this year: I didn’t let myself choose anything from my top shows of 2014. There are certainly shows there that could (and maybe should) have installments listed here, but considering how much television I watch, I wanted to expand the field of shows versus just going over (again) why I loved the top shows.

The following episodes aren’t ranked (they’re listed alphabetically), but I did note which one would have been number one if I had gone that route…

SLEEPY HOLLOW: 'Bad Blood'

These episodes are never ranked, but if I had to pick my top hour of the year, I'd make a strong, strong case for "Bad Blood."
SLEEPY HOLLOW has always worked best when the entire team is there, fighting against their common enemies, and season 1 established the "ultimate collection of underdogs"…but, unfortunately for them, they discovered in the final moments of the season 1 finale that they had a traitor in the group: Henry, was actually Jeremy, Ichabod and Katrina's presumed-dead son. Oh, and he was War, a horseman of the apocalypse.
The final 5 minutes of the episode -- as Henry laid out to his captured parents how wholly he had deceived his father (and the audience), while Abbie was in purgatory, getting back the pieces of her memory which filled in the blanks for her -- is my favorite thing the show has done so far, as the very real danger Abbie was in was juxtaposed with how fantastically the writers had pulled a delicious long-con on everyone. (At this point, I've watched the end sequence probably 10 times between covering events, etc., and I still get chills every time I see it. John Noble (Henry), Tom Mison (Ichabod), Nicole Beharie (Abbie), and Katia Winter (Katrina) are all sofreaking good.) It set the bar high for what SLEEPY HOLLOW can do, and I look forward to the next time the show can throw me so completely.

And have you seen Sarah and Kelly’s lists, too? Check out Sarah’s top shows and top episodes, as well as Kelly’s top shows and top episodes.
